In theory she should be really easy to buy for as loves clothes, smellies, make up, and all girly things, but she has loads of all of the above so would welcome any ideas please.

Thanks!

MIL passed away several years ago so it's step MIL now. Met her about 4 years ago, still don't feel like we know her at all well. She's getting this and this just because she really likes that colour, I never know what to get her. She's also getting a bag with a design on drawn by DD1 which school were selling to raise funds.

On past occasions we've got her a subscription to Good Houskeeping, a set of biographies and a pretty magnetic shopping list pad thing. Thankfully they are not very extravagant with gift-giving so we take that as a signal not to be towards them either, otherwise I'd be really stuck.

Some good ideas on this thread btw, will note down for future years :)

Snapfish picture calendar with pics of the DCs (she lives far-ish away and doesn't see them much), framed 'proper' pic of us all, notelets with a pic on the front that DD1 painted. Not that she knows how to write a thank-you card though it seems.

Do you sense a theme??! Xmas Grin

TheGoddessBlossom · 03/12/2011 17:52

Hmm thanks alot guys.

So magazine subscription sounds favourite, cinema voucher difficult as she is a single nan.

DH doesn't have to buy for my mum, none of us do as she is in a home with dementia, and won't know it's christmas.

A photobook from Snapfish full of pics of the DC from the past 2 years.

AChickenCalledKorma · 03/12/2011 19:33

PMSL at Nimbus 2000. Have just got it!

Beauregard · 03/12/2011 19:35

Handbag and large dose of biting tongue Grin

Jcee · 03/12/2011 19:49

A multi aperture photo frame with one of the 'holes' filled with a pic of DD and a voucher for her to print out some pics to fill the rest up

thereistheball · 03/12/2011 20:00

Soap and a soap dish just so there is something wrapped under the tree. We are also buying them some paint as they are redoing their living room.

KatyMac · 03/12/2011 20:02

Christmas oven gloves that I won in a raffle

newmum953 · 03/12/2011 20:03

Mmm, not sure what to get yet. Wanted to get her flipflops as she gets tired feet from running around after her grandchildren but can't as it's winter. Might be a voucher for a dinner in town with her husband or a beauty treatment voucher. The last present I gave her was a hit - tickets to see Rod Stewart (my DH was her date). I have also made her a 2012 calendar with pictures of my DD as a stocking stuffer - we don't live in the same country so think this will be a hit.

deemented · 03/12/2011 20:04

I bought her a She-Wee last year.

The bitch loved it.

This year she's having a project bag with matching needle case.

ginmakesitallok · 03/12/2011 20:05

MIL is getting a padded jacket and some nice socks from the kids, my Mum's getting some earrings, a scarf and some smellies from the kids.

titan · 03/12/2011 20:07

this as her main present. Plus a few little things and an album of photos of DS. I've never seen her wear any of the really lovely clothes/accessories we've bought in the past though!

OrmIrian · 03/12/2011 20:08

A solar-powered water feature for her little courtyard. She likes the sound of water and envies us our ponds.

ithaka · 03/12/2011 20:12

A shite scarf because I loathe her.

MarksPA · 03/12/2011 21:53

Lovely DMIL not materialistic and has everything she needs and loads of jewellery. Her love in life (with exception of her DH!) are all her grandchildren, so my list is:

A throw and simple flower-in-a-vase that matches her bedroom colour theme.
A (snapfish) calendar with the kids photo's on each month.
A (snapfish) photo book of DD2 first 6 months (we had a some time in SCBU, so this will be especially precious (all is fine now Xmas Smile)). All DDs & DSDs are inc in the photo book, but baby is the focus.
The new (to be released) single from the Military Wives Choir (we're a military family)
A novelty sign says something like 'Nana's Kitchen - where hugs and cakes are made with love' etc. Sloppy but she'll like it!
Her fav chocs (orange cremes).
Posh set of hand wash and hand cream that matches her bathroom colour theme.

My mum is v practical and she's asked for jammies, so I've bought her a couple of nice ones. But I've got her some of her fav sweets too as extra surprise (quality Turkish Delight and peanut brittle) plus the Snapfish calendar with the grandkids in it.

MarksPA · 03/12/2011 22:01

Ooh that sounds like a lot. Not boasting, it's all fairly cheap. 'Posh' hand stuff bargain at TKMaxx. And throw and flower were Argo's specials!Xmas Smile

Stinkyfeet · 03/12/2011 22:06

Gardening vouchers and a bottle of champagne.

SantaffetaClaus · 03/12/2011 22:09

Stinky - please can I be your MIL? Xmas Envy
