Chamomile aqueous cream (not lotion, very drying)

Avenue menthol worked great for us,

Cool baths with oats

As a distraction we drew around DD on a big roll of paper and she drew on all the spots, oddly counting them and focusing on how many made her stop itching so much?!

Has she had any anti histamines?

Zamazenta · 05/08/2024 20:23

@hannsmum

White vinegar dabbed on with a sponge
Leave to air dry then cover her with something silky (my dc sported my very fetching pink silk robe as it was the only thing that felt smooth and cool against his skin)

Telemichus · 05/08/2024 20:25

Antihistamine - you may find one works better than another chloramphenicol often helps sleep. Also a bit of calpol.
also accept it’s a few days of misery but it will get better.
watch out for infected spots & see GP if necessary.
A cold pack may help - wrap in a tea towel & no more than 5-10 minutes contact.

Make baths cool rather than warm.
she may find it helps to slap the skin - better than scratching.
fidget toys may help.

Saplingthing · 05/08/2024 20:25

It sounds like you’re doing everything you can, I was going to suggest piriton and virasoothe (lots slathered on thick). We got through a couple of tubes. She should be over the worst of it within a day or so. I had to sleep holding DS’s hands to stop him from itching all night 😔 hope she’s feeling better soon.

Hartleyhare1206 · 05/08/2024 20:59

use head and shoulders as a body wash in bath/shower then zinc and castor oil cream (like £1 for a big tub!) to moisturise and promote healing.
sounds batty but worked brilliantly for us when DD managed to get chicken pox when virasoothe and poxcillin was completely out of stock everywhere…..

justasking111 · 05/08/2024 21:02

My old GP recommended sunshine. I had it for the second time one summer. He told me to get out in the garden. It dried up the spots fast.

Where can I get chloramphenicol? She is not sleeping at all

Vira soothe 👍🏻

Nat6999 · 05/08/2024 22:45

Vira soothe, my ds had chickenpox very badly & this worked really well, also put bicarb in the bath, it helps dry up the spots & with the itching. I used to let ds play in the bath for as long as he wanted, put boats & ducks in with him, I took a book & sat on the toilet while he played.

Piriton is chlorphenamine which can help with itching/sleep.
I used to give dd a damp cloth to hold on the itchy spots
I think a pp meant calamine aqueous cream rather than chamomile

user8800 · 05/08/2024 23:01

You need phenergan
You can get it online
Also, try sudocrem on the spots

Cantgetausername87 · 05/08/2024 23:04

By the time you order and buy new stuff in the worst will be over I'm afraid. Just keep going with the treatments you have (viralsoothe is good after it's been in the fridge as extra cooling) but it will start to fade, you just gotta sit it out. Keep up with the antihistamines and keep an eye out for infection

hannsmum · 05/08/2024 23:44

Mumoftwo2022 · 05/08/2024 22:34

Vira soothe 👍🏻

Finished 2 tubs only cools for 10 mins and then starts again 😩

Eurax cream is the only thing that helped my DD when she was absolutely miserable and we had tried everything and it’s pretty cheap so worth a try. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

N0tfinished · 05/08/2024 23:55

I had to go to GP with my youngest- spots came on eyes & in his mouth . He got prescribed an anti viral liquid which helped quickly. Just keep it in mind x

DreamTheMoors · 06/08/2024 00:10

Try Benedryl capsules and look for Caladryl lotion. I’m pretty sure it’s on Amazon if you can’t find it anywhere else. It should be at your local pharmacy, though.
Caladryl is half calamine & half Benedryl and works well - or it always has for us.
Those two meds were what our doctor recommended and they really saved the day.
Hang in there, @hannsmum❤️

mrsfollowill · 06/08/2024 00:19

Eurax is the only thing that worked for me and DS - calamine lotion was the work of the devil made it much worse. It's bloody miserable get some Eurax in the morning. It's over the counter from any pharmacy.

Honestly calamine lotion was the worst Decision of all. She jumped right into the bath after using it . Will get the Eurax

GP friend told me the golden rules - worked a treat.
To keep temp and swelling down - paracetamol then two hours later ibuprofen them para again- repeat as necessary.
To keep itching at bay - daily antihistamine and then liberal coatings of Eurax. It's amazing stuff, lasts for hours. You used to be able to get lotion but I think only creams now. It's still the only thing we use for itchy bites. Brilliant.
For child - unlimited ice lollies whatever the season, wearing only pants and sunshine if possible.
And distraction!

Good luck.
