Someone please just give me some hope I’m so stressed I can’t function , my 10 year old since sept has had a limp in one leg then it became a weekness in his arm and hand on the same side , doctor was useless and made me do it as two separate issues and make another appointment!!! Didn’t take me seriously and Had X-ray on hips all fine (obviously 🙄 ) I went to see another doctor who said im referring it for urgent peadeatric appointment (great so helpful ) and he wanted to refer for mri but couldn’t , appointment comes thro and it’s in fucking June !!!! And that’s a urgent referral , in the mean time it’s got worse and now he can’t run and often stumbles and falls doesn’t use the arm hardly at all , have taken him back and they’ve now booked a mri brain scan for next weekend , which happens to be on his birthday of all days 😭 he’s mental health is shit as is mine and he’s obviously worried , how long does a brain mri scan take please ? And has anyone ever experienced issues like this and it not be something life threatening, I also have a toddler so am still having to be normal and do normal stuff where as I just want to lay in bed and cry

Yes I think that’s what it was but just found it strange they didn’t say they were going to do it beforehand , thanks very much

I was going to say before your further responses they will use a contrast dye halfway through as they have found something sinister while scanning, on the plus side they’ve now found it and can figure out how and what to remove, I wish you all the best of luck with it all and hope they can manage to remove it successfully xx

MummyJ36 · 27/02/2025 20:45

OP you have been the best mum to him, fighting his corner and getting him the scan months earlier than booked and not being fobbed off. You should be so proud of yourself, even though the result is heartbreaking, please stay strong that you have done so right by him. He will now be in a position to receive the best care. I’m sending you lots of love xxx

Whatsitreallylike · 27/02/2025 20:47

As a mum I just can’t imagine how you must be feeling. I’m so sorry to read your update ❤️ I hope treatment is fast and effective. Wishing you and your son all the best x

SunshineRose12 · 27/02/2025 20:47

So sorry to read your update. Thinking of you and your family x

Tiredofallthis101 · 27/02/2025 20:48

Oh OP I'm so sorry - at least now you know what you're dealing with but so upsetting that the medical professionals you were dealing with didn't get their act tigether and realise the situation sooner. Hopefully they will be able to advise you on next steps and treatment soon. In the meantime hold your boy and enjoy him, they are so precious.

HarlotOTara · 27/02/2025 20:49

OP,
We went through something similar when my dd was 18 months old. Wait and see what the specialist hospital says. I was told my dd’s tumour was malignant after the original scan but thank God it was benign Try and take it one step at a time and don’t think too far ahead. You have had an awful shock.

My daughter is 27 now. It took a year for my GP, health visitor and anyone else to take me seriously about her symptoms, her left leg and arm were affected by the time she was diagnosed.

I imagine treatments are even better now. Take any support 5hat is offered. My heart goes out to you.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/02/2025 20:50

Well done for pushing this @YourRubyMaker Im so sorry to read it is a tumor.

I really wish you all the very best.

JustMyView13 · 27/02/2025 20:51

OP I am so sorry it wasn’t better news. Trust your instincts throughout the days and weeks ahead. Your son is so lucky to have you in his corner advocating for him. You’ve pushed and pushed so hard to get to this point and give him the very best chance. The NHS can be frustrating - as you’ve seen -when you’re trying to get the right test, but it is incredible once they know what they’re working with. Sending you lots of love & hugs xxx

You fought so hard for your son and you got him an earlier MRI you must be exhausted and you’re in shock. Try and eat and then find out the next steps. Good luck.

bradypuss · 27/02/2025 20:57

Someone else sending hugs

I’m so sorry you weren’t taken more seriously at the outset and that you’re faced with such a terrifying diagnosis.

I can only imagine the fear that you mist be feeling, I hope the coming days bring some positive news about treatment.

NameChanges123 · 27/02/2025 21:01

I’m so sorry OP. You’ve had such an awful time.
About 25 years ago my nephew was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He’s now nearly 30 and although he’s had one or two minor hiccups along the way, he’s fine. Treatments will be so much better now. One day at a time. X

crackfoxy · 27/02/2025 21:06

I'm so sorry OP. Thinking of you all x

Violetmouse · 27/02/2025 21:06

I just want to send a huge hug - I had a very similar experience when my little girl was 6, including them pausing the MRI to give her contrast without having planned to do that beforehand, and that was when I knew if was going to be bad news. Anyway, she's now 11, has been through chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and she's doing brilliantly. It's an incredibly tough time but there can be hope, and I hope there will be hope for you guys.

Katyrosebug · 27/02/2025 21:06

Hi op, my mum had a brain tumor removed last year and had similar issues getting scanned before she found out about her. It's been a very scary process but I just wanted to say that foe her it's all over ans done with and surprising once the tumour was removed she was up and walking literally days after and out of hospital within 4 days, walking around the supermarket etc.. it's surprising how quick they recover from the op and it wasn't that long either. If you have any questions let me know

crumblingschools · 27/02/2025 21:07

I’m so sorry @YourRubyMaker 💐
