Someone please just give me some hope I’m so stressed I can’t function , my 10 year old since sept has had a limp in one leg then it became a weekness in his arm and hand on the same side , doctor was useless and made me do it as two separate issues and make another appointment!!! Didn’t take me seriously and Had X-ray on hips all fine (obviously 🙄 ) I went to see another doctor who said im referring it for urgent peadeatric appointment (great so helpful ) and he wanted to refer for mri but couldn’t , appointment comes thro and it’s in fucking June !!!! And that’s a urgent referral , in the mean time it’s got worse and now he can’t run and often stumbles and falls doesn’t use the arm hardly at all , have taken him back and they’ve now booked a mri brain scan for next weekend , which happens to be on his birthday of all days 😭 he’s mental health is shit as is mine and he’s obviously worried , how long does a brain mri scan take please ? And has anyone ever experienced issues like this and it not be something life threatening, I also have a toddler so am still having to be normal and do normal stuff where as I just want to lay in bed and cry

Thinking of you both and wishing you all the love and strength in the world to get through this

EdithBond · 02/03/2025 20:54

Hi @YourRubyMaker, have been thinking about you today. So pleased you have accommodation now. Can you move in tomorrow? Might be worth going for a long walk in the sunshine tomorrow morning, to really tired yourself out physically, eat lunch, followed by a long afternoon nap or bed-rest. Then you won’t be so tired when he’s out of surgery. Easier said than done, though.

With updates, in case it’s helpful, my DS had emergency surgery for something else. They told me it’d be about 2hrs, I had no info by 3hrs and was getting worried. In the end it took over 4hrs and the surgeon called when it was over. I waited in DS’s room on the ward, but no updates, even via the nurses station, who tried to find out. I guess every hospital and surgery is different. But don’t be alarmed if they don’t update you. It may have to be the surgeon who has to let you know and they obvs can’t do that during surgery.

Tomorrow will be such a tough day. Sending strength ❤️

Lougle · 02/03/2025 20:56

I hope you sleep tonight @YourRubyMaker . Tomorrow will be a long day but it marks the start of your DS's recovery.

I've just made a donation to the Ronald McDonald charity, posts like these remind you how anyone could end up needing these services.
I'll be thinking of you and your family tomorrow and hoping for the best outcome xx

FlippityFloppityFlump · 02/03/2025 21:20

I feel so sick with worry already

Of course you do! But he's been living with this for a while, and it's affecting him. You've been trying to get him help, and you've been pushed around from place to place. Now you're in the right place, at the right time, with the experts who can help him.

GildedRage · 02/03/2025 21:43

another virtual hand hold. my dh had brain surgery about 20 yrs ago now.

scoobysnaxx · 02/03/2025 21:52

@YourRubyMaker OP do you have a plan for tomorrow? I cannot imagine what you must be thinking and feeling right now. I know you probably just want to stick around the hospital but please listen to them when they say to do something else. Even for a while. Even if you can't focus. Just DO something. Any distraction. Walking, music, exercise even though I'm sure you're so exhausted. Find a way to channel that nervous energy as much as you can. We're all thinking of you xx

Clariceamelia · 02/03/2025 21:53

Hoping for everything good for you and your boy tomorrow...its a big and important step, and its the start of getting him well....scary awful, I know, but it is the step towards the future....wishing you love, strength and all you need to get through.....

LifeisRandom · 02/03/2025 22:06

Thinking of you and your precious boy as he goes for his op tomorrow. I really hope you are able to find something to distract you even if only for short bursts at a time.

Hoping this post also doesn't get full before you're able to give us an update. Praying it is a positive one xx

Have the doctors not been around after the MRI and told you anything? You said a day ago you were waiting on them to speak with you after the MRI.

legosnowqueen · 02/03/2025 22:07

All the best for tomorrow OP, thinking about you & your lovely boy x

Aurorali · 02/03/2025 22:08

I feel so sick with worry already

I’m so sorry @YourRubyMaker - it’s totally understandable. You’re so bloody brave. Tomorrow is going to be difficult but it will pass and your boy will be through it this time tomorrow.
I was wondering if you could go home for a bit tomorrow? See family? Would someone come and collect you?
someone has posted about hotels doing day rooms. Could you take a mild sleeping tablet and have a sleep?
Sending lots of love and will be thinking of you your DH and of course your boy xx

lifeturnsonadime · 02/03/2025 22:16

OP I have you and your DS in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry you and your family are going through this Flowers

Scutterbug · 02/03/2025 22:17

All the best for tomorrow. I hope you can find some distractions throughout the day x

mismomary · 02/03/2025 22:19

I totally understand that you are sick with worry but try on focus on the strength you will need for your beautiful boy's recovery. Think of tomorrow as a job you must do to help your boy. Your job is to recuperate, sleep, eat, so you are at the top of your game when he comes round.

Panda8383 · 02/03/2025 22:40

I hope everything goes the best possible way with your boys surgery, thinking of you and your family 🥰 xx

WeightLossGoal2024 · 02/03/2025 22:46
