How many people do you buy for?

I have just done our list of who to buy for and even with just doing mine and DH's family and very close friends there are nearly 30 people on the list!

There is no-one I want to not buy for this year - except maybe DH's sister-in-law Grin

How many people do you buy for?

8 in my family, 6 in DH's, DH, DS, and about 9 or 10 assorted godchildren/friend's children. Too bloody many! Have already entered into some reciprocal 'children only' arrangements with some family, but not all.

Ragwort · 19/10/2010 21:22

We've ruthlessly culled our list - no adults (small gift for GPs from DS) - less than 10 children and my best friend. May buy DH a book Grin.

reddaisy · 19/10/2010 21:24

Most of my friends haven't got children yet so I can't do the children only thing yet unfortunately.

But we have set a limit for the children this year, pre-DD I used to spend around £20-£25 on goddaughter, other children in the family etc.

But we have agreed £10 gifts this year which will help.

Ragwort - that is ruthless, I'm impressed. DH and I are setting a price limit this year (which is still to be decided)to help reduce the outgoings as it gets ridiculous.

But I do love buying nice presents for people that I know they will love.

Hulababy · 19/10/2010 21:29

27 at last count - need to make sure I haven't forgotten anyone!

alfabetty · 19/10/2010 21:29

DH and 2 DCs.
Plus
My family - 14 people
DH's family - 5
DH's extended family - 6 (now reduced to 1 for secret santa)
Godchildren - 6

Bottle of wine/chocs for 3 couples.

Plus 2 gifts for mother and child through a charity we buy for.

Do I win? Smile

It is ridiculous. Apart from the charity gift, none of them need it [curmudgeon].

maktaitai · 19/10/2010 21:35

10: DS, DH, 6 nieces and nephews, and 1 small godchild. Homemade biscuits for 1 teacher.

If we are invited to relatives for Christmas Day I will buy an additional small present for the hosts, plus taking food and wine.

We got extremely ruthless 4 years ago when our income dropped like a stone. I was really sad about it initially (and not just because it meant far less presents for me!) but was amazed how unstressful Christmas suddenly became. I thought I liked Christmas shopping, and in a way I do, but the amount of headspace that got freed up was almost shocking.

reddaisy · 19/10/2010 21:35

You are definitely in the lead alfabetty.

moogalicious · 19/10/2010 21:35

Not too bad here:

Me & DH don't buy for each other
3 dc
5 on my side of the family
2 on DH's
3 very small gifts for friends dc's

maktaitai · 19/10/2010 21:37

Oops sorry: also 1 stocking for ds!

edwardcullensothermarriedwoman · 19/10/2010 22:05

Since having DS I only buy for the children in the family (4), DS, DH, our parents (6) and our grandparents (3).
Generally budget £10 per person, £100 each for DH, DS and myself. We also do a stocking for DS, and one each for each other.
I've always seen it as a bit daft buying for everyone in the family - all we do is swap wine/biscuits/chocolates - when we can just buy them for ourselves and know what we want!
How many days is it now? [hgrin]

babytinkabell · 20/10/2010 11:25

In previous years it has been:

Ds and dd
MIL and FIL
My parents
My brother
One child on dhs side (we do kris kindle)
Ds teacher

This year we are adding:

2 x foster children
Foster childs mum
Other foster childs parents and sisters
Girls social workers (amazing people and have kept me sane at times so gifts are well deservrd!)

QuoththeRaven · 20/10/2010 12:18

DH and DS
Mum and Dad
PIL
3 Children in family/friends
2 Grandparents
3 friends
present for our neighbours

spend about 100 on DS, 80 for me and dh and between £5 - £25 on everyone else

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 20/10/2010 12:24

I'm Shock at anyone buying for adults - crazy and unnecessary IMO. We culled all those years ago. Don't bother with most of friends' children for Xmas either - with agreement that they don't buy for ours!

We arrange to spend time with people instead.

Our children have far too much stuff already, as do most of our friend's children.

The only friend's child I make exception for is one who has almost no family (GPs, etc) and has v little, so I always spoil her a little bit Smile.

Cull, cull, cull. Then you won't be left paying for Christmas in July.

Smile
KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 20/10/2010 12:25

friends' children - oops! Blush

DH
4 DC's
My parents (dh's are no longer with us)
10 children of close cousins
neighbour and her 2 dc's (we are quite close)
my oldest friend
5 teachers
dh's cousin

We only do children in our family, so no need to buy for my aunts/uncles/cousins. Dh and I are both only children with huge extended families.

and i dish out homemade chutney etc to anyone that comes near my house in the month of December Grin

neverenoughMEtime · 20/10/2010 12:32

we buy for 22 people Shock

The only adults we buy for are my brothers and their wives, our parents and little things for our 3 sets of grandparents..Oh and a family friend.

theITgirl · 20/10/2010 12:39

Over 40
But we have already been ruthless and cut out all unnecessary people.

This is just Parents, siblings, nephews & nieces, godchildren, token for my childrens godparents, teachers & TA's (although these will have to go this year). Secret santa's at work, DH, DS & DD

I just cannot see how this can be cut back any further.

Trubert · 20/10/2010 12:40

16 plus the kids.

It's not too bad. But I have found that as I cull adults from the list they get replaced by children...

LunarSea · 20/10/2010 12:48

2 x ds's
dh
my parents
dh's parents
my grandmother
my brother and his wife
ds1's teacher
ds2's pre-school teacher (+ maybe previous nursery worker as he only moved into pre-school during the year)
probably ds1's sports coaches

So 14 or 15 altogether.

dolphin13 · 20/10/2010 14:26

Myself and dh will buy for each other

plus
3 dc
3 foster children
2 siblings of foster children
5 family of foster children
joint pressie for social workers (big tin chocs)
4 cousins
3 dc of dds best friend
fil
mum
2 brothers
1 sister
2 friends
4 teachers (just a token)
Bil
The dog Grin

Bloody hell why did you ask. I've never counted up before. Thank god we don't speak to most of DHs family.
I would like to stop buying for adults but one of my brothers has no family. He is always very generous to our children and it seems wrong to let him fork out so much and get nothing in return.

ComeWhineWithMe · 20/10/2010 14:31

6 dc.
4 parents
5 siblings and 2 bil's
1 great Grandparent
4 aunts /uncles
8 teaching staff
4 dc friends
4 Nephews
6 Cousins

and about 12 bottles of wine.

ComeWhineWithMe · 20/10/2010 14:32

My fingers were itching to put DP's Grandad but he died this year :( just seems wrong not jotting his name down and putting jigsaw(his hobby) next to it.

Ragwort · 20/10/2010 16:04

Can't believe how many some of you buy for !!

Don't you get fed up with all the tat gifts you get back for your DC or is it all really nice stuff? 90% of what my DS receives goes straight to the charity shop !

As knitting said, my DS already has far too much stuff, as do most kids.

I never buy presents for teachers - just send a proper, hand written Grin card thanking them for what they have done during the last year.
