Stocking questions - sorry if this has been done before.

I need help with 2 things please.

  1. What to put in the stockings of 2 young teenage (ie 13 and 14) boys who are NOT into music, girls, football or most other things. I will get them chocolate, socks or pants, Lynx shower gel and a book, but what else? The things need to cost no more than £5 and they are totally not into things like vouchers for music, cinema etc. Also, I am sick of buying them silly gimmicks which they don't even look at, so no suggestions of buying something from Hawkins Bazaar, etc. Tough, isn't it?

Leading on from that question, every year, I try to buy all 4 of my kids one thing they can play with, possibly together. Previous good ideas have been pop guns when they were little, torches when a bit older, and last year, my best idea ever, I bought them each a walkie talkie which are still going strong and have proved invaluable when we have gone out for country walks. I think I may have reached the pinnacle of achievement with those walkie talkies but just in case you know better, I am looking for ideas for this year.

Thanks.

stocking - novelty soap, magic facecloth, electric toothbrush, stationary - highlighters, post it notes, battery operated pencil sharpener, mobile phone sock, undies, gloves, torch, shower gel, juggling balls, a slinky spring, pass the pigs game, headphones.

Any good?

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 07/12/2010 17:50

DVDs, art stuff, alarm clock, top trumps, umm....

DGirlsandBoysWontGetAnyToys · 07/12/2010 18:31

Hmmm, apart from pass the pigs (what is that?) I have bought all these things in the past. They either don't get used (eg stationery - something you would think any school child would use - well, mine don't Hmm) or don't need right now because they already have them eg alarm clock.

I will think about headphones though. Not for use with mp3 player - they aren't interested in those - but maybe something so I don't have to listen to the noises on their dses?

Cheap set of walk talkies. Put one in each stocking. They can then chat to each other.

Nerf guns.

Lego

Great minds, sorry missed you original post about walk talkies.

small radio controlled cars that they can all race together?

NorbertDentressAngelOnTheTree · 07/12/2010 18:49

If they're not into all those things you listed what exactly are they in to? I can't think of anything teenage boys like other than music, football, girls!

Books, magazines, crossword/suduko puzzle books, something sciencey (Make Your Own Slime type kits)?

search for discounts

what about something to grow? Or a wormery or something?

www.sciencemuseumshop.co.uk?

Have got my two Zibits robots (dd wanted a robot from FC and thought they'd do the job!) - I think you can play with them together (races or something, I don't know). I know my two are pre-schoolers but iirc they are collectable or something, so might appeal to teenagers too...

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 07/12/2010 18:51

13 and 14 year old boys are too old for stockings.

tassisssss · 07/12/2010 18:58

pass the pigs is a silly game for around a fiver on amazon (well it was a fiver last week seems to be £7.99 this week)

similar ideas - yes/no game yatzee

harmonica, rubiks cube, puzzle book or magazine, novelty egg cup - they have a nice soldier one in M and S

headphones could be good.

bigchris · 07/12/2010 19:37

What are they into?
Ds games? Wii games?

Himalaya · 07/12/2010 20:06

How about some more grown up 'little useful things' (think of it as stocking up their 'hope chest') for when they leave home --- shoe polish kit, sewing kit....

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 07/12/2010 20:17

Look at lifeissweet's contribution to this thread for the personal touch.

Sorry, had to be done!

What about a belt like this
I put a magazine in my boys and then stuff like marmite, nutella, jars of dips, hot chocolate sachets.
Set of darts and then a dartboard to share.

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 07/12/2010 20:22

Any parents of teen boys, do look at the thread above for inspiration! Grin

DGirlsandBoysWontGetAnyToys · 07/12/2010 22:18

They aren't even into masturbation though! (yes, I do know Blush I change their sheets!).

What are they into? Pokemon games, computers, Warhammer, Top Gear and ds2 likes documentaries on tv eg nature, history and the like.

They are hard to buy for aren't they?
