My New Life

I have no idea how this transformation happened. I am in my 40's and have spent my life as an Atheist with tendencies and inquisitiveness around the New Age and witchcraft. I am from a family that was heavily into Satanic practices and witchcraft. I now realise and understand that my life has revolved around a generational curse, that is going to END with me.

I don't even know how my beliefs began to change, but for the last 6 weeks, I have immersed myself in everything Jesus/The Bible/The enemy/The word etc. This almost felt involuntary. And I feel like I have never seen myself or the world in such a clear and logical way.

I now consider myself a Christian and know that this is not something I will ever deviate from for the rest of my life. I'm rather lost in all this - I feel that I need to be baptised, delivered and to find my place.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has gone through this kind of shift with no prompting? My life was fine, I wasn't seeking anything more. I am happily married and was excited for my future.

And yet here I am, unable to like, watch, buy or listen to the things I used to. Completely unable to live my life as I had before. It almost feels like I have spent the last 40 years, blind.

Sorry if this makes no sense, I'm on this journey alone and whilst it isn't lonely, I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else lately?

A really nice app I would recommend is Lectio365. It has a bible reading morning and evening and is a very gentle and contemplative way to spend time with God. I particularly like the evening ones and find them the perfect way to switch off and end the day.

I use that App too. Like you, I like the gentle and calm evening one.

@JustCosy , it's just great to hear stories like yours; mine was much more gradual but it's amazing what God can do to turn lives around. I'd really recommend finding a church that runs an Alpha course. Not only is the course really helpful to understand your newfound faith, but it's also a great way to get to know people and also a church that runs Alpha is likely to be one which is used to new Christians joining and has groups for them to join.

@Happyinarcon if you haven't already seen it there's the Hallow App, some of it is pay to use but there's quite a bit of free prayers and resources on it. It's made for Catholics.

Thanks, I had a quick look at their website. I have to say that I get nervous about things that involve celebrities because I’m used to Hollywood being anti Christian. Especially with the most recent arrests

Take your time and go slowly when it comes to finding a church. Yes it should be one you can get grounded in BUT there are some who collect people who have wandered in wonder on various pagan et al paths as scalps to wave around. I suggest using A Church Near You as that is more likely to give details of services at local parish churches. Many village churches are part of a group of parishes so the Sunday service often moves from one church to another week by week. There will be a contact in the form of a Church Warden if the parish group lacked a current priest in charge (vicar). you might find Rev Paul Cauby book The Shaken Path a useful read. He has spent many years as a village priest in charge and has a deep understanding of a vast variety of pagan paths et al. I have to say he is one of the very few who shuts up and listens more than he talks and he does not collect people to wave about as scalps. You may also find Forest Church a useful resource as it brings in people who are seeking but may not know quite what. it certainly blossomed widely over covid as many churches sought ways to meet outside. I can recommend e-sword as a resource as it allows you to access and cross reference many translations of scripture. Read a variety translations to get a feel for what scripture is signposting to unless you can handle OT Hebrew and NT GK.

Married to a CofE priest and I studied applied theology at a Christian Seminary. If you were seriously LHP rather than pagan PM me as I can check the resources I have here and signpost.

I had this back in February!
We joined a life vineyard church.
Try the bible in a year app. It was not as full on as you'd expect. I'm steadily working through it and I've started bible journalling.

@JustCosy

I think you might like the Book of Wisdom, which you'll find in the Catholic Bible ( excluded from protestant versions).

Maybe also dip into the works of C.S. Lewis?
Thinking especially of "The Screwtape Letters" (a novel) and "Mere Christianity".

(If your ancestors and family dabbled in sorcery, you might like to talk to a priest about this and perhaps explore the impact of this on you.)

Thank you, I have read and watched a lot of information regarding this (generational curses, satanic worship etc) and I'd definitely like to talk to someone about it, just not sure where to turn.

I was specifically pinpointed as a child regarding all this and it had such a detrimental effect on my life that I am now trying to undo.

My life has improved exponentially since understanding all this though, and embracing Jesus :)

The Exorcist Files podcast has quite a lot about generational curses. It's run by a priest and isn't just about sensationalised stories.

mathanxiety · 14/11/2024 19:13

Your best bet to talk about the family's occult practices and their impact on you is a priest. Find your nearest RC cathedral and inquire there. There will be an office phone number, or maybe you could knock on the door and inquire in person. If you're in the London area, the Archdiocese of Westminster would be a good place to ask.

Justmerach · 30/11/2024 22:09

Good luck with your journey. You clearly have started it.It is normal to depart with things from our own life as we develop our faith and you will question your choices often. Sometimes as human beings we can miss these things though.
I would say try and keep it simple and be led by how you feel. Remember that Love of God is the most important thing and Jesus said to love our neighbour as ourselves. The Ten Commandments hold onto them and also the Beatitudes by Jesus don't forget them.
It's never easy. You should have the comforter for life now. Do try and get baptisedl

I also like Lectio365 and if you’re on Facebook follow Pete Greig as he often has very interesting points of view to share. I think your conversion is amazing OP. God bless you.

Thank you :)

I attended my first Church service last night (a Christingle service with my 4 year old) and it was very lovely. I was extremely nervous!

I am slowly navigating through things, and trying to figure it all out. Definitely not missing my old life or old self, which is odd as the last year was my happiest and most content. Although it does feel weird to have such little interest in the things I 'thought' interested me!
I have a baptism set in motion so hopefully that will happen soon.
Feel lucky to have a small church on my doorstep, just need to go more often when people are there, rather than when it is empty 😄

Thank you to everyone for your amazing comments, it means so much!

JustCosy, that sounds wonderful. Christingles are great and I hope your 4 year old liked it too.
You're making amazing strides forward. Blessings.
