Teenage girls

Agh. Am really struggling with buying gifts for my teenage dds this year. Their lists are useless!

What can I buy them that will look 'big' under the tree but doesn't cost much at all please?

They will already have - a Wii game each, a DVD each, a book each, PJs - but it will look like nothing when wrapped, despite having cost quite a bit!

A cheapish bean bag?
Bulky scarf?
Novelty slippers?
White board for their bedroom?

Get a big box, fill with tissue or fake snow and fill with normal stuff you would buy for them anyway - shampoo, make up, nail varnish, shower gel, deodorant, hair styling stuff, false eyelashes, razor blades. Bit of an outlay but you won't have to buy for next few months!

A big animal print fleecy throw.

A big fluffy cushion for their bedrooms.

Hmmmm..... on the theme of BIG but reasonably priced presents...

• Poster of (insert relevant idol) in a cardboard tube?

• School/college bag

• Lap tray

• Beach/swimming towel

• Photo album - the sticky ones are good cos they can put mementos of the year in them.

• Memory box - could be a shoe box covered in tissue paper (my version!), or something you buy from a craft shop. Put a little note inside saying they are growing up and this is for their memories of 2011.

• Hot water bottle

• Family game - Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary

Also, my DB once was given a sum of money, pennies all individually wrapped in a kind of russian dollesque box arrangement. He only had a fiver but it took him a good hour to unwrap it. You could do this with anything small - cinema vouchers, top up for phone,

I've just bought dd1 a jewelry stand from Sainsburys, it's metal, has a butterfly at the top and cost £15. I got both girls the big box set of Soap and Glory stuff from Boots,£20. I'm looking for a big canvas print to go in their rooms, you can get these for less than £10, there's loads around.

I have decided not to do selection boxes this year and have got them a goodie bag from hotel Chocolate each..hoping they might share with me!

I've done the dvd and popcorn idea a lot for gifts for friends but it never entered my head to do it for the dds! Will deffo do that.

towel is a good idea too - we ALWAYS need new towels!

whittards do a nice box set of tall mug, two tins of hot chocolate and packet of mini marshmallows. A good size of presetn too.

Am also thinking of some colourful Hunters fleece welly-liners, especially with all teh snow forecasr.

I think they are releasing the box set of the three Back to the Future films this month.

Wilkinsons have a set with hot water bottle, mug & cocoa for £7.97.
If they haven't already got one, how about a radio for their bedroom?

Oh and Robert Dyas had Orla Kiely water bottles reduced to £1 recently.

Next had the hunter wellies and liners in the kids section - not sure how big the sizes go though.

Thanks Dexter - they both have big feet though, so I doubt the children's section will go big enough.

Maybe not - I think they only go up to 5's. My daughter has them (Granny bought them - I am too stingy) and they are fantastic I have to admit.

I bought my teenage cousin a yard of Jaffa Cakes today for his present. It was £2.50 from Tesco and looks like much more as it is nice and big.

Big enough for me though Dexter - I'm only a four - so I may treat myself instead!

LOVE the yard of Jaffa cakes idea - dd1 would love it but dd2 is a wierdo who doesn't like them. Will investigate this thing of wonder further - thanks Daisy :)
