darling is 20mths robust, chatty confident fellow.
Chest infection, vomiting for 9 days, 7 of those on antibiotics. Now has rapid shallow breathing, heaving chest and temp. And vomiting up calpol. Fluids ok and within himself he is still there a bit. A trooper it seems.
He got better last Friday but went downhill again sunday night Monday morning. GP advised cautious 48 hr watch but if no improvement then we were looking at a pneumonia type thing and he would need paediatric care.
I am not a panicky type at all and am so worried. He is my 3rd child btw.
Wish him luck appt at 10:40

Oh my heart goes out to you.
My middle had pneumonia at 7 months. IV antibiotics do work very fast, and he should pick up quickly if you have to go to hospital. The word pneumonia is scary in itself, - it is really a bad chest infection which responds to antibiotics.
But it is a frightening experience coupled with the impotence of not being able to make the child you love better immediately.
As lulmama says , children pick upo as quickly as they get ill.

Good luck, I hope your ds is better soon. Poor little mite and poor you.

I am sorry to hear this. My 4 yr old niece had pneumonia earlier this year. Before that I'd never heard of an otherwise well young child getting it. Apparently there are flus around that can end in pneumonia. My niece was well enough to leave hospital again after 36 hours. I hope your dear little boy recovers quickly as well.

mangolassi · 26/11/2008 08:54

Big strong healthy vibes for your ds, piffle.

And calm ones for you.

Ooh, and chocolate

Hope he gets well soon.

Dd2 has pneumonia at the same age as your ds and it is scary but once the treatment kicks in they recover quite quickly. Dd2 slept non stop for days but it did her the world of good.

IllegallyBrunette · 26/11/2008 09:19

had not has

fishie · 26/11/2008 09:19

sorry to hear this piffle, hope he has a very speedy recovery .

ledodgy · 26/11/2008 09:19

Piffle if I were you I'd skip the dr and take him to A&E now if his chest is chugging and rapid breathing he needs to be in hospital. They will be able to relieve his symptoms and xray his chest to see if it is pneumonia that is causing it. I've had this a couple of times with ds1 and it is hospital all the way. It's amazing how quickly they improve there. x

Hassled · 26/11/2008 09:21

Good luck - agree, be prepared for a stay and take too much rather than too little. Will be thinking of you.

micku5 · 26/11/2008 09:22

Piffle, my dd2 has had pneumonia 3 times and each time has bounced back. The first time she had it was very scary as I didn't know what to expect. She was on IV antibiotics (but she wasn't having any of that and managed to put a kink in the shunt) and was also the the nebulisers and O2 to help her breathe.

Admittedly she is prone to chest infections as she has a partial immune deficiency but LO are fighters!

edam · 26/11/2008 09:23

Will think VERY good thoughts for him.

Boco · 26/11/2008 10:14

Hope he's ok Piffle. My 3 year old has it for the third time in six months, all three times hospitalised, first time IV antibiotics and steroids. This time she was nebulised but steroids and antibiotics orally. It's horrid isn't it, really knocks it out of them. She's still being sick too and we're on day six.

Hope he gets better very soon, sending love.

Piffle · 26/11/2008 11:35

day 10 for us boco (hugs to your gorgeous girl btw)

Yes we are off to hopital for steroids and new antibiotics
Take enough to stay in but hopefully we can come home later.
thanks for all your messages
