How long does your 2 year old sleep....

Because mine needs loads. She goes to bed at about 7:00, sleeps until about 8:00 and needs about a 2 hour nap in the day time. She has lots of exercise and eats tons.

Most of my friends 2 year olds don't have a nap. Have tried dropping it, but just didn't work....

Total 12 hours - 10.5 hours (broken) sleep at night and average 1.5 hours nap in the day.

WobblyPig · 08/12/2008 21:02

This is soooooo unfair. My 2 year old goes to bed at 7pm then goes on to wake 3-6 times a night and is up at 5.30 am.

beeny · 08/12/2008 21:27

ilovemydog i used to be a barrister now just just a person obsessed with sleep.Wobblypig fancy joining me in my serial killing spree.

notnowbernard · 08/12/2008 21:28

DD2 is 2.4

Goes to bed between 6.30-7.00 and wakes about 7am

Has between 1-2 hr nap after lunch

ThingOne · 08/12/2008 21:35

DS2 is 2.6. He sleeps 8.15pm to (usually) anytime between 4.45am and 6.15am. He has a one hour nap in the afternoon but I let him sleep a bit longer if he naps in the morning. He is incredibly active but still needs little sleep. Sigh .... We need an absolutely knackered emoticon here. Still, he was waking up at 4.15/4/30 am for the day earlier this summer. If he sleeps as long as 10 hours at night he might have only a brief nap or none at all. This is scary.

I have found his sleep has improved as I have been able to knacker him brain wise as well as body wise. As in, lots of jigsaws and stuff needing thought. He's quite forward for his age (because the little bugger never rests and is always picking up new stuff, more sighing), though, so not possible to do sufficiently with all at his age.

ohdearwhatamess · 08/12/2008 21:36

Ds1, 2.7, has just dropped his daytime nap.

He sleeps from 7pm until about 6.15 am (5am this morning ). Dropping the daytime nap means he goes out like a light when he goes to bed, but hasn't helped him wake up any later (earlier if anything).

mejon · 08/12/2008 21:43

DD is 2.4 and is usually asleep by 7.30. She will normally wake anytime between 7 and 8am. However she does not nap during the day and hasn't done so with any regularity since she was very little. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to have a break of 1-2 hours in the day !

ThingOne · 08/12/2008 21:53

mejon - it feels good

Weegle · 09/12/2008 02:37

DS 2.6 goes to sleep somewhere between 8.30 and 9.30 (eek) at night and wakes before 7am. He has a nap once every three days or so. He does go to bed at 7.30 just not tired enough to sleep but I can't bring myself to ditch the nap altogether. It's so mightily unfair (waaaaaaahhhhhhh!) how some need so less sleep than others. And he rarely watches telly, is extremely active, frequently walks a two mile round trip (sometimes twice a day), and his favourite past time is jumping on beds/sofa cushions so it's not like he's not expending his energy. Pity I don't share his low sleep requirement.

countryhousehotel · 09/12/2008 08:20

my dd is 2 and 4 months, asleep by 8pm and up anytime betwen 5.30 - 6.30am, usually at the earlier end of that scale! Still a committed lunchtime napper - would sleep for 2 to 3 hours if left, I usually wake her after 90 mins or 2 hours if shes been up early.

Beeny i too am v. jealous of 12 hours a night sleepers but looking at what all my friends' dc's do i think what my dd does is quite "normal" if there is such a thing!!! I count myself lucky that despite early mornings she goes to bed happily each night, gets herself to sleep, mostly sleeps through until morning, and has a good nap at lunchtime (giving me a break!). Am holding out hope that once she drops lunchtime sleep we will get a bit more sleep at night..........

PerkinWarbeck · 09/12/2008 08:25

why has my 20mo DD dropped her nap?

WHY?

IT'S NOT FAIR.

tinselroundtherock · 09/12/2008 08:27

DS 2.7 sleeps from between 40mins and 2hrs in the day (about 2pm). Sleeps from about 8pm until 7am overnight. If he drops the day sleep, he doesn't sleep mors at night, but just progressively gets grumpier and more tired as the day goes on.

goodchristmasgirl · 09/12/2008 08:52

Don't know if I should post on this thread......

DD1 (2.5yrs) 6pm-7:30am and a 1-2 hr nap in the day.

DD2 (7 months) 6pm-7:30am and two 1-2 hr naps in the day.

You can all hate me. Most of my friends do .

My 2.5 yr old can go a max of 2-3 days of not having a nap in the day and she very quickly gets very grumpy and much harder work to deal with.

BexieID · 09/12/2008 10:42

Tom is 2.8 on friday and usually goes to bed at 9ish (sometimes 10 ) and is up between 9 or 10 in the morning. He can go without a nap, but he does prefer one even if it's just 5 mins in the car but he would sleep for 3 hours if you let him!

ds1 is 2.4 and naps about 1 hour during the day most days, and then bedtime 7pm. normally asleep by 730 but wakes any time from 6 onwards.

wakes earlier at the weekends as well

aikigypsy · 09/12/2008 12:42

My DD is just over a year and sleeps from 9 (or 10) at night to about 8 in the morning. I sleep most of that time, too, and she usually nurses again an hour or so after first falling asleep, once or twice in the middle of the night, and again around 6 or 7 AM. She naps 1.5 to 2.5 hours in the early afternoon, again nursing halfway through the nap.

of all those of you with the marathon sleepers and nappers.

LilRedWG · 09/12/2008 12:43

DD goes to bed at 6.45pm and sleeps until about 8.15am.

She was waking at about 6.45-7am until last week but decided that she'd drop her daytime nap and sleep longer at night.

She literally went from having a 2.5hour nap one day to refusing the next - that was over a week ago and she will not nap now. I am sad. I had to put her to be early last night at 6.15pm as she was so tired, but she slept until 7.45am.

beeny · 09/12/2008 12:53

I am finding these cases of toddlers waking at 7:45 increasingly depressing

cairns · 09/12/2008 13:05

DS1 (18m) has just dropped his morning nap and now just has a 1-2hr nap at lunchtime from 12.30/1 till around 2.30/3/3.30 (he generally chats happily to his teddy in his cot for a good 45mins to 1hr before dropping off though... which I know I am thankful for)

At night he sleeps from around 7.30ish (but again chats to himself for a while) until anytime between 6.30 and 7.30.

He is a big lad and does eat a lot and charge around a lot during the day, plus he still wants quite a lot of milk at bedtime (300ml) although have found that he still sleeps the same on 'non active days'

naomi83 · 09/12/2008 13:48

its interesting that the toddlers who go to bed later (8-9pm) tend to get up earlier. I read about this in Healthy sleep habits, healthy child (great book, highly recommend for all ages!) but didn't quite belive it. Our son sleeps 6.30/7 till 7/7.30 and i always though that if maybe he went to bed later he'd wake up later and i could have a lie-in, but was scared to mess up his routine. Maybe for all of those of you will early wakers try earlier bedtimes 6.30/7pm, and see if it helps?

katiechops · 09/12/2008 13:53

DD is 26 months and sleeps from about 7.30 - 7.30. Sometimes if we don't have to be up, she'll sleep in a bit later. On Saturday she slept until nearly 9am, so we got a much needed lie in - bliss!!

She doesn't usually manage to have a nap at nursery, even though most of the others do. Think that there are just too many things to be playing with! At home she usually manages about an hour's nap after lunch, although I suspect that may go soon .

DebiTheScotUpAChimney · 09/12/2008 14:02

I was wondering yesterday if my ds1 has too much sleep as he seems tired all the time at the moment (think that's a growth spurt though) but he does the same as a lot of your children. About 7.45-7.15 and 2 hours during afternoon. He's 2.7.
He can function fine on a smaller nap but then he'll sleep for 3 hours the next day. I think it's great and don't know how i'll cope when he doesn't nap!

honeybunmum · 09/12/2008 14:08

I am battling with my 2yr DD who wants to drop the 2hr lunch sleep but obviously can't cope without it. My DS (7mths) sleeps between 11.30am -2.30pm so if I can get her down as well I can waste time on the internet do the housework.

honeybunmum · 09/12/2008 14:10

Oh, it obviously doesn't strike out half a sentence
