How many other people are buying gifts for your children?

Besides you and the child's other parent, I mean?

It's 4 for us: 2 grannies, a separate grandpa plus an uncle. I thought that was A LOT (it means an extra 12 items under the tree for the children) but I have a feeling it's on the low side compared to many?

1 set of great grandparents
2 sets of grandparents
4 sets aunt/uncles
4 sets of friends

I actually never thought of it like that......don't think I feel so bad now about paring down my toy budget this christmas!

MooMooFarm · 22/11/2010 11:23

Grandparents both sides, two aunties & uncles and a couple of other more distant relatives, who only buy for us (as us for them) as we do keep in touch regularly.

HughRinal · 22/11/2010 11:28

1 Set grandparents
1 Uncle

I always over compensate as we have no family (well none that keeps in touch anyway) Makes me feel better that there are others the same.
Have an agreement with friends not to buy presents and I only buy for our kids and 2 nephews and a niece.

Tikitikitembo · 22/11/2010 11:30

one Sad

DandyDan · 22/11/2010 11:31

Lots, from -

Us
My in-laws
My parents (who buy PILES of stuff for them but they get these presents on Boxing Day)
My aunt
My brother and sil
Three sister/brothers-in-law who buy one present for all of them (sweets hamper/HMV token/DVD etc)
Three separate godparents who buy for all of them
Another three godparents who buy for their particular godchild
A couple of folk from church who give them chocolate/money.

Curiousmama · 22/11/2010 11:54

Tikitikitembo don't be Sad Your dc/s will grow up not being spoilt.

Tikitikitembo · 22/11/2010 11:58

I know, my Dc are lovely and always happy with what they do have. We have some family (not many) but some can't and some don't give presents. We always seem to have a lovely xmas anyway. Smile

ShadeofViolet · 22/11/2010 11:58

4 sets of Grandparents
My Sister
My Aunt
My Nana
DH's Brother and SIL.

Curiousmama · 22/11/2010 12:00

yes that's what Christmas is about Tiki Smile My 2 dss are sharing their main present from me and dp. It's something they both want. Ds2 is 10 and still believes in Santa though Smile

cathers · 22/11/2010 13:11

2 sets of grandparents
2 sets of uncles
6 sets of friends (childrens friends)
10 sets of great aunts / uncles
4 sets of godparents
2 sets of adult friends

We have a large close family and lucky with good dear friends too. We like, and they like, to show appreciation at Christmas by giving to the kids.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 22/11/2010 13:15

Hmmm, I think it's lots:

My parents
MIL
FIL (separated so 2 lots of presents)
Great Nana
Great Aunt
3 x Uncles

  • a couple of childless friends of ours

it's a bit of an onslaught really, and we only have a small house. And DD's birthday is 23 Dec Shock

notpartofthelifeplan · 22/11/2010 13:19

Around 15 or 16 (all family) it is far too many. They don't need so many presents and I can't afford to reciprocate. Next year I am going to tell everyone that I want to stop present swapping. It will go down like a lead balloon.

FreudianSlimmery · 22/11/2010 13:36

I'm quite glad we don't have a lot of relatives... It means we don't have too many toys and also we don't have to fork out for loads of other kids :o

I think if we did have a big family we would either all team up to get 'better' presents, or do a secret Santa.

notpartofthelifeplan · 22/11/2010 13:37

The secret santa is a very good idea, I think I might suggest that.

Iklboo · 22/11/2010 13:40

MIL (at least 2 presents)
FIL & his wife
My folks (at least 2 presents)
3 BILs
1 SIL
2 of MIL's neighbours
DS's best friend
DH's aunt & uncle
1 of DH's cousins and his wife

The boy is ruined I tell ya Grin

Eddas · 22/11/2010 13:50

My children are very lucky but dh and I have extended families and on my side they are the only 2 children.

They get bought for by

My dad and Step mother
My sis
My brother
My Nan
My step brother
My step sister and her dh
My friend
My Aunt used to buy for them but I think she's stopped
DH's mum and step dad
Dh's Dad
Dh's brother & SIL
Dh's other brother
Dh's step sister
Dh's other step sister
DH's step brother
Dh's nan
Dh's other nan
DH's aunt(sometimes)
Dh's best friend
Dh's other best friend

That's quite ridiculous actuallyBlush

Emjxxx · 22/11/2010 14:20

my mum and dad
my brother and sil
my 2x aunties
my nan
my grandad
my Besty mate
DP mum and dad
DP sister and bil
Couple of close friends of mine and DP

and they normally get 2-3 presents from each. DD who is older also gets from her best friends.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/11/2010 14:30

Pressies from:

Us
1 set of GrandparentsSad FIL died this year.
Brother and SIL
Sister and BIL

Now FIL has gone, I sort of feel obliged to spend abit more on ds's so they don't miss out.

EmmaNate · 22/11/2010 14:31

1 present each from 3 sets of grandparents
1 present each from my youngest DB
1 present each from my other DB and SIL

so 5 extra each.

melrose · 22/11/2010 14:35

Too many!

3 sets of GPs
4 Aunts and Uncles
4 sets of Godparents (who all buy for both, not just the one they are Godparent to)

so 11 presents ecah (+ from us and stocking from Santa)

And they all keep e-mailing me for deas which are rapidly running out, all a bit ridiculous really!

Francagoestohollywood · 22/11/2010 14:42

My parents
Inlaws
My brother and his wife
Bil and his wife
My aunt
Dh's 3 aunts

Also we are planning to have a Christmas party with some close friends and we were thinking of a raffle for the dc (with very cheap stuff, 4/5 euros maximum)

cleanandclothed · 22/11/2010 14:51

Too many!

2 sets GPs
1 Great GP
2 aunts
1 uncle
2 Godparents
2 Great-Uncles

That is 10 even if they only get him one present each. So I think it will end up being more like 15. Some will be (small) cheques, which is lovely, and I will go round before Christmas and do a subtle removal of some of the toys DS doesn't play with so he has room for the others (he is only 2 btw, he won't notice!)

Lorelai · 22/11/2010 14:54

Too many!

2 sets of grandparents
1 aunt
1 uncle
1 of my cousins
2 godparents (both childless, both will buy multiple presents)
3 other friends of our (none with kids)
2 or 3 of my godparents
various other random neighbours/friends

Not so bad if they all only buy for DD but I am sure most if not all will also buy for soon-to-arrive DC2 even though I have made it clear that a 2-4 week old 2nd baby does not need anything at all!

SoMuchToBits · 23/11/2010 14:28

My Mum
PILs
My 2 sisters
Dh's sister and brother
My aunt
About 4 from family friends

mogs0 · 23/11/2010 14:45

2 sets of GPs
2 Great Aunts
2 Aunties (who buy at least a mountain of toys each for ds)
3 of my friends
My mum's best friend
My sister's in-laws
Friends of my Aunt's often give him money
Parents of children I used to look after
Parents of children I currently look after..

The list just goes on and on and it's no wonder my house is so full!

That's without ds having any contact with his father or that side of his family.
