What are the best presents you have bought dh in past?

Thought if we all share ours we can copy each other's ideas.

Ones my dh has liked most of all:

A recipe book stand for the kitchen (kind of for me too)
A meat tenderiser (possibly the most manly bit of cooking equipment I have seen)
An engraved hip flask (this was a special present - more expensive than usual)
A nice keying - surprised by how much he liked this

I know it is boring but I really like to buy dh clothes, aftershave and body care stuff. He really appreciates an electronic present and I do get him these occasionally but feel like I am really making an effort if I get him clothes, etc., as he really never cares for himself this way and I have to do the mothering bit for him at least once a year. (He never normally gets that off me!)

DeepPurple · 27/10/2011 23:44

I bought DH a playstation 3 the year they came out. He actually cried a bit Grin

Flubba · 28/10/2011 06:42

:o at your DH deeppurple ~ I think I would have too. My PS2 is stuffed away in the back of a cupboard gathering dust :(

Best present for my DH was a record player a few years ago. May get another one for him this year as the last one's just given up the ghost from over-use.

Magneto · 28/10/2011 06:58

My dh still plays on his ps2 Hmm

I once got dh a train set as he'd always wanted one. I got a "multipack" type so you already had a basic full circuit plus some extra bits...then I spent the next 3 ears buying extra track for each birthday/christmas.

jaggythistle · 28/10/2011 07:11

my DH would love a train set. he was never allowed one as a child, so i think he'll 'buy DS one' sometime!

i am shit at presents for him, so can't contribute much.

i once chipped in with family to get him an 'experience' thing where he got to try flying a plane and helicopter. this was for a big birthday and he loved it.

SilveryMoon · 28/10/2011 07:14

I'm really rubbish at buying other people presents. I have absolutely no idea what to get dp.
Looking for inspiration.

HardKnockLife · 28/10/2011 07:20

Most proberbly the first christmas we were togethar i got him a PS2 and a few years ago he got the PS3, so i would say that.

Not sure this year im thinking a nice shirt and some aftershave as i usually get him a new game for the comp but he got this gor his birthday and im bored of buying these now.

Also we are going away for a belated honeymoon to edinburgh in January so will not be spending loads.

LoveInAColdGrave · 28/10/2011 07:23

I got him a really expensive, proper grown up watch for his 30th. He loves it. Sadly, I will never be able to afford anything similar again so that is likely to be the pinnacle of his present getting!

He also loved silver cufflinks with my thumbprints as a wedding present. And one of those decanters with a round base so no one can hog the port. He also liked an adopted penguin at the zoo.

He also seems very enthused by the baby I am growing for him at the moment!

LoveInAColdGrave · 28/10/2011 07:24

Oh, and I bought him a smart (Paul Smith) gym bag, to replace the tatty rucksack he was using. It was a bit of a gamble but gets daily use and he really likes it. So based on that, a posh version of something everyday seems a good bet.

CaveMum · 28/10/2011 07:26

A couple of years ago, after carrying out some family history research, I managed to track down 2 out of print books about the WW2 battle in which DH's grandfather Reg was killed. I also got in touch with a war historian who had researched the RAF Squadron Reg was attached to and he was able to provide Reg's flight records.
I think it meant a lot to DH that I'd gone to the effort, even though the presents weren't worth very much in monetary terms.

Oh yes, I also bought him the Complete James Bond DVD set 2 years ago. He liked that a lot!

DH loves whisky. I got him a book and a selection of samples that are featured in the book to taste. He lived it.

bagelmonkey · 28/10/2011 07:27

Loved. Not lived.

TheRealMrsHannigan · 28/10/2011 08:36

DH's favourite present from me over the last few years was his iPod, he was so chuffed with it Grin. He also loved the home cinema system I got him last year.

I always try and get him some clothes too as he rarely buys them for himself. I am getting a pair of boots I know he likes this year, a tour of the emirates stadium and touchscreen gloves as I know his iPhone drives him mad in winter when he has to wear gloves and take them off to use it.

groovejet · 28/10/2011 09:04

bagelmonkey - am bookmarking that for FIL he loves whisky and is difficult to buy for that will make a change from the usual bottle of whisky we get him!

Last year apart from the homemade gift I gave him,was a really nice wallet was far more money than he would spend on himself for something like that so like LoveInAColdgrave said an expensive version of something everyday.

Shoshe · 28/10/2011 12:16

DH is getting his Christmas Present on Tuesday, Grin for the 16 years we have been together he has always wanted a dog, but as a very busy childminder, and his job involving being away a lot, it just wasn't possible.

I gave up Childminding last April, but we moved into a small flat, which we couldnt have animals in.

On Tuesday we move again, into a new house Grin and mad as I am on moving day, I am going to pick up 12 week old Tia, a brindle staffie Grin on Wednesday we are rehoming a 11month old white and black Staffie Ruby.

So from having no dogs, we are going to two! (Ruby was a late addition, a friend cant keep her and DH just fell in love with her, after we had already decided on Tia)

He is so excited and cant wait. Grin

ninedragons · 28/10/2011 12:22

I agree with the PP who said a posh version of something everyday.

I bought DH two eye-wateringly expensive Japanese knives. He's a very keen cook but had been sawing away with Ikea cheapies. He was over the moon with them.

Carpediem2007 · 28/10/2011 23:40

Gadgets: ipod touch the year they first came out, kindle, XBox, cuff links, posh headphones, fancy flat wallet.
He can't remember any of gthem when I ask him now anyway!

Bamaluz · 28/10/2011 23:59

Oh Shoshe, I've been wondering if your DH got his dog when you finished childminding. So pleased for you both that you're getting two.

A silver keyring with toddler and new babys fingerprints on, with Daddy inscribed.

This year I am working on a wrapped positive pregnancy test.

MelanieWiggles · 29/10/2011 09:31

AshaBoo - can I ask where you got that key ring ? I would love one of those.

AshaBoo · 29/10/2011 15:03

It was from ebay - there are various sellers who will make them from scratch. The babys finger made more of a dent as they do not have prints until a bit older (wish I had known that, but it is cute). I also got two little charms for myself.

overmydeadbody · 29/10/2011 15:04

a dremel

ChooChooWowWow · 29/10/2011 16:29

DH would say it was a couple of years ago when I got him two VIP tickets for the Grand Prix. He got to go into an enclosure after the race to meet the winner (Louis Hamilton). That was a one off though far to expensive to repeat.
This year I am getting him a firework experience. He will spend a day learning to make them and setting up a professional display.
He is really hard to buy for. He works really hard to allow me to be a SAHM so I like to get him presents that mean he needs to take a break.
