Worst Mum Ever, I hurt my baby.

Oh my god. Think I need your wise opinions on this. I did a BAD BAD THING. I'm so upset. I needed to nip upstairs to the loo, so I strapped baby into her little rock chair. I heard her start to whinge but she's going through a clingy stage, so I just shouted back to her from the loo. Then her cries started into full blow I'm Not Happy cries, but I had a "problem" so it was a min before I could get to her. On coming back, I found she'd either got out of the straps, or I hadn't done them up and she had tried to get out the chair. She was bent over one of the arms backwards at the small of her back, screaming.

I want to die. I grabbed her quick, and she stopped crying as soon as I picked her up. Should I take her to the docs for a check over? I was so damn stupid and careless, I'm distraught I hurt my baby girl, and I feel like I should give her to social services or something.

YES I KNOW I WAS STUPID. I could never feel worse than I do right now. Baby is fine, a little tired after her ordeal.

But should I take her to the docs? Will they take her away from me for being dumb?

Poor you - don't worry - as others have said here babies are very bendy .

You are NOT the worst mother ever - that title goes to me who was careless enough to allow her baby to roll off the bed twice in his first 8 months of life. Even worse I am a HV so should absolutely have known better.

If it's any reassurance my DS is now 5 and none the worse for his couple of falls.

LOL well thanks for telling me all your mishaps, I have to say some of them sounds quite funny AFTER the event - Hecate I'm looking in your direction, that's quite a catch.

DD is fine, the only effect seems to be a dislike of being alone in case she gets into troupble but she's at the clingy stage anyway.

Good idea to sticky this so other people can feel better, and lets hope this doesn't turn into a "No, I'm a Worse Mum Than You" competiton.

Oh it was! I don't think my feet touched the floor!

I just caught this movement out of the corner of my eye, looked over and saw a pair of little legs dangling in mid air

I really shouldn't be allowed to be in charge of children.

You did not hurt your baby. It was an accident and everyone on here will have a story to tell about a tumble their Lo had! We once didn't strap DS into his lie-flat car seat, lifted him over a small fencey thing on the beach and out he tumbled onto the sand. Well, he would have hit the sand if DH hadn't put his foot out in a football reflex and caught him on his foot The walk of shame across that packed beach......

I shouldn't be in charge of children either. Every single time I take my phil and ted's double down our front step I always put my bag on my shoulder first and everytime as I move the pram down the step it falls off my shoulder and clonks ds2 on the head! I always think next time i'll get my bag later but never do.

DH put DS1's 1st stage carseat on the conveyor thing for the airport X ray machine without taking him out once. The security man was on the ball though.

I remember the HV coming over, seeing my ds lying in th middle of the bed and saying "has he fallen off yet..." Also one time when I put dd on the changing mat (on the top of a small chest of drawers) turned around to do something, turned back and she was gone. Somehow she had slipped off the mat. I have no idea how, but luckily there was a beanbag directly underneath.
