My 3 year old said he swallowed a kawaii squishy toy, he's ok in himself, he's talking, we've looked everywhere for it and we can't find it, I don't know if it'll pass in his stools or if they're dangerous like toxic, he's passing wind through his back passage I just don't know what to do, there was no health risks on the packaging, there was no information on it as it was out of one of those machines in the supermarket

Ring 111 for advice and if there are any problems getting through go straight to A and E.

Bluewhite64 · 09/08/2024 00:09

Call 111

Inlaw · 09/08/2024 00:11

How big are we talking?! How if he swallowed it then it’s going to be small enough to come out the other side 🤷‍♀️

Either way he’s 3. I would go to a and e.

We were on a children's ward once and there was a little girl who had swallowed a Penny.

She was perfectly well in herself but her mum had seen her put it in her mouth and took her to hospital where x rays revealed it had got stuck and was not moving. She was going to be operated on the next day.

I would phone for advice.

PoopedAndScooped · 09/08/2024 00:16

Go to A&E tonight !!!

All Squishies were found to emit toxic substances (including dimethylformamide, xylene, and methylene chloride). The chemicals are thought to cause reproductive problems, cancer, liver and nervous system damage, and irritation to the mucous membrane and eyes.

Mercury2702 · 09/08/2024 00:19

Please go to a&e, best case scenario they x ray and nothing there or small enough to pass normally but worst case scenario intestinal blockage which really isn’t something to mess with, not worth the risk

Yes. NHS 24 told me I had to take my late husband to hospital after he swallowed a hearing aid battery. (He had macular degeneration...thought it was his Warfarin tablet. Same size and it had a coloured sticker on the back.)

They x-rayed him to check the position of the tablet. Once they were satisfied that it wasn't lodged somewhere, I was allowed to take him back home and pass it naturally.

Go to a&e

kirstyhill97 · 09/08/2024 00:42

I've called 111 and they are giving me a call back, he's asleep now and I do hope he's going to be ok

I'd have gone to A&E (retired nurse) because you just never know with things like that. Apart from being toxic it could cause a blockage along the GI tract and require surgery. It's not going to break up and pass through.
How big is the squishie?

nocoolnamesleft · 09/08/2024 01:00

Yeah, I'd be worried about the possibility of getting stuck and causing a blockage. How big is it? Doubt it would show up reliably on an xray...

Modern ones say they are non toxic {but a choking hazard} {google}
The ones from 2017 are toxic.

Good luck!

Alot of these are made in China and i would not risk the internet telling me they wasnt toxic

Im sorry OP but WHY????????

Your child needs A&E TONIGHT

LightFull · 09/08/2024 01:41

He should be ok but I'd take him to A&E first thing in the morning

No point going before then because there'll only be skeletal staff

PoopedAndScooped · 09/08/2024 01:42

One of these will not break down and it is VERY possible to cause a blockage / Damage

If he needs major surgery then they will be rushing him through regardless of how many staff are working or not

You should not be telling people to ‘wait’

LightFull · 09/08/2024 01:58

It's hardly emergency surgery at this stage

LightFull · 09/08/2024 01:59

OP keep us updated

And how do you know

Advising someone to stay home until morning can be dangerous and life threatening !!!

SecretWitch · 09/08/2024 02:37

Please gather your baby up and get him to a&e. Best case, they exray and send you home.

kirstyhill97 · 09/08/2024 13:08

Ok so the update is I went in the ambulance with my son, he got woke by the paramedics but i care about my son so I done what was best, the doctor said it should pass through and he said it wasn't toxic unless it was injected with an injection which it wasn't, he said he should pass it through stools but if his tummy is distended, if he brings up blood through mouth or back passage then for all these 3 reasons I'd have to rush him back to hospital, he's eating fine, raisins normally helps him poo so I'm hoping that's the case otherwise it's hospital again, please don't judge I did get him checked out and I'm following doctors advice, I didn't reply as I was constantly checking on my baby, they didn't do an xray as they said they only do that in severe cases like swallowing a battery or anything sharp, we got discharged back home after 5 this morning, the doctor said its not stuck in his wind pipe as he's able to swallow and chew and he's breathing fine at the moment I've just got to keep a close eye on him, the squishy he swallowed wasn't that big cause if it was big then he wouldn't have been able to swallow it as his wind pipe is small at this age, he didn't choke on it but when I put my finger down his throat he choked but I only done this as a test to prove that the toy was small, I'm never letting my partner buy him those toys again as I don't wanna go through this experience again, it was a sensory toy, he's got sensory issues so that's why my partner bought it him, sorry for the long update but I thought I'd reply to you all, the minute I knew it was too long for 111 to call back I decided to call them back and they sent an ambulance, this situation could have been a whole lot worse and the positive of it all is that he's releasing wind through front and back ends so that's a good note, he's running round being his normal self, please no more hate as I done what all the comments told me to do, I requested for an xray but they said it wasn't needed even though I said it was needed

Hope you’re over your fright now, OP. Better safe than sorry.
