And what are you actually buying them?! Mine has asked for Lego, Playmobil, a pair of High heels(!) for dressing up in, and books. I'm really lacking inspiration re her "big" present. Any ideas?

I-pad
I-phone
I-pod
laptop

what she is actually getting is an MP3, some harry potter stuff, some clothes and some monster high stuff

voodoomunkee · 15/10/2011 22:16

Mp3 player, roller skates, bike, just dance 3 and a digital camera. to be fair she is 11 in november and is likely to get some as birthday gifts. No toys at all!

WinterIsComing · 15/10/2011 22:28

Mine is eleven and wants one of these

They didn't have them when I was young so I'm having trouble tracking it down but in the meantime she loves art so have bought her canvases and an oil-paint starter kit because she hasn't worked with oils before.

WinterIsComing · 15/10/2011 22:28

oh, and our family present for all four of us is a Kinect, so she'll be getting the dance game.

rhondajean · 15/10/2011 23:42

Winter I dont know if this is any help but my friend told me tonight shes managed to buy a life size cutout of Justin Beiber for her daughter, they might do him too?

twolittledarlings · 15/10/2011 23:43

She has asked for a laptop. Was thinking of an Ipad but hubby says that a laptop is better for homework so will be getting one of those for her to share with her 8 yr old sister.

She also asked for a friendship bracelet kit, a lamp, a clock, a memo board, calendar, winter boots, some blank cards/envelopes.

Have got them both a lamp, clock, memo board (will be making as cannot find the correct colour so already have got the fabric, the heart shaped cork board, the wadding and ribbon - just need the time to make it).

Also as they love Harry Potter, have got the lego castle and Knightbus sets. (already have about 20 other Harry sets but will Ebay 10 sets as bored of them). Have got also 3 friendship bracelet sets, the Electronic Bookmark, Mystyle Charm Bracelet kit, Mystyle Girly Card kit, the craft making caddy with loads of crafty things in, Mr Gum book set, Harry Potter Lego Book, Some Moshi monster stuff (just got the membership as an early present), and other bits and pieces.

Don't consider the clock, lamp and boots as presents. Just essentials and trying to keep down on plastic toys. (Other than lego as can always ebay them afterwards.) They have so much already as will keep them down to mainly crafty stuff other than the laptop.

As both have their birthdays as Christmas, one on 19th and the other on the 24th, I always splash out and double the presents.

Also want to get the Wordsearch game and the Articulate for Kids one too.

LordOfTheFlies · 15/10/2011 23:46

Sylvanian Family

Guinea-pigs.

(Guinea-pigs are not a Christmas present BTW -animal presents are a no-no.
We are hopefully picking up 2 from a rescue next week. I don't think they'd agree to be wrapped for the next 7 weeks!) [hgrin]

twolittledarlings · 15/10/2011 23:52

Forgot to mention that she asked for Taylor Swift CDs so got 2 of them and the ATM Moneybox that was on offer at Argos.

Also order loads and loads of wooden Hearts and Star shapes in all different sizes from EBay that I will paint in coordinating colours to match their rooms so that I can put them up all over their bookcased, chests of drawers, wardrobes, doors and some will be in garlands with their names on them.

Only need to get 3-4 more bits and the laptop and they are all done.

WinterIsComing · 15/10/2011 23:58

I bought DD the ATM moneybox but the company didn't deliver it when they said they would then ran out of stock so I got the more expensive one and a delivery upgrade.

I'd forgotten all about that. I think it'll be a hit.

Notsurehow · 16/10/2011 00:07

Vonny your daughter sounds wonderfully like a 10yr old should be! (In my old-fart view) Sounds like she likes "make-believe play so maybe some really fab dressing up outfits with a big kids make-up set to go with the high heels?
Do children expect a "big" present at Xmas? Or are they happy with other stuff they will enjoy? DD (6) will not be getting a "big" present this year but a collection of smaller thingd I hope she will enjoy ....

Earlybird · 16/10/2011 04:33

DD wants the Sylvanian Family caravan and the 'family car' that pulls/attaches to it.

vonnyh · 16/10/2011 12:12

Thanks for all the replies. some fab ideas there, particularly the ATM thingy, and the dressing up outfiswith make up. I know she'd love those!

Also getting dd some origami kits with additional paper, and a pair of 'fake' Uggs (can't bring myself to pay £££ for the real things for a fast-growing child).

Earlybird · 22/10/2011 13:33

Bumping thread as I'm hoping to hear other inspired ideas....

VivaLeBeaver · 22/10/2011 13:46

ipad
laptop
ipod

Hmm

She's getting a second hand but fairly new ipod. I lost mine and after 6 months caved in and got a new one and them promptly found my old one. So she's getting the new one, but its not the most recent model. Have also got her a docking station to go with it.

She also wants some Michael Moporgo books, some card making bits and some stationary.

VivaLeBeaver · 22/10/2011 13:47

Careful with the fake Uggs Earlybird, I saw a programme a while ago about how bad they are for your ankles. Especially for kids/teens who are still developing. They have no ankle support and there were all these shots of teens walking about with their ankles folding inwards. Can cause permenent problems.

Earlybird · 22/10/2011 13:53

Thanks for the fake Uggs tip vivalabeaver.

Part of why I am considering fakes Uggs is the cost of real ones (I object to that sort of money on a fast-growing child), but the other part is that dd won't end up wearing them very much. She won't wear them to school during the week, and will spend a significant part of the weekend in trainers. They will be more of a fashion accessory that will be worn sparingly - so not much time walking 'round in them, and won't be worn to walk distances as we live in a place where cars are mandatory.

Hopefully her ankles will be OK!

Jbck · 22/10/2011 17:58

I got Kaspar the Titanic Cat (something like that) by M Morpurgo in Poundland in hardback. Guess how much Grin

DD1 has asked for an I-pod touch and we're seriously considering it. I've already bought Moxie Girlz Artitude car, Connect 4, some little bits and bobs, new socks slippers type stuff and that will be about it if we go for the I-Pod. She got a phone for her birthday in September, and has been responibly responsible so far so we'll see how it goes till November and decide.

twolittledarlings · 22/10/2011 22:50

Book people has a set of Michael Morpurgo books going four books for £4.99 if anyones interested.

WitchesAreComing · 22/10/2011 23:57

DD has just started High School so I'm going to get her a Pauls' Boutique bag charm. Not going to spend £70 on an actual PB bag only to have it lost or stolen thank-you-very-much when I wouldn't dream of spending that on a bag for myself.

Ilikedrinkingblood · 23/10/2011 00:40

Please don't buy fake Uggs if they are being sold as such. Buy Bearpaw, Rocketdog, Emu, other branded or a British shops's own, as long as they are sheepskin or synthetic, but not actual fakes as they can be made using very cruel methods (think small animals being skinned alive in China).

ChippingInToThePumpkinLantern · 23/10/2011 00:51

Friends DD has asked for a new phone as her old one is crap Hmm , a new laptop/notepad as her old one is too big & chunky Hmm and books. She's certainly not a spoilt child [phone & laptops were hand me downs] but it just amazed me that at (just) 9 she a) had both and b) needed swankier ones

I'm old.
Clearly.

Helenagrace · 23/10/2011 00:54

Mine wanted an iPhone and an iPad.

She is having a flip video camera and some roller-skates.

She's just sold her dolls house so she's buying herself an mp3 player. I might buy her some speakers for it.

startail · 23/10/2011 01:05

Lap top for Xmas and a phone for her 11th birthday.
Lap top purely because her stupid Sony one is slowly dying and out of guarantee.
Otherwise I have requests for DVDs and a Wii game, which may well come from grandparents and her aunt.
The 13 year old just needs money to feed her book habit ( paper and iBooks) and she wanted the odd DVD.

Earlybird · 23/10/2011 14:15

I had hoped to steer clear of a technology dominated Christmas for a few more years, so have resisted the idea of i-touch, i-pad, i-pod, laptop, etc. as main pressies under the tree.

But based on the posts here, technology is what most 10 year olds are asking for and what most will be getting.

I may have to reconsider, but in the meantime - what will you be getting for them/what do they want that isn't electronic or technology based?
