Last year I started the tradition of new pj's at Christmas....was an idea I got from MNers, seems a lot of you do this.
So...where can I buy lovely pj's from? Last year's were BabyGap....any ideas?

Thank you

CDM What about some fancy 'pop' and a nice cup each to drink it out of (depending on the age of your DC - could be a fancy plastic wine cup or a nice glass with their name on it or something?)

Flisspaps · 27/08/2011 19:17

DD had £4 Primark pyjamas for last Christmas, she's still wearing them now - she was 9mo at Christmas! They were a bit big then but fit brilliantly now Grin so lots of wear for the money.

dearprudence · 27/08/2011 19:21

Brilliant idea shinyshoes. I'm definitely nicking that one this year.

BornToFolk · 27/08/2011 19:26

Another vote for Primark! I got DS the fleecy £4 ones last year and they wore very well. They weren't Christmassy print, just dark blue with rockets on. Cute though!
I've asked him what kind of PJs he wants Father Christmas to bring and he said Gingerbread Man ones. No idea what he means by that but I thought I'd leave him a Gingerbread Man with the PJs...and maybe some hot chocolate too, I'm going to end up with a hamper too, aren't I? Grin

HotSummerNights · 27/08/2011 19:32

I'm nicking your idea aswell shinyshoes.

Sounds like the perfect christmas eve.

DoubleDegreeStudent · 27/08/2011 19:36

CDM how old are your DC? My sister and I (wait for it) sometimes make Butterbeer from Harry Potter [ultra nerd emoticon]. We add rum, so I can't really remember how we make it, but I think it's something like heated milk with some sugar dissolved in, or a few marshmallows (depends what we have lying around). Would they just drink warm milk? Or is it hot things they don't like?

Nice mugs and add warm apple juice?

Tinkerisdead · 31/08/2011 12:37

Asda last year had PJ's with candy canes, gingerbread men etc on them. I got some for DD red with gingerbread men. May be worth a look there nearer xmas. They were a fiver. Even DH got some flannel type bottoms with candy canes on them!

CDMforever · 31/08/2011 20:43

Thanx fliss and doubledegreestudent for luverly ideas.
They LURVE pop and know they are only allowed it on special occasions.

Sooooo... the hamper will have xmas pjs, pop or butterbear (minus the rum tho that would get them off to sleep pronto! Thats just reminded me of a friend who gives her DCs each a spoonful of medised on xmas eve.Hmm!), like the idea of gingerbread too.

And a nice new xmas mug.

Roll on xmas!!!

I got my DD xmas pjs from M and S last year. They were BEAUTIFUL with a gingerbread house type theme. However, the bottoms, once washed, were a really strange shape, like a hipster and not cosy at all.

Asda here I come!

I bought my ds's some lovely ones from Boots last year - used the BOGOF deal and points from my advantage card.

We have a Hamper on Christmas Eve too, varies slightly each year, but this year the following is planned :)

PJ's
Slippers/Bed socks
Bag of Reindeer Food
Kiddie Christmas DVD
Book, (night before Christmas
New mug with Snowman soup
Homemade food goodies, Gingerbread, coconut ice, truffles, honeycomb,
Christmas Eve activity (colouring books, snowflakes to make etc)
Special Bubble Bath
Santa?s silver plate & goblet
Cookie Mix to bake for Santa
New Blankets for Kids

All tucked up in a big wicker basket and left on the doorstep when daddy goes to work (funny that Grin ) We also write a letter from the elves to the DC, cant wait to see their faces this year :)

wellilikemythinking · 04/09/2011 15:28

I love the hamper idea, will shamelessly pinch that idea for after the panto! We get our xmas eve pj's from Primark or BHS both lovely and both last.

MrsSawyer · 06/09/2011 10:44

I did the hamper thing too last year for dS who was 4, it contained:

A carton of ribena (as he detests drinking hot things)
Some chocolate penguins
Handy manny xmas dvd
Some special bubble bath (in the shape of a xmas tree)
Iced mince pies (for me and DH)
Reindeer food
2 x sachets of hot chocolate and 2 x xmas mugs (from poundland for me and DH)

I managed to open the front door while he and DH were watching TV, put the hamper on the doorstep, ring the doorbell, close the door and run back into the kitchen, saying "DS, could you get the door?", he nearly wet himself with excitement. I also made up a poem, and when we read it to him, he nearly cried he was so excited! I bloody love xmas, me!

Also bought a plate for 50p from a charity shop with lots of santas and reindeers on it, so that was used for the carrots, milk and mince pie for santa and the reindeers, i cant wait, hoping its as magical this year as we will also have a 4 month old DS2!

We have been doing Shoe Box Appeal for underprivileged kids for years and then I had the bright idea of doing a Shoe Box for the DDs .It's dead easy really, get a big shoe box and cover it with really nice paper and then put in all sorts of little goodies from Poundland or whatever.
It doesn't have to be expensive stuff and you can put in stuff they really need like hair bobbles and Pritt Stick and sweets and gum.

CDMforever · 07/09/2011 22:49

Mrs Sawyer, your idea of ringing the doorbell, then dashing in swiftly for DCs to open, is inspired!!!!

Really can't wait to do it!!

Have been gently persuading DCs to acquire the taste of hot choc, its going well. They each had a few slurps today without throwing up Grin

anniepanniepears · 07/09/2011 22:54

asda do nice fleece pj nearer christmas

attheendoftheday · 08/09/2011 11:36

Spiced apple juice is lovely and festive, a good alternative to hot chocolate IMO. A good non-alcoholic alternative to mulled wine at xmas parties too. There's a recipe here.

winefairy · 08/09/2011 14:48

Love, love, love the hamper idea but have one question. Where do you all get your empty hampers from?

dearprudence · 11/09/2011 09:53

You could use a vegetable box from the supermarket and cover it with cheap Christmas paper.

ditavonteesed · 11/09/2011 18:36

I get them a bath bomb, then they have a bath and while they are in the bath the elves always drop us all a lovely new pair of pj's, then we go and sprinkle the reindeer food we made earlier on the patio and snuggle up to watch some xmas telly. mine really like the all in ones in winter, probably next as they do cotton ones and dd gets excema in fleece stuff. shamee though as primarni ones are uch a bargain.

oldraver · 12/09/2011 10:25

Yes I second Matalan. DS chose his own last year and his favourites were the snowmen Matalan ones. He also had some Nice Boots ones he wore Boxing Day. His Dad thought the whole 'new pyjama' thing odd especially as he had new ones for two nights (not intentional) and was muttering about it for ages

sleepevader · 14/09/2011 05:16

Hi I'm looking to get organised and buy Christmas Pjs. Has anyone seen them in primark/matalan yet? It's a bit of a trek so don't want a wasted journey!

Machin11 · 14/09/2011 12:23

Darn it, I love Christmas sooooo much and want to steal hamper for a tradition, but no children yet (although it's work in progress) and DSS is now 13 so slightly to old to start that tradition at this age (he thinks I'm loopy enough about Christmas without adding to it) and he spends Xmas eve at his mums!! I will be getting him some new warm PJs ready for the cold months anyway but not sure he will want red reindeer patterned ones ungrateful so and so Wink

AuntieMaggie · 14/09/2011 18:36

i wanna do the hamper thing too but just me and DP - think he might like PJs though!

where do you get your wicker baskets/hampers?

inchoccyheaven · 16/09/2011 09:37

I got my sons some lovely red tarton pjs from Asda yesterday for their xmas eve hamper. £7 a pair which I thought was reasonable.
