I am so stressed I am struggling to stay calm. Am so knackered and know that once I settle her I will have to start my mountain of work.

I feel like such a cow as I can feel myself rising to snap at her and she is not well.

I know this feeling only too well.

giraffesCantRunA10k · 26/04/2009 21:20

whats wrong with her/

onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2009 21:20

whats wrong with her? how old is she?

twinsetandpearls · 26/04/2009 21:23

She is 7 , we thought last night it was an ear infection as she was saying her ear was hurting and I could see some wax.

Today it shifted to the other ear and when we checked her tonsils were inflamed. She has had a high temperature but I have bought it down. Also some sickness and bad head. She is very very grumpy and is naturally prone to being a complete drama queen which makes it hard to guage how ill she is.

I have not abandoned her am taking a break while dp looks after her.

crying for 24 hours at 7?
think I'd have taken her to A&E

thisisyesterday · 26/04/2009 21:25

awww, poor her (and you!) do you have any medised?

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 26/04/2009 21:25

Call NHS direct and get her seen by the out of hours. Even at this age, she should get sick of crying so this much means you should get her checked out, if not for a peaceful life.

onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2009 21:26

Have a cuppa tea whilst DP takes over. I know how exhausting it is. Doctors in the morning I think.

MmeLindt · 26/04/2009 21:27

The poor wee soul. I agree with the others, do you have an out of hours doc who would come out?

onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2009 21:27

Actually...out of hours docs is needed I think!

twinsetandpearls · 26/04/2009 21:27

have called nhs direct and because her temperature is down and there are no rashes they have said to take her to the doctor in the morning.

What do you think twinsandpearls? If this is how she normally is when she's unwell then take the firm but nice approach, if you think this is abnormal then pop her to A&E and get her looked at.

fishie · 26/04/2009 21:32

twinset i had an ear infection recently and was aghast at the thought that so many children have them and are just expected to get on with it. it was fucking agony and it did come and go rather.

give her painkillers, it won't do any harm if that isn't the real problem.

twinsetandpearls · 26/04/2009 21:33

This is how she is if she is unwell, she is also bored as we have been couped up together this weekend and normally we are out all weekend.

She is a complete drama queen if she has a little fall. I am not doubting that she is unwell but do not think it is an emergency,

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 26/04/2009 21:33

Have given her painkillers, it does seem to be coming and going, she has an hour of being fine and then 2 hours of wailing.

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/04/2009 21:34

I would take her to A&E or get a doctor round. I remember when I was the same age as your DD having a bout of earache so painful that I was banging my head on the floor to deaden the pain.

TheFallenMadonna · 26/04/2009 21:34

Get her settled and go to bed. Tell your classes you are sorry, but it's going to be a bog standard lesson today and/or their books will be marked next time you take them in. I had this a few weeks back when I was in hospital with DH for the whole weekend, got home at 10pm and just couldn't do what I needed to be fully up to speed. My classes were very understanding. It helps if you aren't usually crap - which you clearly aren't.

Seriously twinset - your posts worry me at times...

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 26/04/2009 21:36

Give her a warm-hot water bottle to put under her head, dose her with ibuprofen and paracetamol at alternate intervals and see how it goes.

twinsetandpearls · 26/04/2009 21:40

Classes will have to make do, have some paperwork that has to be done but I will do it in the morning.

Not quite sure how to take the your posts worry me , but am too tired to think about it tbh.

That is what we have been doing Fluffy, I think she is now very tired which is not helping.

TheFallenMadonna · 26/04/2009 21:45

You do too much woman! You post at ungodly hours. You collapse through lack of sleep. God knows you must be doing a great job at school, but your own health...

I don't mean anything unkind at all by it. I'm just concerned.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 26/04/2009 21:46

Hot chocolate then bed? Warm milk has a sedative effect.

twinsetandpearls · 26/04/2009 21:57

She is in bed with dp now.

TFM I am the breadwinner in the house, that is stressful especially in the current economic climate when we are running 2 houses. I have taken a gamble by losing my position and a higher wage in the hope I will get that back within a year or so. My employer knows my awful health record and therefore if I am to compete on a par with my healthy colleagues I cant have down days. Of course in reality I do but I work so damn hard 99% f the time no one notices.

I dont sleep much in the week never have done. It is the only thing I have in commmon with Margaret Thatcher thank God.

The joy of teaching is there is always a holiday on the way.

I hope she gets better soon. It's not a nice life when you feel as if you can't take time off when you need it.

twinsetandpearls · 26/04/2009 22:17

It has gone all quiet so dp must have got her to sleep.
