Toddler facial scarring

Hi.

I have a 2 year old who was playing at a friends house, and fell into the corner of her metal table which was at a funny angle.

it was a deep cut. I went to a&e and they glued it and it’s an ok job but as it was so deep it’s left a bright red indented line in his eyebrow.

I feel so awful about it. I saw the hazard and was about to ask my friend to move the table and next thing I know it has happened.

Whilst I know these things happen at the moment it’s really quite visible and I’m so worried about how it might impact his life.

if it was less deep I’d probably be much less worried, I do wish it had had stitches as I think the end result would have been more subtle.

I did meet with a plastic surgeon to discuss but as it’s only just happened he said it’s very much a case of watch and wait. He felt they did a good job with the glue so here’s hoping

My 4 year old DD had internal and external stitches on her chin/lip last Saturday under general anaesthetic after a through and through hole from falling off a swing. Obviously early days but they said we can massage with Vaseline once the scabs fall off and stitches dissolve to help with scarring.

I've got a scar on my forehead from a wound that was only closed by steri strips as we were too far from a and e. You can barely see it.
My sister had a significant injury to her chin and had to have it stitched up under anaesthetic by a plastic surgeon. She was told she might need further surgeries but she hasn't and you can barely see it at all unless you point it out.
Faces can heal remarkably well plus not the smoothest of skin and scars can hide amongst the expression lines.

They don’t really stitch any kids under 5 they don’t make the decision from an aesthetic point of view from what the scar will look like they make the decision from what will cause least trauma to the child

Wow as in tore whole thing open and still only a small scar? Their young skin is so clever isn’t it

It was a slice about 5mm long and 1mm deep….doesn’t sound much but he was only little! You could see a white scar for several years but by mid/late teens you’d not know it was there unless pointed out.
