What would you get yourself for Christmas? In a strop as DH has announced we are not doing presents for each other after I have got him something.

It's somewhat reasonable of him - we are trying to keep expenditure to a minimum (since he bought an ipad last month, a-hem), so he has said no present for him, and I've had to say the same for me, and we'll get a smaller present for DD than originally planned. Fine, except I then got into a terrible mood because I wouldn't have anything to unwrap under the tree .

I have already got him a few things and have decided to get myself something small so I don't feel miserable on the day. The question is, what?

If he bought an ipad rather than DDs (and your ) presents then buy a new husband ! And take back the things you have already bought him, cheeky sod !

nickeldonkeycarrymary · 13/12/2010 16:08

have you told him you've already bought him something?

if not, then do and say it's not fair that christmas is just for the children.

tell him it doesn't have to be big, but you really really want a present.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 13/12/2010 16:09

You are not getting a Christmas present because he bought himself an iPad? Stuff that in the Christmas turkey.
Tell him its too late, you have bought him a Christmas present and you expect to find something under the tree for you on Christmas morning.
Why roll over and accept this sort of selfish behaviour?

ConnorTraceptive · 13/12/2010 16:12

So he gets an i pad and you get nothing and your daughter gets a smaller gift too? Gosh what a catch he sounds.

I would be taking back his gifts and putting the money towards yourself or your dd

Poledra · 13/12/2010 16:14

So, he bought himself an iPad. OK, he doesn't need a Christmas present.

Do you use this iPad, or it is exclusively his? I'm guessing it's his, so that means you should get a Christmas present. As should your DD.

We've done this before - DH needed (yes, really needed) a new laptop, so he got it early but the DDs and I still got something for Christmas!

SantasENormaSnob · 13/12/2010 16:18

I would be seriously pissed off at this.

thereisthesnowball · 13/12/2010 16:22

He bought the ipad because he needs it for work for a project for work, but only for a month or two - when he is finished it will come home and be mine, apparently, but til then it's in his office.

But I do agree I need a present on the day, which is why I am getting myself one. Any ideas please? (NB He doesn't have anything exciting from me - some underwear, a book - and I was thinking of getting him a Private Eye subscription, which would also be for me of course Smile)

Also, DD is only 3 and is getting tons of stuff from DGPs and cousins etc, not to mention Father Christmas (already bought), and we were planning to get her a really big present, so I don't feel at all bad about downsizing it to something more modest (say £50 not £100).

Poledra · 13/12/2010 16:25

Well then, what do you like? Smellies, chocolate, cosmetics, books, DVDs, a better bottle of wine that you would usually buy?

FrostyAndSlippery · 13/12/2010 16:33

I would be pissed off too.

thereisthesnowball · 13/12/2010 16:35

I would love some fabulously warm slippers - slipper socks maybe. Or wrist warmers. Or some v luxurious chutney (tricky as we are in France). Already have India Knight's book tucked away for later, or I'd ask for that. Any other really indulgent reads?

Nobody has any ideas? Are you not getting yourselves any little extra treats this season?

SantasMooningArse · 13/12/2010 17:53

Yes, what mum2 said.

If I were geting myself something it'd probably be nice PJ's or books, but that's becuase DH is getting me the fake fur jacket (cheap one, Asda or something- just want something fun to go over ging out clothes that isn;t a rugby coat).

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 13/12/2010 17:54

Um. This Christmas I have asked for an Aerolatte and a pepper grinder. I am probably not the best person to advise...

taintedsnow · 13/12/2010 17:58

I would get some luxury bath stuff, also some candles and the like. Then (if I wasn't pregnant) I would get some champagne or an expensive bottle of wine to enjoy while I soak. For afterwards, I would get a giant fluffy dressing gown, some pyjamas, and, of course, some fleecy slippers. I think to round it off I would treat myself to a DVD and a box of biscuits in bed.

Does that help? Xmas Grin

MickyLee · 13/12/2010 18:04

MitchyInge · 13/12/2010 18:23

he's probably got you an amazing surprise present though?

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 13/12/2010 18:26

Fat Face slippers, Fat Face pj's
Emma Bridgewater glassware
Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin shower gel
Microplane grater
White Stuff red cardi
Harrods English Dark Chocolate Orange Creams
A really good cookbook - I have all I want right now, but would recommend Nigel Slater and Sarah Raven.
The latest 44 Scotland St novel
Some gorgeous stationery

thereisthesnowball · 13/12/2010 18:27

ha ha, I doubt it.

But just so I keep my options open, does anyone have anything smallish, that they can't normally justify but that they covet? This is the time for it - what is it?

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 13/12/2010 18:31

smallish but can't justify: would like another kitten Xmas Grin

panettoinydog · 13/12/2010 18:36

The bastard.

Smithagain · 13/12/2010 18:47

I've bought myself a nice leather case for the pen that I keep in my bag, because I lost the one it came with. It is small, discreet and rather more expensive than necessary. Does that count?

Apart from that, I'd go for nice smellies, fancy chocolate and indulgent fluffy slippers any time!

thereisthesnowball · 13/12/2010 19:05

Oh dear, this wasn't supposed to be about bashing my DH - I am more or less fine with it, except I want a treat. The pen case is exactly the kind of thing I meant - a little bit of luxury that gets used every day....

[lightbulb]... like a wallet! Mine is cheap and nasty. But the one it replaced was lovely.
