I always intend to but end up not bothering. I was contemplating buying some tissue paper this year so I can do a half arsed job of it

i do wrap most of it. always in different paper to what presents from me are wrapped in

CleanHankie · 14/11/2011 23:23

Must be wrapped, else it's just like upending a Tesco/Sainsbury/Waitrose carrier bag full of shopping on Christmas morning.

Main presents are wrapped early, and I make sure it's wrapped with the exact amount of paper. Then the bits you've cut off, so you don't have excess paper that you have to fold up to make it look nice, go into a box that is known as the "stocking paper" box. Little bits of paper are perfect size for wrapping the smaller stocking pressies.

Although last year I did go in for the "separate paper so it looks like it's from Santa" idea. Considering a roll of brown paper for this years.

Am I the only one who loves wrapping? Spread out on the lounge floor surrounded by scissors, paper, presents, sharp knife, small bag for the rubbish/price labels and Christmas music up high. Glass of mulled wine to one side optional.

dearprudence · 14/11/2011 23:31

Yes, everything is wrapped in special Father Christmas paper that isn't used for any other presents, then any spare is thrown away.

Stocking presents aren't wrapped particularly carefully though.

Generally yes, in a different colour tissue paper for each child so that I can tell which is which in the dark (and should the DCs see the stash of wrapped presents I can always unwrap before stocking-stuffing)

akaemmafrost · 14/11/2011 23:42

Only in different coloured tissue paper. I did this the year before last because I ran out of proper wrapping paper and they looked so nice and it was so much easier that I will do it every year now.

I do not wrap selection boxes it used to piss me right off when I was kid to seize that exciting wrapped up present only to find a box of twix, mars and marathon. And these days they put skittles in some of them too!! That really winds me up, skittles are NOT christmas sweets, end of.

trulyscrumptious43 · 14/11/2011 23:44

Yes. With the cheapest thinnest paper possible and different from all other pressies.

veryconfusedatthemoment · 14/11/2011 23:46

Yes (but different paper of course!)

Himalaya · 14/11/2011 23:49

Yes, but only in coloured tissue/crepe paper or plain foil, tied with curling ribbon because father Xmas doesn't buy wrapping paper on the high St but has his elves make it..and it's easier to wrap small knobbly things that way

stealthsquiggle · 14/11/2011 23:56

Jacaqueen what is this "other presents from FC" concept Confused - round here FC's responsibility starts and ends with stocking contents and the crappy wrapping of same.

trickydickie · 15/11/2011 00:04

yes even wih four kids. I curse my way though it, usually on christmas eve. It is hard enough buying the stocking rubbish, but I am a martyr.

Though this year Santa might be a bit busy for it. Oh and Santa also leaves stocking presents on hall floor and stairs, that have fallen out of the stocking, on the way up the stairs. Santa stupidly accidentally did this when only one child lived in my house. That one child remembered this the whole of the next year, so Santa has to do it every year now.

elfiro · 15/11/2011 00:04

When I was a kid, nothing from Santa was wrapped (the family presents under the tree were). I thought that was normal, but DH now can't understand why I don't need therapy for the trauma that must have caused.

So now I wrap everything for my dcs, even the stocking, just in case. Wink

DumSpiroSpero · 15/11/2011 00:10

Yes, although not sweets and certain very tiny things get left as they are.

ohnoshedittant · 15/11/2011 01:16

Yes stocking presents must absolutely, definitely be wrapped (in different, special paper)!

trumpton · 15/11/2011 06:59

I always wrap stocking presents, badly and with paper with FC on and not used for any other presents, topped off with a torch and a special letter written in green ink from the great man mentioning anything nice that has happened thro the year..
Stockings are only opened by torch light chez trumpton. The girls generally open one thing then bring the stockings onto our bed so we can be amazed by what FC has bought them. ( DH is ALWAYS suprised Grin)

Did I mention DDs are 30 and 26?

DS has a shoe box of bits as he has lost his belief in FC.Sad He is 31.

SilveryMoon · 15/11/2011 07:02

I was wondering about this.
This is the first year my ds's will be getting a stocking at the end of their beds. They are now 4 and nearly 3 yrs.
Think I will wrap in the hope it keeps them in their room and happy for an extra 10 mins before they come to get us up.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/11/2011 07:15

Yes.

Went to Ikea yesterday and they have wrapping paper with actual Swedish Santa claus and Elves on!!!

It's fab!!!

trumpton · 15/11/2011 07:48

silveryMoon if your DC are leaving their empty stockings on their beds then may I suggest duplicate stockings ready stuffed and hidden away. Et Voila!!!! a swift swop rather than the sneak in to get empty stocking and the hissy fit as you try to cram everything in the stockings whilst very drunk a bit tired.

DumSpiroSpero · 15/11/2011 07:51

Hankie I love wrapping too - but I don't do it too far in advance as have to have Christmas tree up and fairy lights on!

SilveryMoon · 15/11/2011 11:17

Hahaha, good idea trumpton thanks for the tip :-)

GwendolineMaryLacey · 15/11/2011 16:09

Absolutely, no fun just getting a sock full of unwrapped tat. Wrapped tat is far more exciting Wink

I've just spent 3 fucking hours wrapping all my presents. Baby due any time around Christmas so I have to get in early. I hate wrapping.

OryxCrake · 15/11/2011 16:23

Stocking presents here are wrapped (very roughly!) in cheap paper that's different to all the labelled presents from family and friends under the tree. Even though my children are way, way to old to believe...

CleanHankie · 15/11/2011 21:09

DumSpiroSpero Tree and Lights go without saying Grin Got to be done!

Jacaqueen · 15/11/2011 21:37

Oh FFS!

I see I may have to change my lazy ways and wrap the stocking tat.

In this house FC brings stocking tat and main present along with a few other bits and bobs like book or dvd.
