Night sweats and weird bruising

Title pretty much says it all

My 3 year old boy has had extreme sweating for a week . I'm talking soaking pillows and bed sheets .
He woke today with strange bruising
Didn't have it night before ( I can't remember nothing early this morning ( he had pjs on )
However upon changing him into day clothing noticed strange bruising appearing on both his arms

My child is autistic non verbal so could be that he has done to himself ( he tends to hurt himself in anger and frustration )
However to me seems strange the type of bruising

I've booked a GP appointment however they have said they don't seem this urgent so not being seen until next Friday

Has anyone's child had similar ?

Images attached to show bruising and extent of sweating

I think I would take him to hospital if the GP cannot see him urgently.

Lascivious · 13/04/2025 17:30

I would think that is urgent and he should be seen asap.

Moonshinerso · 13/04/2025 17:31

With that amount of sweating and the bruising I would take him to A&E.

Growsomeballswoman · 13/04/2025 17:33

I agree, I’d take him to a&e and ask for blood tests.

roycroppersshopper · 13/04/2025 17:36

I would think this a cause for concern and wouldn't want to wait a week to see a GP. Did you book the GP appt today? If so then who triaged it?

Growsomeballswoman · 13/04/2025 17:38

If you don’t want to take him tonight, try and get in with GP tomorrow and ask them to refer him to the hospital. They should see him the same day

Local walk in centre , they said it was more of a gp thing , so gave me a non emergency appointment for then

However I'm debating weather going to my GP tomorrow and refusing to leave until we have appointment or going to a&e tonight would be better

I would go to A&E to rule out anything sinister. Good luck

Moonshinerso · 13/04/2025 17:41

Did they see the pictures of the sweating?

Mamofboys5972 · 13/04/2025 17:43

Definitely A&E

Did they see the pictures of the sweating?

The lady glanced and said toddlers sweat ..then gave me a story about how hers used to

Told me I'm just a young over panicked parent

You only need to put child, night sweats, bruising into Google. Tell the doctor you need to be seen. I had this with DS and it was a virus but they will/should take you seriously

crackofdoom · 13/04/2025 17:48

Do those marks disappear when you press the bottom of a glass against them?

If they don't, I would book an emergency appointment with the GP. Use the phrase "non blanching rash".

ETA: if for any reason you can't get an emergency GP appointment, you'd best take him to A&E. These kind of marks should be taken seriously. They can be a meningitis symptom, although it's worth noting that both mine have had them and it turned out not to be meningitis. But it was taken extremely seriously at the hospital.

Silly cow 😡

outofofficeagain · 13/04/2025 17:58

The lady should not have said that.

I would go to A&E and ask for blood tests.

They don't disappear with glass

Deciding to go to a&e tonight instead of waiting until the morning

Just got to wait for family member to collect my youngest son

You sound like an amazing mum 😊

outofofficeagain · 13/04/2025 18:04

I hope it all goes well.

I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about but absolutely cause for urgent investigation.

Good luck!

I think you're doing the right thing. Hope the wait isn't too long.

I kind of forgot it was a Sunday when I advised you to get an emergency GP appointment earlier. (Of course most children's health emergencies happen on Sundays or Bank Holidays don't they!)

roycroppersshopper · 13/04/2025 18:18

Toddlers do sweat, but only you know if this is normal or not for your child. Sudden onset of sweating, coupled with bruising would make me want to be seen ASAP. You're doing the right thing. Good luck at A&E, hope the wait isn't too long.

Moonshinerso · 13/04/2025 18:56

You’re doing the right thing. I hope that they take you seriously and then you are given reassurance that he’s ok.

TokyoSushi · 13/04/2025 19:03

You’re doing the right thing, hope everything is ok, make sure to show them pictures of the sweating.

StampOnTheGround · 13/04/2025 19:25

Well done OP, you are doing the right thing - I hope you get seen quickly in A&E and all is okay x
