I had a look, and seems very sore/or red on inside of outer labia. could barely open her legs.

I gave her a little wash with warm water.

any ideas? will it go down? she stil wears a night time nappy, and has never had this before.

Has she been drinking alot recently as thrush can be a sign of diabetes. Thats how we discovered my daughter has type 1 diabetes. Could be worth while having her blood sugers tested.

pinkteddy · 27/04/2010 23:12

Have you got any neighbours with young children? I bet someone you know has some that they could lend you. Whereabouts do you live, a mumsnetter might be able to help!

MrsRhettButler · 27/04/2010 23:15

vaseline really helps if its dry/itchy (just the plain one though)

piratecat · 27/04/2010 23:19

it's like a constans low sorepain she says, (hard to get dets out of a kid eh) and then th pain rises ans then she's breathing thru it, as well as crying, then it goes back down again.

i have just given anithistimine on top, .

there is not way this can be touched, she's can't even open her legs without screaming poor thing.

i would have thought canestan would be more soothing than sudocreme, perhaps she just didnt like the thought of it. if you can, reapply, or perhaps vaseline wouldnt do any harm.

SlartyBartFast · 27/04/2010 23:20

cross posts.
a warm hot water bottle
?

TidyBush · 27/04/2010 23:21

Are the leggings dark coloured? It is becoming quite common for people to have an allergic reaction to the dark dye (same stuff as in hair dye) in some clothes, especially in leggings.

If so then I'd suggest NHS direct 0845 4647 (they'll probably refer you to out of hours doc - can you get a taxi if neeeded?)

KickArseQueen · 27/04/2010 23:29

Piratecat, my dd's have had similar instances in the past, I would go for calpol / nurofen to stop the pain and calm her down and get her to put some vaseline on herself Its very inert isn't going to make it any worse and will act as a barrier.

I think that its the thought of someone else touching it that sends the panic all out of proportion iyswim?

Really feeling for you / her!

mumonthenet · 27/04/2010 23:30

get her to sit on a bag of frozen peas?

I mean, if the area's red, sore and inflamed ice might at least take some of the pain away so that she can calm down and you can have another think?

mumonthenet · 27/04/2010 23:32

god, racking my brains here.

pinkteddy · 27/04/2010 23:37

From the NHS Direct website:

If you are under 18 and you have vaginal problems, or if you are caring for a child who has them, please call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 immediately.

Or you may be able to talk to a nurse if you ring your out of hours GP.

blinder · 27/04/2010 23:37

No point trying to get her to sleep in bed. Can you bring a quilt into the living room and put a nice film on for her while you phone NHS Direct?

piratecat · 27/04/2010 23:46

ladies thankyou, so much fr beinghere fo rme.

she is now asleep, i just sat with her and held her hands, and the pain must have started to subside enough fo rher to drift off. guess the plethora of drugs i gaveher haved kicked in.

that was horrible!!

so sudden, and after such a normal but lovely evening.

it's those bloody leggings i swear. i NEVER let her wear anyhting unless it's been laundered, but of course they were a birthday gift, so she put them on, They are white background with grey leopard print spots on from cherokee/tesco.

i gave her benedryl, on top of the pain stuff.

will see how thenight goes, am dreading the we inthe nightpants .

than youagain so much.x

Aw bless, so glad she's asleep at last.

eternallyoptimistic · 28/04/2010 02:17

On 2 / 3 occasions my dd has woken up screaming in pain, saying that she was hurting in the same way. I found that a cold wet flannel helped to ease it enough to get back to sleep (and calpol).

It hasn't happened for a few years now - but I did read somewhere that this can be a reaction to eating oranges/ satsumas.

(sounds a bit weird I know.

piratecat · 28/04/2010 07:25

really?

well she is still hurting this morning, so i guess trip to the docs today, IF i can get an appt. No way she can go to school, she keeps crying out.

bugger.

Has the redness and irritation calmed down? Until you can get a GP appt I'd nip to the chemist and stock up on sudocrem, it'll act as a barrier to the skin to prevent further infection. Bless her, really feel for you both. Could she have been stung or bitten whilst getting dressed/undressed?

piratecat · 28/04/2010 07:45

no don't think so, thanks tho.
there's like a red line down each side, more pink today than blazing red.

i think it's a reaction to the leggings/heat.

OP posts:
first1 · 28/04/2010 07:50

I'm afraid I haven't read the whole thread but have you tried piriton? I really hope you get an appt today. My GP is crap for the on the appts, it has to be emergency only (which your case Id say def is!), but people at my surgery seem to grab them for a sore throat and it really annoys me!

heading4home · 28/04/2010 07:53

piratecat, my daughter (6) gets this sometimes, and it's because she doesn't clean herself properly after weeing/pooing. It's really agony and sometimes even bleeds. I bet heat or sweaty leggings would make it worse, as the bacteria would breed faster.

I wash her properly then apply sudocreme. It usually clears up over a few days, making sure she keeps it very clean and applying sudocreme morning and night.

Hope your dd is feeling better.

piratecat · 28/04/2010 08:06

got a gp appt this morning, with OUR actual nice gp.

thanks x
