shit shit shit
he has a friend round to play after school, thought they would be mischevious and raid the cupboard in mummy and daddys room. found all the christmas presents.... :(
DS has never questioned that santa is real...how the hell do i explain this....
I could tell by the look on his face that he was gobsmacked that his much wanted for lego set that he has asked santa for, is in mummys cupboard.
I don't want to ruin the magic yet :(

When I was little, we had some presents that were signed from mum and dad, and then extra ones that just had our names on in special swirly writing that had come from Santa - we never questioned it, go with that.

BalloonSlayer · 15/11/2011 16:02

I'd wait till he asked. Then say "well Santa Claus's sleigh is only so big you know, he has to leave some things in special hiding places and pick them up on Christmas Eve as he goes round."

If he bought that, well and good.

If not, sorry to sound unsympathetic but he has only ruined the magic for himself by going through your cupboard. And he is 7, not 4. Lots of children know the truth by the age of 7. And it's hardly a trauma: "I was 7 when I found out that my Mum had spent a fortune buying me loads of things I really wanted to make me happy, instead than a mystical being supplying them by magic, and I've NEVER got over it! Poor me!" Grin

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 15/11/2011 16:03

I'd hide and deny, hide and deny Grin. Make him think he was seeing things. Parents have the power.

I was once given a bear during advent. It arrived magically one evening. To this day, DMum denies it was her. To this day, I wonder...

You need to be convincing. When he tells you what he saw, or asks you, then deny. take him upstairs and show him the empty cupboard.

However, if he doesn't say anything, then you need to raise it (otherwise it might be asked when he opens pressies and gets what he saw). I would go with, it's for the other child, but then give it as a present from Mummy and Daddy, not santa.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 15/11/2011 16:06

My sister had this happen and she brushed it all off and said the presents were for X who lives nearby..they believed her too!

MmeLindor. · 15/11/2011 16:11

Santa asked me to get them cause they are too heavy and bulky for him to get down the chimney, and he has a sore arm. Do you know that he hurt himself when he was training the reindeer team last week? Yes, he did. It was Dancer's fault, he pulled in the opposite direction to Rudolf and Santa went arse over tit flying out of the sleigh.

He was soooo cross cause he doesn't have time to be ill this close to Xmas. He sent all the mummies and daddies an email to ask them to help him out this year until his arm is better.

Poor old Rudolf, he damaged an antler in the accident and has had to go to bed. Do you want to see a picture of him in the hospital?

Here is Rudolf. Santa thinks that with a couple of days in bed he should be back to normal in no time.

Why don't we write a nice letter to Santa, we could send a Get Well Soon card...

MmeLindor. · 15/11/2011 16:11

Whoops. It was JackiePaper who was the OP, not Kinky. Sorry.

We quite often had things off our Santa list bought while we were with our parents. They all went in the top of their wardrobe to be sent on to Santa. Usually as Santa had asked for their help finding something. Said presents were then hidden in the loft completely out of reach days later.

This covered both them buying things when we were out with them and any unintentional reveals when we were rooting

We honestly weren't any the wiser and believed every word.

Tobermory · 15/11/2011 16:18

MmeLindor, i love your tale and excellent, and very authentic looking, poorly Rudolf picture!

bronze · 15/11/2011 16:22

Like Kinky I would move them and deny deny deny

JackiePaper · 15/11/2011 16:23

thanks all :)
i really dont know what to say to him now - thing is he hasnt actually written the letter to santa yet, just knows what he is going to ask for. so i cant really go with the santa asked mummy to get it line, cos santa doesnt know he wants it yet...
think it might have to be that it's a present for X's little boy, and then we will give it to him as his present from us...
or... grandad bought it for you but asked mummy to take it back to the shop because we know you were going to ask santa for it?
which is more believeable?

Actually Ive changed my mind just because I want to use that Rudolph picture. I'm even tmepted to show my children their present so I can use that excuse. Isn't it a good thing I haven't bought them yet Grin

spiderlight · 15/11/2011 16:26

So does Santa give all the presents in your house, then? He only brings one big present and a stocking here - everything else is from us/grandma etc.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 15/11/2011 16:26

You need to do PNP. ( personal north pole)

You really, really need to

bridgeandbow · 15/11/2011 16:28

In our house Santa brings the stockings - that's it. Otherwise it gets too complicated and the person who actually forked out (Gran, Aunties) get no credit for it!

MmeLindor. · 15/11/2011 16:28

Tobermory
It is from the very excellent Santa's Farm near Geneva. My DC stood for ages transfixed by Rudolf.

JackiePaper · 15/11/2011 16:28

santa brings most of the presents. One present for each of them from mummy and daddy. I think im gonna go with the story that its for someone else...

JackiePaper · 15/11/2011 16:30

MmeLindor thankyou :) that is a fantastic story and photo!

just not sure i can use it as he hasnt actually written to santa yet, so a bit unbelieveable that santa asked me to buy it. :(

Tobermory · 15/11/2011 16:32

Its real?! I had imagined you had paused, mid narrative, to google 'poorly rudolf' to find an appropriate picture.
Even more impressive then!!
Love it Grin

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 15/11/2011 16:36

MmLindor* that is blinking inspired! Tha you for shaing your pic of sick Rudolph! That could save many a child's innocence!

Tobermory · 15/11/2011 16:38

Jackie - id go with the 'bought it for a friend' line but dont make too big a deal of it. And reinforce with, "oh is that the one you wanted too? Ooh, lets go and write a letter"
There are 8 (ish weekes to christmas) im sure between now and then he will forget - wont he? My eldest is 4, so have these terrors to come!

chipmonkey · 15/11/2011 16:38

Am very impressed with MmeLindor's genius!

ALittleHouselessMatch · 15/11/2011 16:41

Oh, Santa knows even before you write your list . He has to get a head start on the shopping, otherwise it would be far too much to get in december. The list just confirms what he already suspects.

cjbartlett · 15/11/2011 16:43

Is my ds (7) the only one who already knows?!
They've had a long chat about it in the school playground
Most of his year 3 friends know too
That's what happens with year 6 siblings I guess
