DD is obviously in agony and I can't fix it. Am losing my mind.

She is sleeping now but will be awake soon. Last night she woke crying at 11, completely inconsolable and wouldn't even settle with a feed. She eventually fell asleep at half 1. Today she has been crying all day due to being tired and probably in pain too. Went to bed at 8 and was up less than two hours later inconsolable, but settled with a feed. Will probably be up soon. I am exhausted, got hardly any sleep and have a toddler to look after as well as DD tomorrow so no chance of rest. I think she's teething but I don't know, have tried calpol, ibuprofen and teething powders which have done nothing. I can't even tell if she's ill. Was thinking about anbesol but am worried it will make her mouth too numb to breastfeed. Am feeling powerless and shit. Please help

I would normally think that but the cry is definitely a pain cry. I managed to feel her gums today and there's a few big lumps so the teeth must be moving through now. She's never like this and she's always been the clingiest baby ever anyway. She's been asleep nearly 2 hours now so I'm hoping she might go a bit longer tonight. So exciting this, isn't it? I don't even need the sleep, just time to relax in the evening would do.

ah bless her teething such a lovely time sometimes !! i swear by teething powders !!
is it her back teeth they can be the worse hope you get to rest tonight

charchargabor · 03/10/2008 22:35

The teething powders have worked up to now but nothing's touching these ones. Think it's some back and front ones. She still quiet so fingers crossed I get some rest! Thanks.

Charchar, chin up love, ths stage doesn't last forever.

It's bloody awful, drains the life from one.

Plod on, and remember you are Not Alone.

charchargabor · 03/10/2008 22:43

Thanks BALD. By next week this will probably (read hopefully) be a distant memory. It's great though to be able to get support from people when you are going through it. If I hadn't posted this I'd be rocking in a corner right now.

charchar my lo is a similar age and I share your frustration (and maybe helplessness) when she cries and I am not 100% sure if it is teeth. Often the next day her little cheeks are glowing like red traffic lights and then I feel relieved that it was "only teeth" but also sorry for her because it does bother her.

We had it easy first time round with dd1.

charchargabor · 03/10/2008 22:56

It's horrible lollipop isn't it, the not knowing I mean. And it's so hard to fix too. I started getting a wisdom tooth when DD first started teething and I was so sympathetic because it was really painful. She's still asleep so far so that Anbesol must be doing something. Am enjoying mning in peace although I'm ready to jump up the whole time.

charchar our pharmacist strongly recommended anbesol for dd1 and as I mentioned before she wasn't really trouble by teething - a coincidence perhaps or maybe it is good stuff?

We also find nurofen generally more effective than Calpol.

IAteDavinaForDinner · 03/10/2008 23:04

Just a ton of sympathy from someone with a DS same age who also has a really crappy time from his teeth.

It's unbelieveably difficult (like having a newborn again sometimes) and frustrating when you can't help. I've got some stuff called Teetha recently, made by Nelsons. Doesn't seem to make much difference to DS but other recommended it very highly, might be worth a shot.

It will pass, you just have to hang on in there. Expect the worse, anything else will be a bonus then.

Hope you have a better night and she wakes up feeling a whole lot more comfortable

charchargabor · 03/10/2008 23:16

I prefer nurofen too, calpol only really good for temps I've found. Thanks for the sympathy iadfd, have some back too. This stage is awful, I can't wait til it's over. Am going to head to bed in a sec before she gets up again. Hope you all get some sleep too and thankyou.

well heres hopeing you had a good night !!

charchargabor · 04/10/2008 11:42

Not too bad actually thanks debz. She got about 6 hours in before waking up so the anbesol must have worked. Had a bit of a screaming fit in the middle of the night but settled. Anbesol is my new best friend

Glad to hear it charchar. We ourselves only had one "call" from dd2 and she settled after 20 minutes cuddling and a quick bf.

Don't lose that tube of anbesol - get a spare tube.

charchargabor · 04/10/2008 15:19

Glad your night wasn't too bad as well lollipop
