How many people do you buy for?

I have just done our list of who to buy for and even with just doing mine and DH's family and very close friends there are nearly 30 people on the list!

There is no-one I want to not buy for this year - except maybe DH's sister-in-law Grin

How many people do you buy for?

I know what you mean ComeWhineWithMe - I usually find it really hard to find nice 'granny' birthday/christmas cards etc, so when I saw a nice one the other week I bought it without thinking - my poor old granny passed away this year.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 20/10/2010 20:11

The tat count we get back from people is pretty low and the only adults we buy for are close family who I (mostly) like choosing presents for.

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 20/10/2010 21:30

theITgirl, your siblings could go for starters! Honestly, it really is easier than you'd imagine - once you broach the subject you'd be amazed how many people are relieved you've brought it up!

The amount of money wasted on unwanted Xmas presents every year in this country is truly obscene. You only have to go into any dept store and see the place piled high with crap novelty gifts to know how much of this is going straight into a cupboard/charity shop/bin.

We agree with our siblings to make a date near Xmas to go for a special meal - everyone enjoys, no tat acquired Grin.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 20/10/2010 21:35

But Knitting - my sis doesn't have children and I'd feel awful if I didn't buy her presents (no novelty gifts, all quality!) for Christmas when she buys presents for my DS. We don't do siblings on DH's side of the family but we all have children.

There's also the fact that my family love presents (and Christmas!). Grin

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 20/10/2010 21:36

Oh, and we see all our nearest and dearest friends and relatives for special meals and get togethers too Wink

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 20/10/2010 21:49

Lol DG, my brothers don't have kids either but they really don't mind Grin.

We love presents too, but we save spoiling each other for birthdays - it just gets too expensive otherwise.

Each to their own Smile.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 20/10/2010 21:52

Indeed! Your brothers are clearly more selfless than my sister. Grin Don't get me started on birthdays - Have a 30th, 40th and two 60th's next year.

Simbacat · 20/10/2010 21:57

7 nieces and nephews
My 2 children
Joint presents for 6 adult couples (grannies, sisters etc)

Gift for each of my staff

That it. All done and wrapped already.

Don't buy for oh or any distant relatives.

Plus 2 presents and 22 shoe boxes for charities.

HeadFairy · 20/10/2010 21:59

DS and DD,
won't buy anything for my sister and her husband, but will buy for their two dds
My mum and dad
My aunt and two cousins
My uncle
My best friend's two dcs
My grandmother
Dh's mum and dad
Dh's sister
Our nanny
Our neighbour's dd

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 20/10/2010 22:00

Grin I'll tell them that!!

Hmm, we have lots of 40ths coming up in the next couple of years - but in these times of austerity I'm assuming no one will expect presents Wink.

Marne · 21/10/2010 14:29

mum
mums partner
Dad
dads partner
My cousins children (3)
My friends child (something small)
2 nieces
2 dd's
3 step children
Grandparents (box of biscuits or similar)
Dh

BabyValentine · 21/10/2010 14:41

DH & DD = 2
My family (parents and step-parents; 3 brothers & wives; 1 sister; 2 nieces; 1 GP; 2 x step-cousins) = 14
His family (parents and partners; 1 brother & GF; 1 sister & DH; 1 nephew; 1 GP) = 10
Friends = 2
Assorted friends children = 8

So that is 36 altogether. I like to bargain hunt though, so the DCs only get £10 or less, as do the friends and GPs. Silly really.

BabyValentine · 21/10/2010 14:44

And just to justify such expenditure, I don't buy tat really. And I encourage anyone who receives anything they already have or don't like to regift/sell on eBay/exchange.

SeaTrek · 21/10/2010 20:05

We stopped buying for adults, apart from the ILs and my parents years ago.

ALL of the children, apart from our own, that we buy for require presents posting to them and I made the decision that it was getting ridiculous. We now buy them gifts when we see them instead and it works out much better.

So, my list in TINY!

ILs
my parents
our children

Christmas is so much nicer and relaxed now!
