DS is having his tonsils and adenoids out tomorrow - eek! Feel sick with worry already. Op has been cancelled twice already as he hasnt been well enough to have it done but I think they may well do it tommorow. He isnt 100%, has a horrid wet cough, but then he always has that. Hospital have just rung and done admission details over phone, as well as confirming his ward bed and HDU bed for afterwards.
Elibean, isnt your LO's op tomorrow too? How are you? DS is blissfully unaware, is yours?
How long have you been told you will be in?

could vomit thinking about it

OK, its come down to 37.1 now...guess the Voltarol is kicking in. Phew.

Its going to be a long night! Hope your ds is ok tonight, Lubbly. How's yours, Ali?

rempy · 14/01/2009 21:55

Ah thats a bit rubbish. Sounds like you have a plan though.

Elibean · 14/01/2009 21:57

It is a bit, Rempy - big teaching hospital, busy ward (new wave of RSV now cold snap is over).

alibobins · 14/01/2009 21:59

No improvement really on a course of prednosolone and abs but at consultant next wed so think its time to get tough He's looking sickly now and what I thought was a swollen gland is some sort of cyst.
Glad her temps coming down and fingers crossed for a healthy happy dd

Elibean · 14/01/2009 22:03

Do. Get tough, I mean.

dd's resps seem so fast....32-40, I counted

aznerak · 14/01/2009 22:05

elibean, I replied on your thread in general health xxx

alibobins · 14/01/2009 22:05

They can breathe faster when they are warm. Hope you manage to get some rest I bet the last few days have been tough
I'll check in in the morning.

Elibean · 14/01/2009 22:08

Months

And I know you know how that is

Aznerak, thanks, I replied to your reply there too!

alibobins · 14/01/2009 22:10

Yeah months lol maybe even yearshopefully this time next week you will be on here saying how much the op has changed your lives

Elibean · 14/01/2009 22:17

I think I will, in a couple of weeks...we have some sleep and food training to do first

Temp down to 36.7, phew, at least it responds well to Voltarol!

lubblyjubblies · 15/01/2009 09:17

morning, what kind of night did you have? DS was very restless, waking properly at 3.30 a very unhappy bunny. He was very warm but put up an almighty battle against having calpol. Eventually he let his sister give it him, bless her, shes only 4 and all his screaming had woken her too. He is now laid on the sofa looking into outer space. His temp keeps coming up and his face looks very hamster like around jawline. He has eaten though, and had some juice, but just so strange seeing him still. Not a regular occurance with him.
Hope you had a decent night, x

Hope you had an okay night

Elibean · 15/01/2009 12:07

Thanks, Ali

Poor ds, Lubbly...how high are his temps going? dd's went down to normal at 9.30pm after Voltarol, but went up to 38.5 when the meds wore off at 4am. She was shaking and crying, horrid. Gave her Voltarol an hour early again, and tried to get her ABs into her but she vomited them back up whilst coughing.

Her temp came down to normal again, so we went back to sleep and took her to GP this morning first thing. GP said chest clear, ears ok, already on ABs (she took them ok this morning) so lets ring ENT but prob ok to wait it out.

ENT unreachable, so I called HDU just now who said (not surprisingly) bring her into A&E to be checked, thats a bit high for a temp etc. Her temp is now normal when BOTH meds are due so we're holding off and talking to GP again later but....what would you do?!???

She did eat a bit this morning, and played..but is miserable now as tired and in pain, and only just had paracetamol.

Lubbly, hope your ds feels better by tonight - its a slog for them, isn't it?

alibobins · 15/01/2009 14:59

Hows Dd now Elibean? Hope you haven't had to go off to A&E

Elibean · 15/01/2009 16:10

Not yet, thanks Ali....spoke to GP who spoke to ENT consultant, who said what I felt really. If she's got high temps that don't respond to the antibiotics, if she's floppy/not drinking or playing etc then back to hospital to be seen.

Basically, for tonight: any worse, back to A&E. Any better, we're fine. Much the same over next 24 hours, back to GP to assess and maybe try different antibiotic.

She's had a 3.5 hour nap and is pale and tired, and grouchy, but is watching TV with her sister and eating a bit of bread...will worry if she's no better tomorrow.

I think she has a virus: nose is running!

Elibean · 15/01/2009 16:11

How's ds now, Lubbly?

lubblyjubblies · 15/01/2009 17:21

similar to your DD. Very grumpy and tearful. Giving drugs as soon as they are due etc but he still seems like he's getting a fever as meds wear off. He has green snot still and chest noisy. Will not be surprised if he gets a chest infection. It is worrying though as his o2 levels were max 96% dropping to 92 every few mins with a drop to 88% thrown in for good measure every now and again. Dread to think what they will do if he starts wheezing badly too
Its hard to know whats "normal" recovery isn't it? Oh well, heres to another broken night no doubt x

Elibean · 15/01/2009 20:34

lubbly

dd's sats were much the same, fwiw, though if I waved the O2 under her nose it went up to 98/99 as long as her position was ok.

I'm surprised your ds isn't on ABs, given the op plus his tendency to chesty things? dd is on Augmentin for a week, which is giving her the runs and is probably why she threw up last night...but at least it covers most nasties, bacteria-wise.

We've had no fever all day, but its up again tonight...about 37.4 atm, but Voltarol not due till 9.30 at least, and she had paracetamol supp at 6.30. I think she has a virus - fever at night, not during day, drinking ok (though off milk tonight) and eaten a few mouthfuls of varying foods, up and down, sounds viral, no?

Hope your night is better than you expect, they do say the first two days are the worst in terms of unwellness and swelling...

Elibean · 15/01/2009 20:35

btw, dd sounds wheezy, high up in her chest - but GP said its clear. Hope same for your ds (wondered if dd had irritation from the bronchoscopy though...no idea, really).

How high is his temp going?

lubblyjubblies · 16/01/2009 07:21

Well, DS is up and playing and thats before his meds. He woke quite often in the night but went straight back each time. He looks so much brighter. He has just gone in kitchen to pick his cereal and seems like he intends to sit and eat properly, rather than be fed all cuddled up like past few days.Hopefully this is the worst over.
DS had a bronchoscopy last year with a lavage and they told me fever and wheezing were not uncommon following this procedure. Only just remembered this, but could explain your DD's fever and wheeze.
DS's temp is normal this morning, but his breath is hideous still.
Hope DD is a little brighter today x

Elibean · 16/01/2009 08:35

I'm glad to hear that, lubbly - must be big relief

dd had much lower fever last night, never wen tover 37.4 and that only for half an hour. But she had a far worse night pain-wise, wheezing and coughing (yes, prob the bronch, thanks for that) and her throat v v sore. Less sleep than night before, and won't eat or drink milk - though is taking ABs in little milk, and sipping ice water a lot.

I hope she has her bounce back later, or tomorrow, like your ds!

Its a big help chatting daily about them, dh still thinks its amazing I met someone else going through exact same thing same time

Elibean · 16/01/2009 15:43

ok, she had a nap (me too) and took Calpol in some iced water afterwards: first time, had to be pr till now. Now she's eaten several grapes, half a sausage, and half a chocolate biscuits....dare I hope?!

Hope ds still ok this pm, Lubbly.

And hope your ds ok too, Ali!

mumsobusy · 16/01/2009 16:33

Elibean and lubblyjubblies glad to see that everything went well for you even though the afterwards is bad. Hope they get well soon.

Im dreading our op tonsil and adenoids getting nervous I went to see the ward today and ds will be having his on 22nd.

Did you tell dc that they were going to have an op if so what did you say to them.

alibobins · 16/01/2009 18:36

Thats really good news Hope she continues to be well.
Ds bit misirable todaybut think he's tired.

Elibean · 16/01/2009 19:46

Ali, sorry he's miserable...hope a weekend of rest/play helps, and it IS just tiredness.

Mumsobusy, thanks...wow, you have a date! I totally understand the dread, and at the same time, I can tell you I am SO glad we've done this for her, even though I just took an hour putting a pained little toddler to bed clutching her ears, its worth it. She can breathe almost normally now, already.

Its v hard, you can't prepare a toddler really, but I did talk cheerfully about going to hospital (which she'd always quite enjoyed), about doctors taking an 'ouchy' away from her throat so she could breathe better at night, thta she'd have a sore throat afterwards but it would get better, but most of all - and possibly the only bit she cared/understood about - that Mummy would be there all the time with her, and not leave her.

The only time she was scared, I think, was when she came round from the anaesthetic and was v confused - and she won't remember that, too woozy.

How is your ds now?
