We went to Royal Ascot yesterday and I think my daughter has gotten heat stroke or eaten something funny. She’s been vomiting on and off all night, her heart rate is really fast and she’s hot and tired. Ive been trying to make her drink loads and she’s weeing loads and sometimes feels dizzy. She’s 11. My friends daughter has also been feeling poorly and they were together yesterday. Her friend has been feeling dizzy this morning.

im wondering if we keep her well hydrated today and drinking loads more water will she be okay

Call 111.

Nousernamesleftatall · 22/06/2025 10:21

Sounds like it. She needs to go to hospital.

StasisMom · 22/06/2025 10:21

Yes call 111 but also give her ice cream if you have it. They once told me to give some to my DD when similar. She was very pleased.

DuchessDandelion · 22/06/2025 10:21

Fast heart rate = call 999

Franklet · 22/06/2025 10:22

It sounds like it could be heat stroke. Have you taken her temperature?

I'd agree with the pp, call 111.

When I had heatstroke a couple of years ago, an hour (!) under a cool shower cooled me down.

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 10:25

Her heart rate is 126 and she’s sat on the sofa. Her temp is 38.1 I’ve just got her in her nickers I’ll give 111 a call

heldinadream · 22/06/2025 10:26

If you are getting her to drink loads it's really important that her electrolytes are replaced too. Get hold of some Dioralyte or other rehydration salts.
But please get medical attention ASAP.

DuchessDandelion · 22/06/2025 10:26

Don't take chances with heat stroke, its very serious. Heat exhaustion is fine for 111 but if you suspect heat stroke, call 999.

You're not wasting anyone's time or blocking the service, this is what it's supposed to be used for.

She's 11, shes displaying signs of heat stroke and that makes it a medical emergency. Call 999.

heldinadream · 22/06/2025 13:32

How is she @BonnieSide Did you manage to get hold of 111?

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 15:11

111 said to stay at home rest and see how she gets on. She’s stopped vomiting but still weeing loads and wet herself twice on the way to the loo. She is a bit less pale

OP posts:
heldinadream · 22/06/2025 15:23

Oh poor poppet. Has she had any kind of rehydration salts? If she's drinking loads to rehydrate it's quite important to replace the electrolytes. Otherwise things can get out of balance. Can you get hold of any, can anyone pop out to a chemist for you? All chemists will carry them and sell them over the counter, they're not expensive. I know it says for diarrhea but they are also advised in heat stroke.

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 15:42

I have given her a bottle of water mixed with dioralyte. She’s also recently stated to have groin hip and toe pain which is weird

OP posts:
heldinadream · 22/06/2025 15:52

Aches and pains might just be part of the recovery process. Good that she's stopped vomiting.
No headache?
Fingers crossed she's on the mend but ring 111 again if you're worried. It's what they're there for.

needrain · 22/06/2025 15:58

My sister was like this yesterday when she woke up.
Dizzy faint shaky feeling sick achy all over.
Today shes not to bad just tiered and achy bit of a headache.
But she's keeping up with water and avoiding the sun so indoors fan on.
Her own daughter rang her early this morning to say she woke up with the same problem.
She was at the beach all day in the heat.

If your really worried call 111.

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 15:59

Nope no headache just muscle pain and hurting down below which might be from going / wiping so much. I’ve sent DH and DS for Vaseline and more ice for her. 111 also said to put ice in a cloth under her arms, in her groin and on her neck to cool her

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 17:17

Oh bless her. Hope you get seen quickly.
Really surprised by 111 on this, I'd have expected them to say hospital straight away tbh with the symptoms/heart rate you described.

heldinadream · 22/06/2025 17:20

Oh no!
Hopefully they'll take it seriously and give her what she needs.
Take care of you, too, @BonnieSide . You must be tired and worried.
Hope she's OK ASAP.

Ruby41 · 22/06/2025 17:50

Bless her if you live near Ascot and at the local hospital in Frimley, they were amazing when my son had surgery and on recent a&e visits. Hope you and DD are been well looked after

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 19:18

She’s doing okay. Still really dizzy a lot worse since fainting. They are pumping her with bags of fluids and vitamins her heart rate isn’t so high but she’s got a pain in her chest and her blood pressure is low. She’s being kept in for the night she’s hardly able to stay awake when they’ve been prodding and poking her

OP posts:
heldinadream · 22/06/2025 19:47

Oh love her it's such an assault on your body and feelings at that age. I hope she stabilises soon.
Thanks for taking the trouble to update OP.
I hope you're doing OK and have had something to eat and drink and can get some rest, too.

DoubleShotEspresso · 22/06/2025 20:06

Am amazed 111 told you to wait, the symptoms you describe are clearly an A&E job?!
Glad you’re on way too hospital-really hope she’s okay xxx

BonnieSide · 22/06/2025 20:10

it’s very stressful my sister is coming to be with me. I’m absolutely devastated and exhausted I can’t figure out for the life of me why or how she’s gotten so poorly

OP posts:
redfishcat · 22/06/2025 20:13

This has actually made the news, as so many people have the same symptoms from attending Ascot. Look it up on the news sites.
she is now in the right place and I hope she feels much better soon.
