Wwyd?

Dd 3.6 has temp of 103.8, very sleepy, no appetite. Ate a weetabix yesterday but threw it up straight away. Has had nothing else to eat since fri morning and that was just a few mouthfulls of cereal. She was sent home early from preschool as she was clearly not well.

She's spent the day dozing on the sofa, doesn't want to do anything or eat, is drinking a bit. I've given her calpol which seems to bring her temp down for an hour or so but then it shoots back up again.

Docs is shut today so nhs direct or just wait and see?

I'd phone NHS Direct for advice.
Do you know that you can piggyback child-ibuprofen with Calpol? So you given a dose of something (to reduce fever) every 2-3 hours instead of every 4-6 hrs. That's a high temp for a child to just leave to run uncontrolled, would worry me, but NHS-direct should be able to advise best.

Strawberrycornetto · 27/03/2010 15:41

How is she? I would speak to NHS direct, it's always better to check with little ones.

Hi my son has been ill for over a week now. In the week his temp was 104! he hadn't eaten for a week then had a little bit yesterday, he has lost at least 2lb already. he isn't drinking hardly at all, quite worrying, but he is coming out of the other side. Saw doc on Tues but not overly concerned, no infections.

To me it has seemed like some sort of flu virus. He now has a cough not eating still or drinking hardly and complaining on and off of sore ear and wincing when coughing.........not sure how that helps you really, sorry but just so you know you are not alone. It has been a horrible weekn and nothing doc could do anyway. He wasn't concerned over the temp either and he is a lovely helpful doctor. I am taking him back on Monday though as improvement is minimal and the cough is really bothering him! He is 2 and a half btw!

I didn't use nurofen as it gives him the runs on a "normal" basis so with no food I wouldn't risk it myself. What can they do about it anyway if it is a virus?

She's fast asleep, has been since 7pm. Temp gone down so not too worried. She has really bad breath and some kind of white stuff all over her Tongue, so think I will take her to emergency doc tomorrow as I have to work Monday so can't take her then.

Herbietea and maxybrown, sorry to hear your dcs are poorly too.

OOh my DS has really bad breath too and the white tongue has been coming and going

He was like this when doc saw him too.

I am taking him Monday as his breathing is bit funny and coughing and complaining of sore ears. Had nothing to eat or drink AT ALL today til 4.30 when he had a small drink, no food whatsoever. Tis very hard so you have my sympathies. let us know how you go on

morejuiceplease · 28/03/2010 09:38

maxy, he sounds like he has an ear infection if he is holding his ear. thats grounds for out of hours to check him out today.

If it is it also means he can have antibiotics.

What do you mean his nappy would last hi all night too? is that becasue he is weeing so little?

maxybrown · 28/03/2010 17:47

Yes he is hardly weeing at all now. He isn't holding his ear all of the time though, which leads me to believe it is more sinusy and things moving around. He is much worse mornings and evenings, typical sinusy (I suffer from this myself)

His breathing is funny in that he very obviously can't breathe through his nose properly, but it does not sound snotty just completely stuffed if that makes sense, he is trying to take breaths in through his mouth kind of hard to explain

I'm not sure now, cor I feel terrible now. I am so sleep deprived it is untrue.

Thursday morning maybe? He actually ate on wed evening, a little bit of fish and some rice crispies, he also asked for a cup of milk for first time since the previous friday and had milk the next morning but like I said had a very bad nappy then and no milk since which he does usually love.

Pixie, I have just checked him now, his nappy is reasonably full (first time in a while) so think he will be ok til we see our Doc in morning. he wasn't dehydrated last week either when we took him, goodness knows how not mind

maxybrown · 28/03/2010 18:48

I just tried to get him to have a drink and he screamed like mad (he is very placid normally btw) he wouldn't have it......tis nigh on impossible
