Do you give selection boxes? Or is it only grannies?

We were allowed one bar a day over Christmas-out of the selection stocking schroeder. Then back to Thursdays again. The thing is although it sounds pretty grim now, I couldn't wait for my bar of chocolate on a Thursday when Dad got in from work-it was a real treat. Mmmm Walnut Whips........

I like to tell the DSs that story and tell them how lucky they are to have chocolate more than once a week!

yellowflowers · 18/11/2011 19:09

They are three for price of one in tesco at moment working out at £1 each

schnitzelvoncrumm · 18/11/2011 19:11

I just don't get why anyone would want that many chocolate bars?? They seem to have 4 or 5 different bars of chocolate in. Why Confused??

yellowflowers · 18/11/2011 19:11

Oops sorry someone said that.

I love revels and topics

I always had those stocking-with-the-white-net ones when I was small that PP mentioned. I am pretty sure at one stage they had spangles in them. I loved spangles.

Ruth1234 · 18/11/2011 19:58

I saw yesterday that you can now get selection boxes for toddlers - Organix have bought one out for Christmas...

MoChan · 18/11/2011 19:59

I am scandalised by that buy one get two offer. No wonder there's an obesity epidemic, etc, etc, [pious self denial emoticon]

I love selection boxes ,I always buy them for my kids even though they are all grown up

but I am a Granny Grin

CrotchFlakes · 18/11/2011 20:05

I bought 6 in Tesco earlier as it was far cheaper than buying individual bars.

I miss the white net ones though [wistful]
I was going to give them to my godchildren but now I'm thinking the adults might appreciate them more.

MoChan · 18/11/2011 20:06

I have three too. You make a good point.

MoChan · 18/11/2011 20:07

That last was for Maryz.

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2011 20:07

I think I always had the Mars selection stocking, that possibly had the Spangles in. Yum.

If I am giving vouchers to older children now, I also get a selection box so they have a little something to open.

Got a treat stocking for SIL's horse yesterday. Grin

MoChan · 18/11/2011 20:45

Oh yes. Our dogs used to get the selection stockings too. with chews and stuff in.

SilverMachine · 18/11/2011 20:51

My mum still buys me one every year at xmas Grin

yellowflowers · 18/11/2011 21:06

Is is v sad I love the idea of an organix selection box for children?

notso · 18/11/2011 21:20

I buy them out of defiance because my Dad used to throw ours away!
We were allowed to choose one to keep and the rest were chucked.

This is the same Dad who I caught practically force feeding eleven month old DS2 chocolate buttons.

Thanks for Tesco tip whoever it was will stock up tomorrow.

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2011 21:24

Ooh notso that's harsh. I thought my Dad was mean with the one bar a day then weekly afterwards.

We used to have the dates with the bendy little fork and those awful orange and lemon gritty jelly slices though!

notso · 18/11/2011 21:31

I know Sparkling scarred I am.
Did me no good either I am fat and greedy now Grin

Those orange and lemon things remind me of my Great Gran, and Newborough Friut jellies!

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2011 21:38

You can still get those fruit jellies-all runny in the middle.

MoChan · 18/11/2011 21:44

I JUST BOUGHT some of those orange and lemon slices. I'm not sure why. I think it was because I haven't seen them for years and I was overcome by nostalgia for Christmas past.

Newberry Fruits. My late grandmother is the ONLY person I have ever known to eat/have them in the house.

wigglesrock · 18/11/2011 21:50

But, but, but they're the best bit of Christmas Grin - selection boxes not those mingy fruit jellies.

My elder dds (6 and 4) get so excited about getting a selection box and they don't even like the sweets in them (they're not caramel fans Shock).

My granny (85) still buys 4/5 and send them over to her 60 year old son in the US - bloody Irish mothers Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2011 21:50

I saw the 'Eat Me' dates today and nearly got some but nobody would eat them!! Dad used to have lots of different nuts and sit there with the nutcrackers all evening, ending up with a pile of shells on his knee!

DC would love those orange and lemon gritty slices actually. Grin

tvfriend · 18/11/2011 21:51

God- I didn't know you could get Galaxy selection boxes- must get myself to Tesco.
