shit shit shit
he has a friend round to play after school, thought they would be mischevious and raid the cupboard in mummy and daddys room. found all the christmas presents.... :(
DS has never questioned that santa is real...how the hell do i explain this....
I could tell by the look on his face that he was gobsmacked that his much wanted for lego set that he has asked santa for, is in mummys cupboard.
I don't want to ruin the magic yet :(

My five year old would believe mmelindors story but definitely not a year 3 kid !!

MmeLindor. · 15/11/2011 16:46

YY to Tobermory's plan. You bought it for XY child (do you have a cousin or someone he doesn't see often)

Maybe mix it with my story, and suggest that he writes a letter to Santa to ask for the same one, and btw did I tell you about the accident..

Distract him with the pic of Rudolf more here if you want them.

CJ
My DD is 9yo, will be 10 in April and either she doesn't know or she isn't letting on. We will go to Santa's farm again this year, maybe she will let it slip.

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 15/11/2011 16:48

Tobermory 5 n half weeks to go Grin

I would just go with the i bought it for such and such, and oh did you want that to, better get writing that list to santa to make sure then type thing!!

bronze · 15/11/2011 16:55

You know you're going to go to all this effort to cover it up and hes going to announce ' you know I know the truth about santa don't you mum?'

fretfree · 15/11/2011 17:02

Santa's not real?????????????? Shock

cjbartlett · 15/11/2011 17:06

It doesn't ruin Xmas once they know you know
You can still make it magical for them

spendthrift · 15/11/2011 17:09

DS (age 6)saw the presents when I thought he was asleep in family room at my sister's. We told him the truth - and he has never forgiven me! But I would go down the "big presents/what you really really want are now from Mummy and Daddy and others from Santa",

MackerelOfFact · 15/11/2011 17:25

Tell him that Santa plants toys in people's houses to see how good the children there are. If the toys are left alone, he knows they're being good, and they will get the toys for Christmas. If they're naughty and rummage in cupboards, they won't get anything they find.

spongebunnyfatpants · 15/11/2011 17:25

My friend told her children that they were empty boxes and that Santa fills them up when they are under the tree.

ImpYCelyn · 15/11/2011 17:41

Tell him it's a birthday present for someone. Then "post" it while he's at school later in the week.

He'll just think Father C got him a similar one for Christmas.

I think that will be more believable and less obvious on Christmas Day than if you say it's a Xmas present for someone else.

Tobermory · 15/11/2011 19:03

lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast, 5 and a half weeks?
5 and a half...

Nooooo!

Are you sure?

Shock
Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 15/11/2011 19:36

Unfortunately Tobermory is it most definitely 5 and a half weeks!!!! I checked my comp calendar for certainty!! Grin

SoupDragon · 15/11/2011 19:40

Don't make it complicated. Just say they are from you to him because you knew he wanted them. You say he hasn't written to Santa yet so that won't be a problem.

JackiePaper · 15/11/2011 19:54

Thankyou everyone so much :)
After his friend had gone I took him up to my room and said you know you shouldnt have gone looking in mummy's cupboard and that is where i keep the birthday presents. I got the hello kitty game that he saw out and told him i had got it for him to give to his sister for christmas and he must keep it a big secret. He looked at the lego and said 'who's that for?' I said oh that, it's for Joshua's (a friend who lives miles away who we dont see very often) birthday next week, do you think he'll like it? he said oh yes he'll love it, I want one of them for christmas. So i said 'oh really? lets go and write your letter to santa now then Grin
he bought it totally, i got a birthday card i had lying about and got him to write a birthday card to Joshua, and he wrote - 'you are so lucky, i want the same present as you for my christmas present'

Thanks mumsnet xx

piratecat · 16/11/2011 12:49

nice one Jackie. perfect!

My dd is 9 and believes, long may she do so!!

pramsgalore · 16/11/2011 12:55

yes, i would also tell him they are someone elses pesents and they are being collected tomorrow and then move them into the loft quick, on christmas day if he brings it up, just say santa knew how much he wanted it and so got it, i saw a bargain when out with ds and it was the last one, i shamelessly bought it and got ds to carry it home, with him saying i would like one of these mummy will you add it to my list please Blush i had told him it was for sister ds.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 16/11/2011 14:37

Oh thank goodness! Grin He'll never be any the wiser!
