Baby norovirus, eyes rolling, low temp

Hi everyone,

Having a major panic, currently on phone to 111. DS is 8 months and had vomiting and diarrhoea at the weekend, I now have this and think it's norovirus, he has still been out of sorts today and not eating solids and barely feeding from me. Took him to the doctors this morning and they were very dismissive and said he's fine if he has wet nappies. He was in the bath this evening and suddenly had a little sort of absence and his eyes rolled back in his head. I got him out immediately got him out and he was then fine and asleep about twenty minutes later. His temperature is now 35.6. Should I take him to A and E?

Yes, I would take him to A&E. It sounds worrying and I think I would rather be surrounded by doctors and nurses then rely on my own judgement. I hope everything's okay and he gets the treatment he deserves.

Spacedoom · 16/12/2024 20:51

Take him in to A&E. Hope you both feel better soon.

OliviaFlaversham · 16/12/2024 20:51

Yes do. Hope you’re seen quickly and nothing to worry about.

InTheWindow · 16/12/2024 20:52

Yes, always worth getting a baby checked out if you are worried. I once took DD with an odd rash that turned out to be nothing. HCP said they’d rather see 100 babies that turn out to be fine than miss one who isn’t.

Jingleberryalltheway · 16/12/2024 20:53

Yes straight to A and E.

skelter83 · 16/12/2024 20:53

Check his temp again now, that is low. If it’s still low, pack a bag (plenty of snacks for you) and go to A&E immediately. If his temp is better I’d keep on hold to 111 in case they could get me an out of hours appt. Just what I’d do, but don’t mess about, always err on the side of caution.

NCISveryspecialagent · 16/12/2024 20:59

Yes take him to a & e, always best to get things checked when they are so tiny! Hope all is ok.

Emonade · 16/12/2024 21:09

Thank you. 111 have said I need to wait for a callback so hopefully that'll be soon cos she said she's flagged it cos of his age.

Yeah I would definitely pack a bag and head up there. I wouldn’t wait for a callback really, probably just go straight there.

OliviaFlaversham · 16/12/2024 21:15

I wouldn’t wait for a call back either. They ALWAYS say go to A&E in my experience with kids under 1!

JessicaPeach · 16/12/2024 21:16

I'd just go too because they'll probably send you there anyway. If they ring while you are waiting with an out of hours appt then you've wasted no time.

Tell them when you get there that you have norovirus too. Hopefully they'll put you somewhere else to wait away from others

ru53 · 16/12/2024 21:16

I recently waited over 6 hours for a callback from 111 for my DD - we went to A&E in the end as symptoms were worsening. They didn’t ring until the next day! Agree if temp is still low I really would go to A&E if I were you in case things take a turn for the worse.

summerlovingvibes · 16/12/2024 21:19

Check temp again, if really that low then take him straight in x

Guavafish1 · 16/12/2024 21:21

Go To A&e

cestlavielife · 16/12/2024 21:23

Straight to a and e he may have been looking ok this morning to gp but kids can change either way in an instance
The potential absence is an alarm bell

Christmassydecs · 16/12/2024 21:24

Please don’t wait for the call back. Head for A&E. That’s what 111 are likely to tell you anyway.

LynetteScavo · 16/12/2024 21:41

I don't take my DC to A&E for soooo much, believe me, but you really need to go. Really.

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/12/2024 21:44

I’d go to A&E. I’d be surprised if 111 were to tell you any different given what you’ve said.

Soberfutures · 16/12/2024 21:48

A and e would much prefer to see your child and all be fine than not. Please go asap. Call backs take a while even when triage as a priority. Check temp again so u have a comparison. Both ears if it's an ear one. Also check yours with it to confirm it's correct.

Msmoonpie · 16/12/2024 21:49

Don’t wait it may be hours. Low temp can be risk of sepsis.

Please take him now. Better for it to be a false alarm and be sent home than wish you’d taken him sooner.

AmberBeaker · 16/12/2024 21:51

My kids always run a low temp in the 35s when they have a viral fever but I've never seen their eyes roll like that. It can be hard to get an accurate temp read at home on a baby that small so I'd bring him in to the professionals for your peace of mind. Best of luck

WhoopsNow · 16/12/2024 21:55

I wouldn't wait for a call back. I'd go to A&E. My daughter was sick and I was told I'd get a call back within the hour. They called back 8 hours later. I'd say up all night keeping her upright and watching her breathing. I took her to A&E and the gave me steroids and antibiotics. I was angry with myself for not going straight. I still had to wait 6 hours in A&E.

Petrasings · 16/12/2024 22:20

Go straight there. Don’t wait for a call back.

BenditlikeBridget · 16/12/2024 22:23

Do not wait for the callback.
GO.

yehisaidit · 16/12/2024 22:41

Go straight to A&e.
Don't wait for a call. Go now.
