I would like to do this but I'm in a bit of a quandry.

What about your parents/grandparents?

What about if your siblings/godparents/children's godparents don't have children of their own?

What about if you have elderley relatives who don't have children or have grown up children and they buy something for your DC?

If they buy for your kids, you buy them a small gift back - from your kids, not from you.

Why Jackstini? All that does is add another piece of crap to their house. Make something small, yes. But not pointless crap that still has to be chosen and paid for. As far as I can see, expecting presents is just basic greed. A thank you note should always be given to a present giver - that's all that is necessary.

DH and his family are a bit more restricted and he buys for his dad and his kids .

My side of the family go crazy and if can take hours to open the gifts ! I buy for

2 stepsons
3 parents
3 siblings and partners
4 nieces and nephews
DH
A few family friends
1 set of grandparents .

We love exchanging gifts and don't really celebrate birthdays .

Just tradition Katherine. Adults all used to buy for each other, when the children came the gift moved down a generation (apart from immediate family)so it didn't get out of hand.
Nice that you think we buy a bit of crap though Hmm
We actually have secret santa people in the family who hold wish lists so people get something they would like (not everything on the list so it is still a surprise)
Also we know them, so know what they would like.
Simplest rule is - if you don't know someone well enough to know what they would like as a gift, do you know them well enough to bother buying one..?

What do you do then Katharine?
