You become more knowledgeable as you go on and aly is so right, some drs do fob you off all too easily, then move on until you find a good one.
Probably stating the obvious, but if you think the reflux is still present, make sure that your ds is upright for a long time after food to allow gravity to keep the food from flowing back.
It might be what aly said earlier, if the valve on top of the stomach (and bottom of oesophagus) has been damaged, he might need a stich.
Bear in mind that if he is not able to digest any/one of the food groups (proteins, fats or carbs), he will not absorb necessary nutrients, so apart from the mechanical side, you need to work to improve his digestion & absorption.
Apart from the list of symptoms, link them with food diary for the dr.

that probably rules out steatorrhea then. If it is green ..bile is green. Shouldnt be marbled unless he has eaten something highly coloured. If its smelly there may be a bacterial element to it or malabsorption. I do hope you get it sorted soon. you must be really worried. The NHS are so slow!!!!!

mad4myboys · 17/09/2009 07:33

i am!! It isnt that far away considering he's 10 months next week but im desperate for some answers now.

OP posts:
nightcat · 17/09/2009 09:52

make sure you have a list of questions ready

mad4myboys · 17/09/2009 20:00

when i spoke to him on the phone last i asked about digestive enzymes and he said he has requested for a stool sample when he goes in. They have never tested his poo despite me asking about it.

OP posts:
alypaly · 17/09/2009 22:34

do you knopw what he is testing poo for

mad4myboys · 18/09/2009 07:45

i have no idea! Was quite a quick convo! Guess another question to ask next week! Dont know what could show up though?

One of the poo test my ds had was for pancreatic enzymes; apparently pancreatic elastase is the measure of pancreatic efficiency (when coming off gluten, my ds developed stretch marks, which sometimes is the sign of inefficient pancreas). Was tested much later and his pancreatic enzymes were fine.
Of course, there might be lots of other tests, like how well his food is digested or if there is any blood in the stool.
Keep reading before you go that way you can have in-depth convo.
Are they keeping you in overnight?

nightcat · 18/09/2009 09:35

good concise description, wiki

mad4myboys · 18/09/2009 19:39

yeah we will be in 2 nights. He will be starved from thursday, in that afternoon, then in theatre friday afternoon, then ph study put in him and hopefully home saturday....With these tests, would something showup (if it was there) without them looking for it? If that makes sense?

OP posts:
nightcat · 18/09/2009 20:41

Don't know about all possible tests as I am not an expert, but I reckon they will be quite comprehensive so should give some clues.
If it was me, I would want to have copies of all results for my own research and of course have it all explained. I would also want to know what the future holds, short and long term - and even if they tell you something worrying, bear in mind that drs often give you the worst possible scenario.
Not long now before you get some answers, hang in there and all the best.

alypaly · 20/09/2009 18:02

alypaly · 21/09/2009 10:17

what are they doing there. More tests...or have they found out what's wrong

mad4myboys · 21/09/2009 11:04

full endoscopy, colonoscopy...?i think they are taking biopsys, he's then having full ph study to include alkaline to determine once and for all what type of reflux and they are taking poo samples for first time too...

OP posts:
alypaly · 21/09/2009 11:16

sounds like they are doing everything at long last

mad4myboys · 21/09/2009 19:36
