Definitely NOT Tofurkey. It was so terrible that even I couldn't eat it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/12/2011 17:23

Ooh those Christmas pies look gorgeous and I suppose I could leave out the mushrooms for fussy dds. Thank you.

Thanks also for the stuffing ideas - I love chestnuts so anything with those in sounds good to me!

SingingSands · 05/12/2011 19:16

We are going to attempt to make bombay potato and spinach filo pie, as seen here

thisisyesterday · 05/12/2011 20:21

That bombay potato pie looks good too but for some reason, much as I love curry, I don't fancy the flavour of spices for Christmas Day. I rather fancy Simon Rimmer though, so will need to ponder the recipe some more!

that bombay potato pie DOES look delicious, i might have to try that too, but not for christmas

I did a mushroom & chestnut wellington last year. Haven't decided what to do yet this year, but if I can't think of anything else I will be doing it again!

Beanbagz · 06/12/2011 15:02

SingingSands I cooked something pretty similar here for a friend's 40th birthday bash. It went down well with everyone from my 6 year upwards.

I would love to eat Indian food on Christmas Day but we're invited to my sister's and she's a bit more traditional. Maybe next year!

momnipotent · 06/12/2011 15:19

I am th only veggie in the house so I make myself a nut roast and then just eat the usual accompaniments, which are roasted veg, mash, yorkshire puds, etc. This is the nut roast I make and it is wonderful, makes plenty and freezes well.

vegweb.com/index.php?topic=7406.0

I'm definitely looking up some of the alternatives now though!

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 06/12/2011 16:02

DH (also veggie) has been great doing the lion's share of Christmas dinner over the last few years, and it has been a big help especially when DCs were little.
I'm feeling like maybe it's time for me to have another go at a homemade nut roast though and get some Yorkies on, also some interesting gravy, stuffing, and bread sauce as DH has gone a bit overboard in his love of packet mixes ! Bless him Smile - Does a good tray of roasties and parsnips though !

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 06/12/2011 16:05

Actually, now I think about it, isn't it the lionesses who do most of the hunting anyway ? And possibly not a suitable metaphor for a veggie thread anyhow ? Xmas Smile

NoHunIntended · 06/12/2011 17:26

Just collecting vegans - there's a dedicated thread here - all welcome!

We're trying the Vegusto roast for Christmas, with a Redwoods Cheatin' Turkey too, as the Vegusto roast is a little on the small side.

earlyriser · 06/12/2011 19:54

Wow Nohun, how did i not know about that site? may have to pay a visit but will have to be well in the new year having just spent £90 at Goodness Direct and well over a hundred at veggie pets Shock.

HoHoHoFunIntended · 06/12/2011 20:03

It's new, earlyriser, I think it's only been up for a couple of months. I ordered their newby bumper pack, it is very expensive, but very very good. The moo-free cheese is phenomenal! They sometimes do offers, so worth keeping an eye open.

earlyriser · 06/12/2011 20:06

It's always good to find something a bit different. Must admit, even though i hated pretty much all meat when growing up, i'm a big big fan now of fake meats (Fry's Polony i'm talking about you in particular!)
