Today he has a temperature, says he aches and his eyes hurt. He is alert thought less energetic than usual. Is this normal after these Boosters? Never really known him to show any reactions after immunisations before. A bit worried.

Very normal, give him some paracetamol. Can have ibuprofen and paracetamol if very grumpy. Make sure you time dose of one or other for bedtime. Will only last a day or two.

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 12/12/2008 12:59

It is winter - lots of bugs about so it could just as well be that as anything else. Rempy's advice is good - just hang in there.

FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 13:01

Oh Thank you very much. DH is charging around shouting about calling out Doctors and Emergency appointments, bless him. The Nurse didn't warn us about side effects and he has never reacted before. Feel a bit better now. Thanks.

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 12/12/2008 13:11

My non-medical opinion is that if he hasn't reacted before it's very unlikely to be that now. A bug on the otherhand is all too likely at this time of year - does he go to nursery/playgroup? Do you know if any kids from there are off sick? Might reassure your dh to know that?

FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 13:17

He is at school already (not today obviously). Sure there are probably some kids off sick. He is a bit more lively now after a dose of Calpol. As long as he is responding to that then I won't worry too much.

thenewme · 12/12/2008 13:18

What is the injection site like?

FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 13:44

Both sites look fine. No swelling or anything.

OP posts:
thenewme · 12/12/2008 14:02

That's good.

Keep an eye if it goes red and the size of the rash, if there is one.

dinny · 12/12/2008 14:09

unsurprising he's had a reaction give the huge amount of vaccines that have just been put in his body

hope he's ok

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 12/12/2008 16:09

Dinny - how is your post supposed to help the op? It's not known if her child has had a reaction to the vaccine or is just off colour.

dinny · 12/12/2008 17:15

mmm, sorry, not paricularly helpful - was just trying to say it's not a surprise he's feeling rough

noiamnot · 12/12/2008 17:18

feckin hell! all that at once??????

noiamnot · 12/12/2008 17:19

before anyone points it out to me I realize that isn't helpful but

why would you let anyone inject all that into your child at once? How old is he?

believer07 · 12/12/2008 17:33

I think its the normal thing these days as you have the 5 in 1 and the MMR. Be thankful that you are not in the USA as they get up to five needles on the 2,3,4 injections on one visit.

Boosters for the most part are just a safe gaurd anyway for a small percentage of people.

What worries me is that I once read a story of a little girl who got the MMR and her parents did not know that she was in the process of brewing chicken pox, well the body could not cope and basically the combination of the two killed her. Just because a child looks well,it might not be well.

I have a big problem with vax anyway, but I would not give anymore than one at a time and indeed I would not
even bother giving some of the at all.

When does the body ever come accross 7 diseases at one time. They don't know enough about the immune system. A hundred years ago they would be draining you of your blood in order to let out the bad blood that was causing your problems, now they are injecting your blood with stuff to try and prevent you from getting ill. It's kind of worrying.

OP I would seriously consider boosting your child with some good quality vitamins.

believer07 · 12/12/2008 17:36

I realise that my post indeed might not have been helpful, people just can't give the kind of reasurance that people want.

Sorry about the girl story thing, probably not the best thing to say.

noiamnot · 12/12/2008 17:37

yes. good idea. And echinachea and lots of vitamin c.

Cod Liver oil as well as it is high in Vit. A (measles)

FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 18:18

noiamnot - He is 5 nearly 6 and my understanding was and is that this is a standard vaccination. It is his pre school booster and we waited an extra year before he had it. Thanks for making me feel like complete shit by the way. I am trying to do the best for my child and felt bad enough that I had delayed it for this long.

I am pretty sure I am not alone in allowing my child to have this standard pre school booster.

Thanks for the ideas about vitamins will definitely take that on board. However the rest of your accusatory, blaming post has left me in tears, scared to death and feeling like the worst mother in the world so thanks for that.

OP posts:
FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 18:19

Believer07 thanks for that horror story. I cannot believe I came on MN to get decent advice and reassurance and got that.

OP posts:
dinny · 12/12/2008 18:20

but lots of people choose not to give the standard vaccinations. you asked if it was a normal reaction and people are saying yes, probably, given the injections he has had

FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 18:26

Didn't need the horror story or the shocked emoticon asking why ANYONE would allow that to be given to their child as though I am some kind of neglectful parent Dinny. I was doing what I thought was the best thing for my son. He is ill and apparently it is all MY fault.

OP posts:
dinny · 12/12/2008 18:36

no-one is saying you are neglectful, but commenting on vaccination schedule

I'm sorry your ds is poorly, I think I remember threads on here from a while ago that say MMR booster can cause more side effects than the first, will see if I cna find

FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 18:41

Thanks that would be really helpful. He has never reacted before so this is rather a shock. The Nurse said there would be no side affects. I delayed the booster because ds is HFA and after weighing up all the pros and cons we decided he should have it.

He is fine after Calpol or Nurofen so as long as that is working he should be ok shouldn't he? I am absolutely worried sick now.

OP posts:
smallorange · 12/12/2008 18:44

Hiya. DD1 had the same vaccinations and felt a bit peaky the next day. All her friends have had it and they are fine.

Call NHS direct for some reassurance and don't let a few, ahem, nutcases make you feel bad.
These vaccinations will help keep him healthy. You have done what responsible parents (who are lucky enough to have access to vaccines) do all over the world with no serious ill effects for their children. I have had a baby with meningitis and would take a vaccination over that any day.

Don't mean to be inflammatory but I think the whole vaccination issue should be discussed via reasoned argument and not horror stories designed to scare already anxious parents.

FleurLeChaunte · 12/12/2008 18:55

Thanks smallorange. I needed that .

OP posts:
seanbonfire · 12/12/2008 18:56

i would take a vaccination over any of these illnesses.Has anyone seen the damage polio does to a child?

my five year old had these vaccinations and i have no doubt we did the best we knew for her just like you
