My little girl has had this bumpy rash for a few months just thought it was eczema. It started on her torso but now it is down one leg and it's really mad looking brought her to GP he suspects molluscum.contagisum said you wait it out? Any thoughts

Our DC’s was exactly like this - in the same place too. It actually lasted about 18 months, then one day disappeared out the blue. Sometimes the sporsgwt more inflamed before they disappear, guess it’s an immune response. You can get things like Molludab but they do disappear on their own after a while.

Nyancat · 28/01/2026 07:28

We used molludab on it, i think it helped but who knows, it might have disappeared on its own.

Honnomushi · 28/01/2026 07:47

My daughter has this over her arm. We were also advised just to leave it to clear on its own. My GP also recommended antihistamines if it was itchy & gentle moisturiser. The spots have just started to burst & are gradually healing over. Some of them did get infected & my daughter needed antibiotic cream at that point. It's taken months for it to start clearing. I'd recommend taking daily photos of it so you can keep a record of any changes.

EnterQueene · 28/01/2026 07:51

My daughter had this on her torso and arms. We were advised to ignore it, so we did and it eventually went away - but we are talking months/years not days/weeks.

FancyPantsDressup · 28/01/2026 07:53

Yep one of mine had it. Tried everything! The only thing that made any difference was getting a q tip with a drop of Tea Tree Oil in and putting a tiny bit on the new blisters at night before bed. It made them clear up faster and dry out.
But the whole thing took about 18 months to go completely.
He was fine afterwards. No scars.

merrymonsters · 28/01/2026 07:53

It does go away by itself eventually.

Worriermummy · 28/01/2026 08:04

She has a few in her torso but they are tiny I bath her with her twin sister so that will stop but I checked her twin this morning and there seems to be tiny tiny bumps on her torso too. If they keep popping up does that start the whole cycle all over again

Make sure she doesn’t scratch, don’t share towels or wash cloths, keep clean. They will go eventually but will be there quite a while I’m afraid.

ZenNudist · 28/01/2026 08:07

Seems like her twin has it too.

You need to be cared 'popping" any that swell up because the liquid inside is contagious.

It's a very normal rash. Make sure she has her own towels. Mt dc had it but I didn't get it.

Carwash123 · 28/01/2026 08:09

Both my kids had this for nearly 2 years, it was so itchy and really bothered them and I tried everything to get rid of it. I read that manuka honey soap was good for molluscum, I bought some from Holland and Barrett’s and it got rid of it really quickly.

ParisianLady · 28/01/2026 08:19

I think we used lemon myrtle oil on my son’s. They were all over his legs, some became infected and they were impacting his day to day so we decided to try to encourage them to disappear.

Could have been a coincidence but within a few days of using the oil they went. I think it was an Amazon purchase and it had many positive reviews.

watermybegonias · 28/01/2026 08:22

Don't pop the blisters! Just let nature take its course. They last for months but don't scar.

rickyrickygrimes · 28/01/2026 08:32

My oldest had this age 5, it went on for at least a year, and yes the dr said to leave it. But when ´The Bumps’ started appearing on his little brother, I bought some molludab and went for it.

All the cures and the non intervention approach work on the same principle : at some point the immune systems réalises the virus is there and responds to clear it. However, because it’s unsightly but essentially benign, it can take a long time for this to happen. So the cures aim to irritate the skin to the point that the immune system ‘realises’ the virus is there, and responds.

When the bumps get inflamed and then burst, that’s what spreads the virus. so we covered any inflamed ones with little round plasters, to stop the infection spreading. Every night, we dabbed every single other one with molludab: the larger ones got inflamed, burst and healed. Smaller ones just disappeared. And after a few weeks they were gone. We used molludab from day one with DS2 and they never got established in the same way.

LavenderBlue19 · 28/01/2026 08:36

My son had this last year. We used Molludab and it went within about six weeks (he'd had a few spots for a few weeks initially which I thought were eczema, but then they started to spread).

They all just vanished one day, very odd. No idea if the Molludab helped but it does seem it went quicker than people who leave it.

BruisedNeckMeat · 28/01/2026 08:48

My DS Had MC for ages. There’s nothing really you can do but my GP did mention that if he were to catch a cold
or other virus it can sometimes knock it out. This is exactly what happened. Must be the immune system firing up

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/01/2026 09:30

DD had this for about a year. If you can find a distinctly bigger spot, give it a good “worry” - if you can burst it with a pin, that’s even better. This should attract your dd’s immune system to the molluscum and get on with clearing them up.

Thus is what MN told me, which appeared to work for DD anyway, on MN advice.

Worriermummy · 28/01/2026 09:42

I have never heard of this until yesterday...thanks for all the tips have ordered molludab and will go to Holland and Barrett today to get some manual honey soap or the lemon myrtle oil. Honestly thought it was ezxcema

Often parents find that Hand foot and mouth (or chickenpox...) will clear up molluscum. Basically they're all caused by viruses and they pull the immune system to the right layer of the skin and that finally clears the molluscum virus.

abathofmilkwithladydi · 28/01/2026 11:48

Be careful when they’re about to pop; my very boisterous 2 year old popped so many from bouncing about that he has little scars all over his chest now. It’s a horrible condition that lasts for sodding ages.

peachescariad · 28/01/2026 11:53

All 3 of mine had it from around 2 and it took the best part of 18 months to go. I used Sudocream on them when they looked a bit red and angry, and it seemed to work for mine. Thankfully none on their faces but there is some small scaring/pitting on their torsos, they look like chicken pox scars. They're 26, 24 and 23 now.

Worriermummy · 28/01/2026 12:00

Once they go can they come back??

Absolutely don’t do this! As a paediatric nurse I can assure you this is NOT advisable.

Same for my DS when he was about 3 (he’s 18 now) - it lasted a long time but then was suddenly gone. He can still be a bit prone to eczema but moisturises regularly & it never came back once it left.

mcmuffin22 · 28/01/2026 13:46

Molludab worked for ds and they haven't returned.

No!
Please do not do that, it will only spread infection to other people and make the spots more likely to scar.
The immune system already knows the virus is there! That’s why the spots are formed, as the immune system is fighting the virus 😊
