The Christmas Eve Pyjama thing - don't your DC end up with truck loads of jammies?

DDs particularly, with night dresses? My DD's have lasted 3 years, still big enough, still going strong. Feels daft to buy her more (missing the point I know, but..).

mine always needs new pj's so no, she doesn't end up with truck loads. & I like new pj's too so may treat myself as well

whomovedmychocolate · 25/09/2010 13:26

I assume they do wear them after christmas eve?

Ceebee74 · 25/09/2010 13:27

Yes, think you may be missing the point Wink

Imo, you can never have too many pyjamas (I am a PJ-obsessive) Grin

muggglewump · 25/09/2010 13:28

No, I generally only buy them at Christmas and birthdays anyway, as I turn essentials into gifts.

whomovedmychocolate · 25/09/2010 13:29

I have too many PJs - can't fit them in the cupboard. May have to have a cull soon.

bigchris · 25/09/2010 13:29

I don't buy them at Xmas because my sister lacks imagination always buys them pjs Grin

Astrophe · 25/09/2010 13:34

see DS does need some, but DD really does not, and I hate to buys something we dont need at all. but do like the idea of the tradition (we did it last year, so this we we can continue or not...).

Is there something else along the same lines I could give DD instead?

My two girls are 17 and 13 and I still get them new pj's for Christmas Eve. I no longer insist they match after a threatened revolt a few years back. Now they get to choose their own.

It's prob the only time I buy them pj's and so allowing for growth and wear & tear they don't end up with loads. Not sure how much longer I can keep it up though, maybe when the eldest goes away to Uni! I shall start again when I'm a Grandma.

ShowOfHands · 25/09/2010 13:38

Nope. DD couldn't get last year's pyjamas over her head if she tried.

I also only buy them for Christmas/birthdays so by the time the next year comes round she's usually outgrown or outworn at least one pair.

Astrophe · 25/09/2010 13:40

have had a realisation just now - that of course your DC grow out of their winter pjs in a year (as limbs handing out of sleeves is not a good look), but my Southern Hemisphere DC don;t grow out of their summer jammies in a year. Winter jammies get replaced more often. Hmmm, maybe I should leave the tradition to your northerners?

I love pjs also have loads for ds :) you can never have to many pjs x

fruitful · 25/09/2010 19:59

Dd is getting a dressing-gown this year cos she needs one, and doesn't need pjs. The boys both need new pjs though.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/09/2010 20:08

I am Confused now. Do your children grow slower than ours, or do you just mean that shorts and t-shirt pjs last longer than long pjs?

ja9 · 25/09/2010 21:44

astrophe

don't be tight! buy them a new pair for xmas if they've been wearing the same ones for the last 3 yrs Wink

orienteerer · 25/09/2010 21:48

Astrope means that it doesn't matter if summer pj's get a bit short on the limbs, not in the same way that Northern long sleeve/leg ones do.

tefal · 26/09/2010 12:05

Can you actually get children's ones with christmas themes on them?

Astrophe · 26/09/2010 12:40

yes orienteer, thats what I mean!

Ja9 - I know, I sound awful! But seriously, DD has two lovely boden night dresses, a lovely POP one, and another (older, tatty-er) one, all still look nice, and all still big enough for her. But yes, I think I will just bite the bullet and buy some more. Tis Christmas afterall.

OP posts:
pointydog · 26/09/2010 12:56

If your child has loads of pjs/nighties, then of course you don't buy more for Christmas. That is obv.

Get them a christmas book instead.

ja9 · 26/09/2010 13:00

Grin @ astrophe! there you are! new pjs for your poor deprived boden wearing childers! Be sure to pick some nice ones if they're going to be wearing them for years! xx

HappyMummyOfOne · 26/09/2010 13:00

I buy new Pj's for xmas eve but get normal ones rather than xmas design. Pjs get washed regular and fade with time so we dont end up with lots. I only do the laundry at weekends though so have enough to get through a whole week.

You could do a xmas book, dvd, craft activity instead. We make DS a bag with various things in and leave it for him xmas eve morning.

MaMoTTaT · 26/09/2010 13:03

does it actually matter if PJ's fade??

You only wear them in bed surely - people don't actually replace PJ's just because they're faded do they????

Astrophe · 26/09/2010 13:34

mamatt - I wouldn't, no. And normally I wouldn't dream of buying something we didn;t need just for the sake of it, its just that I feel I've started (and would like to continue) this jolly tradition now...

and because its summer here, I can't even branch out into dressing gown or slippers, beceuse we don't need either of them. Maybe will get DD new knickers instead.

OP posts:
MaMoTTaT · 26/09/2010 13:36

sorry Astrophe - I kind of guessed that 3yrs wear out of PJ's means you don't replace when faded Wink

I was reponsing to HMOO above who said that they fade with time

Astrophe · 26/09/2010 14:24

lol MaamoTtat :o But actually, the boden ones have washed very well - not faded at all Wink. When they look tatty/thin/holey, I chuck 'em though.

How about just do the reindeer food, drink & mince pie for santa and carrott for reindeer, and hot choc with a dvd for your dd? If the nighties are still going strong then probably a waste of time getting new ones
