DD 3.10yrs. Has been ill since end Nov with Flu, Croup, chest infections etc. She actue asthmatic, been in hospital over xmas. She was off preschool last week, for being quite ill, seemed okay so sent her monday morning, and all of yesterday, got a phone call this morning about 11:15 saying she has been just laying on a beanbag, not saying or doing anything, checked her temp and again its 100.4. I feel so much for her, she just can't seem to shake whatever she has got, i've spoken to docs on several occasions over dec and jan and they don't seem that bothered. TBH i'm very annoyed as shes been like this as i say since nov. Shes hardly been at school since nov with how bad shes been.

WWYD? would you take her back to GP or straight to A&E?

Telephone gp now and ask for today urgent appt
She may only have a virus, that doesn't matter, she may equally have an ear infection, bacterial chest infection, exacerbation of her asthma ,or other.
It changes and the gp needs to look at her on the day she is ill, then take her back again if she is still ill etc etc
If you feel a good examinayion and a/b if needed is ok,fine, but if you feel there is more to it than that, ask gp if she can be seen on paed ward today if he also feels there is a need.

MuppetsMuggle · 04/02/2009 12:36

MS i'm on phone to GP at the mo, have to take her in at 6pm, so he can check her - he's prob thinking her she goes again, and he did just say shes been unlucky, with this. I've got her inhalers into her, and some paracetomal suspension for her temp. I hate seeing my baby like this, i feel so helpless

OP posts:

well done mm
put some jammies, joggers toothbrush and slippers in a bag just in case
Emphasise to gp the teacher sent her home v concerned and where is the infection, please?
If she does not have a cold, they must look for secondary infection in chest ears etc
Give her plenty of orange/ribena and water, light food like toast, sit on sofa with books/cbeebies
Has she got sore ear, cough, out of breath, tummy ache etc?
Don't forget to ask him what's wrong, and if he says a virus ask him when you need to go back[if temp still high etc]
fwiw my ds has asthma and allergies and one cold lasts 3 weeks when the next begins, cos the asthma and allergies make the mucus thick and the illness longer.
she will be ok,but be confident in your right to be concerned about her~don't worry about what the gp thinks,he doesn't want to miss anything serious either.

MuppetsMuggle · 04/02/2009 13:09

MS - Shes had a small glass of water - thats all shes wanted all day, i've just poured her a fresh cup of orange juice.

She has got a really bad chesty cough, she has glue ear too which doesn't help.

we seem to be making so many trips to GP lately.

OP posts:
morningsun · 04/02/2009 13:13

don't worry about it ,its becos she's not well.
Is she already on a/b for chest becos asthma makes bacterial chest infection more likely[needing antibiotics]

MuppetsMuggle · 04/02/2009 13:22

shes not long come off of steriods prednizone (sp?) shes eating a rich tea biscuit at the moment.

OP posts:
morningsun · 04/02/2009 13:24

the steroids reduce the asthma/inflammation but don't do anything for infection she may need antibiotics today if shes not on any

MuppetsMuggle · 04/02/2009 13:38

shes not on anything, I just feel same old saying if they are not suer whats wrong its a virus and can't presribe antibiotics if its a virus. I might ask if i can have a letter to take to paedatrics at the hospital so she gets seen asap.

OP posts:
morningsun · 04/02/2009 13:44

well if she has a bad cough,a temp, and any crackles in her chest she should have a/b,unless shes just finished some within days.
ask for paed referral for chest as well as relevant treatment today,or if shes really poorly still,to be seen on paed ward/clinic asap this week

MuppetsMuggle · 04/02/2009 13:49

thanks MS - i'll do that ask for a paed referral.

OP posts:
morningsun · 04/02/2009 13:54

morningsun · 05/02/2009 15:00

is she having blood test as well as urine sample?

morningsun · 05/02/2009 15:11

am glad shes better today has she started a/b yet
my ds took a huge whack on the head/nose so hate messing around ,prefer to take him straight away rather than waiting.its still quite painful today and don't know if broken as don't x ray nasal bones so i'm worried about him rubbing it etc

MuppetsMuggle · 05/02/2009 17:22

MS - shes got to do both the urine and blood, and maybe further tests. . shes started amoxicillin today.

Sounds painful, i'm sure your DS will be a little careful for a few days, hopefully its not a bad break!

OP posts:
morningsun · 05/02/2009 22:10

poor you and your dd,and its worse when you know about it in advance [worry wise]
but the staff are used to it and they won't do anything unnecessary
has she had blood test before?
good luck tomorrow

MuppetsMuggle · 06/02/2009 09:54
