I just pulled a 12 inch hare out of my baby's bottom. Is that okay?

My hair is really long and gets everywhere. I opened up ds's nappy and there were a couple of hairs. I was just pulling one out and it was a bit stuck. It was actually coming out of ds's bottom. He must have eaten it. Now I'm worried that he might get hair wrapped around his internal organs or something. Or get furballs at the very least.

Should I be worried?

Should I shave my head?

No it must have gone through - it was about 8 inches up his bum! It can't have wriggled in that far.

Glad to hear of other children suffering similarly and surviving.

Is is name Warren?

LilRedWG · 03/12/2008 11:57

Sensible answer - haven't got a clue, but been there don't that, everything seems okay. Don't stress it.

Not sensible answer -

DingDongMerrilyOnEI · 03/12/2008 11:59

haha @ hare does your baby bounce about alot on his bottom?? this could be the cause
seriously though i doubt a hair could cause much damage as it would most likely be pulled through by the poo and wouldnt get near internal organs other than stomach and bowels
xx ei xx

Ah you'll never live this down;

However,

Do check that it does not wind around his willy as it can cut off blood supply (it was one of the checks NHS Direct gave me over the phone when ds had a mysterious viral infection), so regular checks should be fine.

LilRedWG · 03/12/2008 11:59

Was it this one?

BroccoliSpears · 03/12/2008 12:01

Have you ever really really regretted starting a thread?

IAmNotHere · 03/12/2008 12:13

lol cali

Hop it doesn't happen again, BS. Still, what a tail to tell when he's older.

Now if your DS could make pink doves fly out of his ears I would be really impressed.

But seriously, my DD went through a very worrying faze of pulling out and eating her own hair and mine too. Her hair is not so long and very fine, but mine is at least 12 inches and I did find quite a lot in her nappies.

Interestingly there were a few in her nappy today, and I thought she had got over the phase, but I think she occasionally resorts to it when over-tired and anxious.

I did a lot of research into it and generally it seems that it is fine. In very rare instances when the hair eating becomes compulsive people can get a human equivalent of hair balls which can block up the system. But I doubt your son at his age will be able to get his hands on anywhere near enough hair. So not to worry, and on with the magic tricks.

MumtoCharlieandLola · 03/12/2008 13:26

What I want to know is how did Mamadiva get a bit lump of dried shit on her hair? Is her hair so long that she sits on it on the loo (or even shits on it)

Sorry

LuLuBaihasbeenagoodgirl · 03/12/2008 13:33

Aaaaaaaaaaaawgh - stoppit.

Surely her hair was dangling into a nappy during a change?

I sympathise. I have ended up literally covered in baby poo after a nappy completely failed on me and leaked everywhere when I picked DD up to go and change her. Had change of clothes for her, but not for me. I was just at the beginning of a day out, and it put quite a dampner on the whole thing.

pania · 03/12/2008 13:39

PMSL at hare.

Just echoing SpacePuppy's advice though.. if youe hair gets everywhere, do check that a stray one doesn't get wrapped around the base of his penis.

DaDaDa · 03/12/2008 13:56

Sorry.....can't....stop.....sniggering....

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 04/12/2008 00:47

Mumtocharlieandlola- Yes I shat on my own hair

Nah I was a bit miffed by that too, I was changing DS in the cringe public changing room (on my own mat may I say) and DS scratched his arse which I didnt notice and he was CAKED in shit then he grabbed at my hair and managed to get a big clump off his fingers onto my hair I assume, I then wiped his hands and forgot about my hair. Went off about my business as you do and a man pointed out very kindly infront of the whole of Argos and very loudly may I add that I had a clump of crap stuck to my head

Tortington · 04/12/2008 00:49
