My 7 year old still can't bum wipe very well.

I'm open to any tips at this point, I've tried increasing his motor skills by wiping chocolate spread off of a plate, trunk twisting exercises. Reminders, "hand over hand" guiding.
These haven't worked.

This is what I saw a delightful video for on Facebook:

I reckon other small mirror would work with adhesive strips could work.

I highly recommend against wet wipes. Even the flushable ones aren’t actually that flushable and cause problems in sewers. I would teach him to fold two squares of paper, and wet it a tiny bit with the tap then wipe front to back. That way the dampness helps clean like a wet wipe without the worry of flushing. Maybe also think about getting a bidet to attach to the toilet.

I can't see many kids bothering with that. My 6 year old grandson would get to the sink, forget what he was supposed to be doing and start messing around with the toothpaste in the sink full of water!

Something about this turns my stomach.

Something about this turns my stomach.

Why?

Surely it's better to try and get them independent.

Sometimes it all just takes time?
Has his school mentioned any other issues with motor skills?

Idoloveanamechange · 03/01/2025 17:29

We had the same issue with our DS. He was eventually diagnosed with dyspraxia. It might be worthwhile having a look at some of the other signs of dyspraxia and see if you recognise anything else. DS was given tips by an occupational therapist but I can't remember what they were. Sorry; I know that's not much help 😏

DS is an adult now and probably won't remember either.

While you are not the first person to mention this, I don't think he has dyspraxia. He's under investigation for seizures so I think if there was any connection or suspicion of dyspraxia it would have been hilighted.

Okay I've made a bit of a break through but it's costing me a fortune, he's a lot better if he uses kitchen roll or Kleenex large tissues.

Does anyone know if there is large sized toilet paper, madebr made for kids with coordination issues?
