Someone please just give me some hope I’m so stressed I can’t function , my 10 year old since sept has had a limp in one leg then it became a weekness in his arm and hand on the same side , doctor was useless and made me do it as two separate issues and make another appointment!!! Didn’t take me seriously and Had X-ray on hips all fine (obviously 🙄 ) I went to see another doctor who said im referring it for urgent peadeatric appointment (great so helpful ) and he wanted to refer for mri but couldn’t , appointment comes thro and it’s in fucking June !!!! And that’s a urgent referral , in the mean time it’s got worse and now he can’t run and often stumbles and falls doesn’t use the arm hardly at all , have taken him back and they’ve now booked a mri brain scan for next weekend , which happens to be on his birthday of all days 😭 he’s mental health is shit as is mine and he’s obviously worried , how long does a brain mri scan take please ? And has anyone ever experienced issues like this and it not be something life threatening, I also have a toddler so am still having to be normal and do normal stuff where as I just want to lay in bed and cry

For what?
OPs son has had his MRI and has a tentative diagnosis. Treatment will be the same now whether nhs or private (and I’d wager the nhs consultants are more expert in this area)

Most NHS consultants are also private consultants - so therefore NHS consultants are unlikely to be more expert, they are most likely both NHS and Private.

Dear child now has a diagnosis and I’m sure they will move quickly to secure any possible treatment.

So sorry to read your updates OP, what an awful shock, hoping that your boy gets the best care possible and you are supported too

Topsyturvy78 · 27/02/2025 21:34

My daughter's basic MRI only lasted about 10 minutes. She has had two 3D MRI the doctor wanted to look at all areas of her brain. They took about 45 minutes. It depends on circumstances. When she had the first 3D one. The child before her was longer than expected. Someone came out and apologised for the wait. DD had to be put under so hadn't had breakfast.

Blinkingbonkers · 27/02/2025 21:34

Oh @YourRubyMaker - a hug and handhold from me too. Nothing you can do but keep going, sending you strength & hope.

moonsunandstars · 27/02/2025 21:34

Sending you lots of love.

Just wanted to tell you that my friend, who is a very healthy and thriving 35 year old, survived childhood cancer (and hers was serious).

She even was able to get pregnant against all odds (the doctors said she would never be able to bear children after the chemotherapy she had as a child).

Just wanted to let you know there is so much hope and positive stories out there xxx

wandawaves · 27/02/2025 21:35

Trying not to break down in front of my son is so hard too , my partners at home with the toddler in bits

Just wanted to come on and say just because it’s a brain tumour doesn’t mean it’s the end.
My daughters friend was diagnosed with a brain tumour in reception. She is now in year 6 and in remission doing amazing.

A friends son was also diagnosed aged 14. He is now 17 and also in remission doing amazing.

My best friend was diagnosed 3.5 years ago. Hers is stable and she is doing amazing.

There are SO many different types of brain tumour. Some are benign. Some are not. Will keep everything crossed that your sons is a good outcome. Stay positive. There is life after brain tumour diagnosis

Seeingred70 · 27/02/2025 21:43

I am so sorry to hear this. I am going through something similar. There is a topic on Mumsnet on children with cancer. You probably won’t want to read it now, but if you need to feel less alone, maybe have a look - or DM me. I know only too well how you will be feeling - and there are others who do too, unfortunately. Sending you love, strength and solidarity.

Loloj · 27/02/2025 21:43

So so very sorry to read your update OP. Praying for the best outcome for you and your DS. Thank god you know what it is now and can start to get treatment. No more waiting. All the luck in the world to you both and strength and courage for the journey ahead. Maybe someone can recommend some child cancer charities to help OP give this news to her son? Poor Mama. My heart breaks for you all.
