Can anyone recommend some nice christmassy scented candles for my home? I am on a tight budget this year so not to pricey.

Yankee candles? We live near an outlet shopping centre and today I bought a big jar candle called cinnamon and sugar which I think smells christmassy, but what I did see and put on my Christmas list was a gift set of 9 small yankee candles in a book effect case called my favourite things and the fragrances were, raindrops on roses, blue satin sashes, bright copper kettles etc

oreocrumbs · 14/11/2011 17:39

I should add both were around £10

Jaxx12 · 14/11/2011 17:41

Oreo which shop was this from? Am a massive Yankee fan!

BertieBotts · 14/11/2011 17:43

The ones they have in Sainsbury's are nice. DP is a candle fiend and every time he goes to get petrol he comes back with about 6 Hmm They do smell nice though! I think they are the Glade ones.

The febreze ones seem to have a nice strong smell.

ENormaSnob · 14/11/2011 17:46

I like the glade ones.

Vanilla and honey I use all the time.

Spiced apple and a cinnamony one i use at Christmas.

Home bargains have some nice ones in at the mo.

oreocrumbs · 14/11/2011 17:47

It it the hallmark outlet shop, we are in the North East but I should think they will have them dotted about all over the country!

PrettyPirate · 14/11/2011 17:54

We have Squires garden centre here (used to be Shoots garden centre) and they have Yankee christmas candle twin set for £20. 'Happy Christmas' and 'Christmas Cupcake' fragrances.

LordOfTheFlies · 14/11/2011 18:03

Yankee every time.
I've tried others and they just don't compare.-some have made me feel ill (usually soy candles)

Christmas Cookie or Christmas Cupcake -lovely buttery vanilla
Sparkling Cinnamon (clove and cinnamon) or Cinnamon Stick
Red Apple Wreath,Spiced MacIntosh Apple, Spiced Apple Cider

I'm not so keen on the Christmas Eve/Home for the Holidays/Merry Christmas ones.
And I don't like pine.

Some of the discontinued ones would be cheaper. And if you burn them right (trim the wick and burn 3-4 hours the first time to ensure a flat wax pool. After that you can burn 1-2 hours .Stops it tunnelling)

BertieBotts · 14/11/2011 18:32

I love yankee candles but they are just so expensive. Good tip about burning though Lord :)

PrezolaAli · 14/11/2011 18:38

Debenhams do loads of nice ones actually and prices are really good. Plus they've got 40% off and free delivery at the moment. Check out this lot...www.prezola.com/c/home-garden/home-accessories-16/candles-diffusers-20?retailer=Debenhams&sorting=default&perpage=100

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 14/11/2011 20:36

Another vote for Glade. Smell nice and not to pricey!

peanutmakinalistncheckinitwice · 16/11/2011 15:54

oreo ive just bought the "christmas memories" Yankee sampler book, it was called "the 12 days of christmas" its got 12 christmas scented samplers and is supposed to be a gift for a friend, but I want it Grin hope santa remembers me!

peanutmakinalistncheckinitwice · 16/11/2011 16:00

Air wick touch of luxury, mulled wine and cinnamon apple is lovely Littlepurple they also change colour so look festive too, they were on offer in asda the other day

oldraver · 16/11/2011 17:22

I tested the Sainsburys Christmas Spice this week and it is very nice. B/F and DS chose it as I'm not usually keen on the spiced ones

Hopefully · 16/11/2011 17:34

When comparing candles remember to check burn time - cheap ones are usually a complete false economy. We buy the Lily Flame ones which are about £7.50 if you order online but burn for about 35-40 hours.

Ja9 · 16/11/2011 19:13

I am a big yankee fan.....

But i am also a HUGE fan of the glade ones. A recent discovery for me and i am so impressed with them. I havent explored their christmas ones yet but their honey and chocolate one is fab fab fab.

RonnieBirtles · 16/11/2011 20:36

I've got the Lily Flame Christmas Spice one, the White Company Winter one and the Yankee Christmas selection. All good.

Taffeta · 16/11/2011 20:39

Ikea

Jaxx12 · 16/11/2011 20:44

Just ordered set of 10 Christmas Yankee tarts from eBay. Work out at 89p each which as good as it gets round here anyway. Grin

oreocrumbs · 16/11/2011 21:07

oooh peanut I like the sound of that - will keep my eyes peeled for them. At this rate I won't need the heating on I can huddle round my inferno of candles! I bought the yankee 'favourite things' set that I mentioned earlier in the thred. They reduced it further - to £6.72 for 9 small yankee candles!! I bought 2 sets Blush I have an addiction.

peanutmakinalistncheckinitwice · 17/11/2011 08:11

me too oreo do you want to attend a Candle Addicts Anonymous session with me? Grin
im hoping someone gets me the Memories sampler book for my birthday at beginning of dec, ive certainly dropped enough hints!

SugarAndSpiceMistletoeAndWine · 17/11/2011 08:15

Partylite! Love them - some are expensive but gorgeous smells and really last. However, my friend is not selling these anymore (think Avon style) and I need to get my fix somewhere else now! I know you can buy them on ebay too.

catwithflowers · 17/11/2011 08:25

ENormaSnob those are the two I use!! The last one is sooo Christmassy and is my daughter's favourite Smile. Wilkos had them 2 for price of 1 last week but offer may have finished.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 17/11/2011 08:28

Pop into TK Maxx - they do Park's, Kenneth Turner, PEcksnifs etc for a fraction of the price and the smells are amazing. They also do Yankee Candles in there.

I have a Cinammon and Tangerine for Christmas and it is heaven in a jar.

ENormaSnob · 17/11/2011 09:23

Oooh thanks cat.

Sugar, do you really rate the partylite ones? I found them dreadful tbh. Really overpriced and no scent.
