I had a look, and seems very sore/or red on inside of outer labia. could barely open her legs.

I gave her a little wash with warm water.

Hope she gets better!
My 8yo dd gets this occasionally.
I usually shower har down and let her aply sudocreme.
So glad it's not just mine!

bruffin · 28/04/2010 10:30

It could be worms, in little girls they can migrate to the front and its very painful.
They tend to be worse at night

hi all, thanks for the help.

ok, most prob a reaction to those leggings.

She has a tendency to asthma and stuff, well the coughing at night parts, and was allergic to egg as baby. It runs in the family, this sensitivity.

So just a one off reaction afa gp concerened. have been home, got a wee sample, and gone back with that.

dd only drinks water, never juice, and wouldn't even look at an orange. Gp said the canestan was the best thingi could have done, for soothing, and was glad i hadn't put sudocreme on, as she finds it can make certian things worse when there's no air getting to it.

Really interesting about the oranges thing... my dd is also quite intoleerant of them, but I never linked it to sore labia... just assumed she'd not wiped properly (pre-schooler y'see).

Hope dd's feeling better soon piratecat.

just another experience here - I'm NOT suggesting that your DD is the same!

We went through a period when DD used to come in to us at night screaming that her "front bum" was sore. We'd give her a bath, calpol cream etc. and phoned NHS 24 once. Strange thing was she never looked sore, everything looked normal. Eventually we've worked out that she's not sore, that she just needs a cuddle or has had a bad dream. I think that she must have been sore at one point and then figured out that she got lots of attention....

We've had discussions about it with her (she's 6) and told her that when she screams it makes us worried and that if she just wants a cuddle to ask for one. It seems to have stopped for now.

Re oranges - a friend's DD get sore bum if she eats oranges - makes her wee acidic or something??

SlartyBartFast · 28/04/2010 15:06

good to know

OrmRenewed · 28/04/2010 15:08

DD used to get this. I thought it was thrush although it seemed to come and go very quickly. Rinse it with tea tree oil in warm water. It kills the pain and cleans it up.

Ozziegirly · 29/04/2010 05:04

Would a flannel soaked in witch hazel help? Or a sanitary pad with witch hazel soaked into it?

I had this a couple of times when i was younger and I think it was mild thrush that I then itched which caused it to go red and inflamed.

Elibean · 29/04/2010 14:33

Your poor dd, piratecat, hope she's better now. My dd1 had very sore parts, on the inside, last year (aged 5.5) and it was actually a streptococcal infection - she needed antibiotics. It came on quite suddenly.

It doesn't sound as though your dd has this (does sound more like allergic reaction) as dd1 had greenish discharge with it. But thought I'd mention it as general info on one possible cause of sore bits.

GP said it was quite common, as the bacteria under fingernails, if they scratch/fiddle around, can cause it (dd has eczema, though just as likely to have been the latter!!).

MegGriffin · 29/04/2010 20:27

My dd sometimes gets this, she is seven. GP said it ws because her urine is very concentrated. If it flares up I give her calpol, a warm bath and sudocreme and this so far has always made it better. DD always puts her own cream on as she then can put it where she wants it. Hope she is better soon.

piratecat · 30/04/2010 07:49

hi, i am getting back to gp today, as it's still bad. not as red raw but still bad.

I think it could be infection too. Tho wee showed up clear.

ffs.

hello, ok, back form gp, dd now has mega anti biotics to try. it was pretty horrendous, as doc took a sawb, and bless her dd was brave but of course it was horrible for her.

fingers crossed eh.

thanks again for all the replies.
