I am in exactly the same position however my ds hasnt got a play kitchen so planning on getting this as his big present.

I've already got some things for xmas this year, If you havent already got one how about the kid tough cameras my 3 yr old son loves taking photos so i managed to get the blue fisher price one from boots a couple of months ago for £29.99 quite pleased now as i know he's going to love it.

create · 28/07/2010 19:18

3 yo will be quite happy with nowt for Christmas I have been known to wrap up previous years presents that haven't been played with

SacharissaCripslock · 28/07/2010 19:19

Have two of the things! Won one of them on MN. I am now the proud owner of over 300 photos of my 2 year olds feet! Seriously, no exaggeration!

I have a 5 year old DS so everything already seems to have been bought! It doesn't have to cost much, as at just turned 3 it will be quantity over quality lol. Just can't think of anything.

orchard games

SacharissaCripslock · 28/07/2010 19:21

Oh yes, good call Flora, I meant to put them on my list and totally forgot about them! Thanks.

Playmobil

xkaylax · 28/07/2010 19:22

Buckaroo my ds loves this

Is he a fan of toy story lots of things about for that

bluecardi · 28/07/2010 19:23

Jigsaws, Lift the flap & pop up books

ruddynorah · 28/07/2010 19:23

yes have a look at games, kerplunk, buckaroo, guess who etc.

waitingforbedtime · 28/07/2010 19:25

Toy Story definitely but then there is soooooo much stuff its easy to go the other way.

Ds got a wooden fire station (ie dolls house with a pole!) and a tower of doom (elc) for his 3rd birthday / xmas. Loves those.

SacharissaCripslock · 28/07/2010 19:26

Ooo dinosaur playmobil - he's dinosaur mad so that would go down a storm. Thanks ledodgy.

I do actually have a notebook here that I'm scribbling everyone's suggestions in.

xkaylax, we have a Tigger game that is a variation of Buckaroo. But something like Hungry Hippos would be a hit I think. I will want to break the bloody think (I remember my mum shouting at me and my sisters 20+ years ago, as it was so noisy) but I'll just shove in some earplugs.

He is a fan of toy story but we have a Woody and Jessie and he doesn't play with them. Typical.

SacharissaCripslock · 28/07/2010 19:28

waitingforbedtime, I love the look of the tower of doom - does it stay built in one piece? Or will bits keep coming away until I want to kick the thing?

OP posts:
xkaylax · 28/07/2010 19:30

Im thinking of getting toy story operation as i used to love this game but wondering if it will be to hard for a 3 yr old?

play doh bits?
i recently picked up some disney cars trucks half price at tesco and argos

xkaylax · 28/07/2010 19:33

I love the tower of doom but where to put it it's huge?

moocowmrs · 28/07/2010 19:34

Last christmas we bought a large and very sturdy cardboard house from Lula Saphire it is fab, we built it on monday when friends came round, it is large enough to play in and the idea is that they can decorate it I got out the paints along with odds and ends of household paint ( emullsion) that we had left and they had the most wonderful time ever ! was lovely to watch, they will also be able to play with it for a while. They also do airplanes that you stand in, rockets and pods ! was a great pressie at £30 was between two of them as a bonus !
You could also get it before christmas decorate and personalise, it has door, letterbox windows etc.

TheRedQueen · 28/07/2010 19:35

A doctor's kit (unless you count that among dressing up outfits)

SacharissaCripslock · 28/07/2010 19:35

I have bought Toy Story Operation only 2 days ago and indeedy it would be too hard for a 3 year old. Though as long as you let them cheat and just carry on when the buzzer goes off they will probably love it. Sainsburys has 25% off Toy Story stuff at the moment.

I have play doh on my list already - great minds think alike.

SacharissaCripslock · 28/07/2010 19:37

Oh I love the sound of those, moocowmrs. Going to google those.

TheRedQueen, we have a drs kit with the dressing up outfit!

See, it so haaaaaaaaaaaaard. I should just buy a gazillion more dinosaurs and wrap them individually.

OP posts:
xkaylax · 28/07/2010 19:38

Thanks for the tip i'll have a look at sainsburys as planning on getting a couple of toy story bits.

I was also thinking of the fireman accesory case in elc think its on offer in mothercare

scrappydappydoo · 28/07/2010 19:52

Oh I'm glad you started this thread - I keep meaning to do the same but thought I'd get flamed for it being July I have a 3 yr old dd who has everything courtesy of big sis who's 5. WE have copious playdoh and orchard games and dollies and cars etc etc.

chasingrainbows · 28/07/2010 19:57

my dc are 11, 9 & 6 - my experience is that (gadgetry aside) books, cars and lego endure well after the decs are taken down. something to build on is a;ways good.
Brio is fab and also compatible with tescos wooden trains/track n accessories - much cheaper than ELC).

Toffeejelly · 28/07/2010 20:26

Definately Playmobil, that stuff is amazing for kids

watercress · 28/07/2010 20:32

Bike or scooter?

Stories on CDs? This has been fab for my DD as I put them on an MP3 and she can listen to them in the car without subjecting me to them. And they also give me time in the morning to have a shower as I know that she'll sit and listen to them (and read the accompanying book if there is one).

midnightexpress · 28/07/2010 20:36

A balance bike. Our two boys both had one and they looooooooooooooove them. Best money we ever spent on anything for them. And ds1 got a proper bike at 4, jumped on and off he went, no stabilizers, no hours teaching him how to ride it. ds2 is still 3 so he still zooms around on his, taking great pleasure in overtaking 5 year-olds on stabilisers.

Honestly, don't buy piles of crap. Buy him a bike. He'll love it.

waitingforbedtime · 29/07/2010 09:30

The tower of doom would come apart easily if they dismantled it iyswim? However, ds has only done this once in 8 months. He had just turned 3 when he got it and isnt the most gentle or well behaved of boys!

Keep the instructions though, we lost ours - putting it back together was a task and a half!!
