Someone please just give me some hope I’m so stressed I can’t function , my 10 year old since sept has had a limp in one leg then it became a weekness in his arm and hand on the same side , doctor was useless and made me do it as two separate issues and make another appointment!!! Didn’t take me seriously and Had X-ray on hips all fine (obviously 🙄 ) I went to see another doctor who said im referring it for urgent peadeatric appointment (great so helpful ) and he wanted to refer for mri but couldn’t , appointment comes thro and it’s in fucking June !!!! And that’s a urgent referral , in the mean time it’s got worse and now he can’t run and often stumbles and falls doesn’t use the arm hardly at all , have taken him back and they’ve now booked a mri brain scan for next weekend , which happens to be on his birthday of all days 😭 he’s mental health is shit as is mine and he’s obviously worried , how long does a brain mri scan take please ? And has anyone ever experienced issues like this and it not be something life threatening, I also have a toddler so am still having to be normal and do normal stuff where as I just want to lay in bed and cry

Sending you love and strength for tomorrow. My daughter was diagnosed when she was 13 (she's 27 now!) They're day of her surgery was a long and exhausting day, I went into town and the hospital rang when she was in recovery. I was back at the hospital and got to see her as soon as she was settled in icu. Xxx

Ronald McDonald are amazing!! Plea for anyone if you are ever in Mac Donald’s and have some extra pennies they usually have a collection point inside.

will be thinking of you tomorrow OP. Xx

We desperately need one my my children's hospital. Only the parents on PICU get a room on our parents unit. And as a regional and supra regional centre we have kids from miles away.

@YourRubyMaker Many cities offer day rooms at hotels, so that might be an option for you tomorrow while your lovely little boy is in surgery. You can treat yourself to a nice room in which to rest for less than the price of an overnight. I found these in Liverpool - no idea if you're in Liverpool, but it's just an example because someone upthread mentioned Liverpool. The website is dayuse.com.

There's also hotelsbyday.com.

We're incredibly lucky at our children's hospital. They have several emergency rooms in the hospital for families like mine who arrive at all hours in an emergency (my son arrived in PICU at 4am) and they also have 2 nearby accommodations similar to Ronald McDonald's, one is actually for oncology families funded by a local childhood cancer charity which is where we eventually ended up long term.

Having a 'base' to call home for the 10 months he was in hospital meant so much to us. It should definitely be standard for all children's hospitals.

That’s awful! I hope you can get one soon but it should be a given to have provision. X

BoilingHotand50something · 02/03/2025 18:16

Glad you got access to a Ronald Macdonald room. I will definitely make a donation - thanks to the pp who prompted us to do so.

Thinking of you OP - hope the surgery goes as well as it possibly can, and you are able to rest in the meantime. Hope you both manage some sleep tonight.

DollyPartonsLeftnip · 02/03/2025 18:18

BananaBubbless · 02/03/2025 18:46

You can donate to Ronald McDonald when you’re ordering through the McDonald’s kiosk machine. I imagine alot if people skip past the option but even rounding up to the nearest pound is an option.

WorriedAboutArthur · 02/03/2025 18:48

I’ll be thinking of you all tomorrow. I hope you can find something to pass the time but I’m sure it’ll feel like a lifetime waiting for the updates 💐

Toddlerteaplease · 02/03/2025 19:53

@Kirbert2 there is a house for oncology kids. But not for anyone else. We've had parents sleeping on the ward for a year.
OP, good luck for tomorrow. Hope all goes well.

MelonUsk · 02/03/2025 20:03
