We went to Royal Ascot yesterday and I think my daughter has gotten heat stroke or eaten something funny. She’s been vomiting on and off all night, her heart rate is really fast and she’s hot and tired. Ive been trying to make her drink loads and she’s weeing loads and sometimes feels dizzy. She’s 11. My friends daughter has also been feeling poorly and they were together yesterday. Her friend has been feeling dizzy this morning.

im wondering if we keep her well hydrated today and drinking loads more water will she be okay

I hope your daughter is doing okay? Doesn’t sound like this is something she’s eaten. Keep us updated.

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 21:38

No they said it’s definitely heat related. She’s been violently sick and is fighting off going to sleep and needing to wee but I guess that’s the fluid going in coming straight back out

Oh op I feel your pain, it's horrific when they faint isn't it? My ds10 had a severe stomach bug in January and after only 3hrs of v&d he fainted from dehydration despite drinking in between episodes. We ended up 2 nights in hospital with him, so I know how scary it all feels. I really hope that they've given her an anti-emetic for the sickness? And some Calpol to lower her fever and make her more comfortable?

Thefourth · 23/06/2025 10:32

How is she doing?

heldinadream · 23/06/2025 10:38

How's she doing today @BonnieSide?
And did you get any sleep/rest?
Sending 🫂 hugs.

BonnieSide · 23/06/2025 11:36

She’s going okay she’s slept on and off. We have been moved to the ward earlier this morning. Her blood pressure is still on the lower end and goes lower when she stands up. She is still feeling dizzy they are giving her more fluids and she’s just laying in the bed very vacant when she’s awake

I’ve managed to get a few hours sleep.

How is she doing this eve op?

BonnieSide · 23/06/2025 20:33

She’s so so. She’s developed a fever this afternoon she’s feeling horrible again and her blood pressure is down again. They’ve just taken bloods to check for sepsis but don’t know where the infection might be. They said they’ve checked the usual places but nothing yet. She’s been moved into high dependency unit x

That must be so worrying. I do hope she improves soon.

Thefourth · 24/06/2025 00:31

Thinking of you. You should make a new thread in chat or something and name It ‘hand hold dd in hdu’ or something similar and you’ll get a lot of traffic. Mumsnet can be really really helpful in times like this

PlantDoctor · 24/06/2025 00:52

Really hoping she's feeling much better soon. Hang in there. 💐

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/06/2025 00:55

Oh your poor girl. How worrying for you.

Jux · 24/06/2025 03:44

I you poor things! You must so worried. The possibility of sepsis is really scary, but it’s not always worst case, iyswim. I was in hospital with sepsis last years and though I remember nothing about it at all, I recovered with very little actual damage (I have a DNR saying they’re allowed to do whatever they can on the ward but not to send me to ICU). Your dd is going to therefore get much more treatment than I did, so the chances are that she’ll be fine.

She’s in the right place, and I hope she starts recovery really soon.

heldinadream · 24/06/2025 07:29

Oh my goodness you poor things. I know the thought of sepsis is terrifying but the vast majority of people recover, and the medics are on it, which is the most important thing.
Sending all the vibes for her recovery, and for you, too. Is your sister there?
Are you managing to leave the ward occasionally to get a break and some food? Please take care of you, too.

Realisation14 · 24/06/2025 07:40

OP, have they decided it's no longer suspected heat stroke and it's an infection they're looking for/treating with antibiotics?

Copperoliverbear · 24/06/2025 07:44

Could she have a kidney infection or something i wonder ? X

Thefourth · 24/06/2025 08:13

How is she this morning?

BonnieSide · 24/06/2025 17:27

She’s been sleeping on and off most of the day. Had a bright spell around lunch time perked up and played on her iPad for a while but had a near faint while walking to the loo earlier. The nurses said there’s a meeting about her this evening so just waiting for word back from the doctors they are talking about putting a tube in her bladder to stop her from needing to get out of bed while she’s so weak. She has a kidney infection and they have done an ultrasound of her kidneys and tummy we should also get the results back soon when the doctor comes back. her belly is a bit swollen too and cramping which is causing her to get upset. thankfully no fever today or well at highest it’s been 37.7.
her blood pressure at the moment is 71/36 and pulse is 119.

it’s been such a draining and stressful week so far. Thank you for the prayers and support
x

heldinadream · 25/06/2025 10:20

Any improvement today OP? What are the medics saying?
Sending good vibes for your DD's recovery.

Thefourth · 25/06/2025 12:37

How is she ?

Tcateh · 25/06/2025 18:35

Yes how is your daughter doing xx

Jibberjabba · 25/06/2025 22:18

Hope your daughter is feeling better today x

BonnieSide · 25/06/2025 22:18

She’s doing much better. She had a lot more brighter moments today and had a trip to the play room and outside in the wheelchair to see our dog and her siblings. They plan to take that awful tube out of her bladder tomorrow provided she keeps going forward.

they have an echo scan on her heart tomorrow and some bladder scans.

but on the whole much better day
