I'm hoping the lovely mumsnetters can give me some inspiration for presents for my 2.6 yo son. What will you be buying or asking relatives to buy? We havent bought presents for ds in the past as we thought he would be too little to care and just took the glory for expensive toy kitchens bought by grandparents etc!

Need ideas for wish list and present from us.

would not get v motion it is not very sensitive to motion and games a actualy very difficult. DD 4.7 gets very frustrated with it but she can manage some of her older cousins wii games such as bowling and academy stuff far better. she has asked for wii from last xmas but not getting one for a few years.

play mobile is a fantastic investment they will play with it untill 6+. i would invest in simple stuff like magnetic letters, bath toys and a good one is v tech laptop she got 2 yrs ago from an aunt but has only began using from last 12mnths since she was running upto 4. for boys train tack, all the thomas link stuff is good investment. instruments like tamborines and rain makers and key boards are graet she still plays with them. iu would invest a cple of turn taking games simple like snakes and ladders

allhallowsandwine · 15/10/2010 01:35

if you are thinking kitchen rose pettal cottage is fantastic i bout dd for her christamas when she was 1.5, she is 4.6 and it is still in wonerfull condition...its typically girly but in actual fact all the boys who come to play just cant enough of it. it is pricy when you look at it but its hard wearing and you can buypass thier accessories for much cheaper food and utencils. it is a better investment that the plastic type kitchens as it can evolve a little betteras they grow i use the tent space for other role play toys such as dressing up and shop.

saffy85 · 15/10/2010 06:35

DD (3) is getting sleeping beauty dress up clothes (only thing she has asked for)
ariel doll
playdoh
russian doll because she loves my mums so much
PJs
books
stories on CD.

She hasn't asked for anything big yet so I'm sticking to things she can have fun with indoors now it's getting colder.

izzybiz · 15/10/2010 06:44

We want to get our Ds This
He has just turned 2, will also be getting him Buzz Lightyear to go with his Woody, he also loves animals so probably more of those!

smugtandemfeeder · 15/10/2010 07:09

domesticgoddess my son has the brio my first train set which he plays with occasionally. I think its too small for him. would be a great idea to add to it at Christmas.

piscesmoon · 15/10/2010 07:14

A brio train set with all the extras-points, bridges etc was the best thing that we ever bought-all 3 DCs had hours and hours of fun with it.

RockBat · 15/10/2010 07:37

What's that ELC keyboard and stool thing like. I saw it yesterday on the £25 deal and I still have a 20% off voucher. My 2.9yo would love it but is it any good?

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 15/10/2010 07:45

Lots of half price Peppa Pig stuff in Tesco atm.

Threelittleducks · 15/10/2010 07:47

Ds will be getting some more Chuggington interactive track. He got the starter and a couple of trains for his birthday. Much better than the wooden one (which we have already) as ds is a hammersmash, so the slightest touh knocks it all apart. But the Chuggington one locks together and they all talk to each other - which he loves.

Also, anything Toy Story.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/10/2010 08:12

smugtandemfeeder - yeah, I think they can grow out of the 'my first' starter sets quite quickly.

Brio do a range of 'figure of 8' type sets (DS has the 'fun on the farm one' which is good) that with a few bits of straight track/points etc you could add to your existing track. If you're DS likes Thomas I got some half price Thomas accessories here which are compatible with the Brio stuff.

smugtandemfeeder · 15/10/2010 10:01

I have now spent half the morning getting obsessed with different makes of balance bikes (Islabike or like-a-bike or rip-off-copy-more-sensible-carbootsale-bike. I've created a nice amazon wish list with lots of things mentioned here which I can send to relatives. Most exciting.

saffy85 - Where did you get the Russian dolls from? I've been keeping my eyes out for a reasonably priced set but everywhere seems so expensive for dd to bang around

lanismum · 15/10/2010 10:28

dd2 3.6 is getting a bike from my mum, a ds, some ds games, toy story 3 stuff, think there are a couple of blue rays she has her eye on, craft stuff and some singstar games sand mics as a joint present with her older sister, she is at an age where she wants to be more grown up like her sister, but will still play with her little brothers toys, 3 yr olds are quite hard to buy for!

lanismum · 15/10/2010 10:30

Yes I am on the lookout for russian doll sets too, I wanted some sturdy ones as all the wooden ones I have seen look quite delicate...

peanutsmuggler · 15/10/2010 11:18

There are some pink russian dolls on the next website at the moment that look quite robust.

My 2.5 year old DD is getting...

A Sally doll
Tea Set
Doctors Case
Cinderella Dress
2 DVD's (Dora & Care Bears)
Books
and a stocking with various knick knacks in

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 15/10/2010 12:12

I ahve a son who will be 2.8; he's my 4th (and last!) son so used to buying for boys LOL.

balance bike
toy Story dinosaur rex
megablocks
Sonic Screwdriver (bit young but due to brothers is Who obsessive)
toy story 3 DVD

RockBat · 15/10/2010 15:07

Arsebiscuits. Has that offer on the ELC keyboard ended? I went to get it today but it was back to full price. Thought it was because I was in a Mothercare but the website says £45 as well Angry

bytheMoonlight · 15/10/2010 19:27

Thanks peanut Smile

tummytickler · 15/10/2010 20:01

Ds will be 3.4 at Christmas and we have got / are getting him

VTech digital plus camera
(another) fire engine
toy kitchen
food
books
art stuff
Fireman dressing up
Orchard Toys shopping list game

plus all the usual bits (cloths, pj's, little cars, puzzles) in the stocking.

Grandparents are getting balance bike.

tummytickler · 15/10/2010 20:05

I meant clothes Blush. But cloths too actually, little magic expandable face cloths usually go in stockings too Grin

smugtandemfeeder · 15/10/2010 20:53

oooh tummytickler I hadnt seen Orchard Toys before, thank you. I'm not sure DS would sit still for many of the games yet but the shopping list one he would defo understand and like so i'll add that to his list.

Latest version of list now comprises:

Balance bike - currently liking islabike
Orchard Toys shopping list game
Dr Seuss books
Toy chainsaw Blush he LOVES chainsaws Blush
Policeman role play ELC set
Playdoh
More things for Brio train set
Wooden diggers

Not sure how much of this he will actually get but its nice to have a list to work on.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 15/10/2010 21:29

Our DD will be 2.8 at Christmas and so far we have got her:

A play kitchen
Trolley with plastic food
Pushchair
Dolly
Playmobil Farm thingy
Bricks
Trike
dress up items
clothes

Not sure what else were getting, that might be it, i'm not sure she really understands what xmas is yet Confused

accessorizequeen · 16/10/2010 13:10

shopping list from orchard toys (and add on packs) one of best presents for ds2 when he turned 3. Russian dolls often sold in oxfam in run up to Xmas good value and sturdy.
Orchard toys puzzles are fab, we have the 3 bears one. VG quality and fun!

GhastlyandUgly · 16/10/2010 14:02

DD (2.4 at Christmas) is getting:

Playmobil (can't remember what I've got her, it's something princessy) I will take all the small bits until she's a bit older.
An apron to help with cooking.
A peppa pig unmbrella and new wellies.
Peppa pig and Studio Ghibli DVDs.
Possibly a new bed (haven't decided on thos yet)
Orchard Toys shopping list game (inspired by this thread)
Dressing up

I can't recommend the Microscooters enough. Both DD and DS (4) have them and use them all the time.

SleepWhenImDead · 28/10/2010 14:10

Is it just me who thinks these lists are huge? DS1 will be nearly 3 and will be getting something like:

Train station for his train set (2nd hand from ebay)
Toy story 3 bluray
tool set
small football
cars or trains poster
craft stuff
playdoh factory
new buzz lightyear toothbrush
cars/ buzz lightyear tshirt

and that's about it. I'm going to ask one or both grandparents to pitch in for a Mini Micro Scooter as he really wants one.

Remember everyone that you're only going to set a precedent for future years, they DON'T know the price of things, they DON'T know whether something is second hand or not. Seriously, I think some of you have more money than sense. Hmm
