DH is on the way to A&E with DS1 (3.9) and I am in bits - anyone there?

My wonderful georgious DS1 has fell out of bed and we think may have broken his collar bone

He has been screaming the house down for the last 40 mins even with both calpol and nurofen, so DH is taking him to A&E (I can not as I have had a couple of glasses of wine for the first time in months). I am staying with DS2.

A&E is 30 mins away and he was screaming as I strapped him in the car and calling out for me, as DH pulled away and I am in tears.

My poor little man.

for you
I'm so sorry to hear about this
I hope he is painfree and back with you very soon

scrooged · 26/12/2008 00:47

It will be more shock than anything. Poor thing. These things happen, my sister broke my arm when I was three by pushing me out of the bed.

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 26/12/2008 00:47

Oh no! Really sorry to hear that.

TheGarishlyTwinkleyMadHouse · 26/12/2008 00:49

We thought that it was possibly just shock, hence the calpol and the wait, but he hadnt stopped crying at all and was insisting in us holding his sholder in a certain way.

I just hate that I couldnt go with them. Although DH is perfectly capable and DS was calling for him initially.

We have had such a fantastic day too

It's Ok. They can't do anything for a collar bone, they just pop it into a sling. It's common in children. Just think of all the fun you have had, it could happen at any time don't let it put a dampner on things.

snoopdog · 26/12/2008 00:52

positive thoughts to you and ds (and his shoulder)

TheGarishlyTwinkleyMadHouse · 26/12/2008 00:54

Oh I wont let it spoil things. I am a glass half full girly, just can not bear being on my own and not being able to DO anything waiting for the phone to ring

Thinking of you and hoping for positive news soon MadHouse

LargeGlassofRed · 26/12/2008 01:02

ah hope he's ok and they don't have too long to wait at a and e

weWITCHyouaGigglechristmas · 26/12/2008 01:21

just think tho - they will be busy driving there and then trying to get him sorted out and enough painkillers in him etc, so try not to panic and do some logical thinking about how long it will take them to get to the point where your dh can ring you and give you an update.
Poor you lot - such a shame, whenever it happens but at the end of a lovely xmas day...

Judy1234 · 26/12/2008 01:29

Poor him. I hope all is well. They are very good at triage and seeing people according to urgency at A&E so hope there wasn't too long a wait.We have a minor injuries clinic near us which is brilliant and much quicker than A&E which cn be used for things like broken collarbone etc. Always worth seeing if you have one near...last time I was tehre I couldn't walk after pulling a muscle at a sports day mother's race which will teach me for thinking I was one of the fittest mothers...

vixma · 26/12/2008 01:32

Have you heard any news yet?

breakfastinbed · 26/12/2008 01:39

Really awful for you not being able to be there with him i know. You'll be cuddling him soon and I bet one day he will proudly tell the story of his christmas day tumble...

christmasteafortwo · 26/12/2008 01:41

Hi Madhouse,

Oh ... your poor son and poor you.

Thinking of you lots!

  • Hey.... please keep us updated on how things develop.

Remember Yorkshire lads are made of strong strong stuff!

TheGarishlyTwinkleyMadHouse · 26/12/2008 02:14

Just had a call, they are on their way home. He is OK, they have x-rayed and all OK. They think it was shock and that the painkillers have kicked in.

No minor injuries any closer open tonight - I checked. Thats the thing with being out in the sticks.

Thank you all for being here with me and hope you all had a fantastic Christmas day/

Oh good! that's a relief for you. Sleep well!

TheGarishlyTwinkleyMadHouse · 26/12/2008 02:52

They are home - he is wide awake and sore.

I have cuddled him lots and lots and we are all off to bed now in the hope we can get some sleep before DS2 (2,6) wakes up at 6ish

Glad he is a bit better. And lol at XENIA injuring herself in the mother's race

ChipButty · 26/12/2008 09:09

Glad all okay. My DD broke her collarbone earlier in the year and they do mend quickly in little ones but glad you don't have to go through the trauma. Hope he's okay this morning.

pantomimEDAMe · 26/12/2008 09:11

phew! Think that's what my mother used to mean when she talked about us putting grey hairs on her head...

Haribolicious · 26/12/2008 09:18

Just read this, glad he's ok and you can relax a bit Glad he's home now and you're all together. Have lots of cuddles today and take it easy.

TheGarishlyTwinkleyMadHouse · 26/12/2008 09:28

Thanks for all the thoughts, I know wxactly what you mean re the grey hairs

DS1 is doing really well considering DH only managed to get him off to sleep at 5.15am and DS2 had them both up at 7am

Thanks again

TMH! how has he been today?

reindeercantdancethetango · 27/12/2008 00:24

Glad its not broken

TheGarishlyTwinkleyMadHouse · 27/12/2008 21:57

well guess what - he has been in pain, but happy for the last two days. But I just knew he wasnt right, so I took him back to A&E tonight (he couldnt raise his arm to get his PJ's on without screaming) and they x-rayed it and it is broken

So we need to go back on monday, as it is a raised fracture - my poor brave boy.

He is currently sat with his daddy and has asked for some chips.
