So basically this started about 2 weeks to be exact. My daughter of 8 years old Suddenly started to wee a lot and started to go to the toilet frequently I went out of hours the very next day where she was prescribed antibiotics for uti since then it has cleared up and she still has the urge to pee and keeps going every 20-30 mins I’m really upset and don’t know where else to take her after several trips to out of hours and gp she also got prescribed a thrush cream which has not helped I’m really scared I hope she grows out of this but atm I don’t understand what I can do can anyone relate to this and re assure me just a little 😢😢

Has she sent off a sample? She might have been prescribed the wrong antibiotics.

Rainbowsponge · 06/07/2024 20:28

Has she been tested for diabetes? (Type 1)

Jotkaur · 06/07/2024 20:38

Done everything doctor sent her urine off to the lab did a blood sugar test at the surgery yesterday which was normal I don't know what this could be?? Can it be psychological where she still thinks she needs to go?

she was prescribed antibiotics for uti since then it has cleared up and she still has the urge to pee and keeps going every 20-30 mins

I don't quite understand, do you mean since then it has not cleared up? Or did it clear up temporarily with the antibiotics and then start again?

Jotkaur · 06/07/2024 21:11

She's literally been going all day I don't know if she is paranoid now she's 8 xx

My eldest dd started doing this around 7 years old - sometimes going for a wee 3 or 4 times in half an hour . She was checked for UTI and diabetes many times (my husband is Tyoe 1) but nothing found. I noticed after a while a pattern of behaviour such as she panicked before bed or if going out or if people round and went more , horrendous if we went out too - but it rarely woke her in the night which GP said was interesting. She carried on with this for about 18 months I think it was a form of anxiety she's much better now thankfully but still worries sometimes about needing to go and she's 17!

Perhaps you dd is a bit worried following having an infection? However if she has a burning pain / hardly passing urine/ back ache/ temperature/ nausea take her straight back to GP. As my daughter had NO other symptoms.
My mum however had a funny wee infection once that showed negative on dipsticks but was higher up the tube or something.so stronger antibiotics were needed to shift it.
Hope she feels better soon x

Jotkaur · 06/07/2024 21:16

thank you bunnybear at one point I thought I was going insane the last thing I want is for her to be upset about this I can feel myself raging every time she goes but just biting my lip just hope it resolves xx

she wakes up early around 5 or 6 since she had the infection to go to the toilet and also wet herself twice when she had the infection

Is she constipated? I went through a phase a few years ago being convinced I had a UTI and demanding antibiotics, only for lab cultures to be negative. I couldn't work it out, why else would I be doing non stop?

Then I realised It was bowel related.

JulietSierra · 06/07/2024 21:21

My dd went through a phase like this when she was about 6. I remember standing in the queue for the London Eye with her and having to leave three times so she could go for a wee!
When it first happened, dd tested positive for a water infection. The urge to wee continued after the infection cleared up though. Subsequent urine tests were all clear. Some showed very low levels of blood cells which the gp said was most likely caused by vulval irritation and her scratching.
The constant weeing went on for quite a while-can’t remember exactly how long (she’s 17 now, it was a long time ago!) It didn’t stop her sleeping and she never woke for a wee. Sometimes she’d sit on the loo for half an hour or more as every time she’d try to get off she’d just jump back on saying there was still more wee to come!
I wonder if it was a habit/ nervous thing. Or she was always quite sensitive down below and was perhaps just misinterpreting general irritation as the urge to wee.
It did clear up though and she’s never had any problems since.

I once had this as an adult, for me it was a UTI followed by a bladder infection. The bladder infection was really hard to clear and resulted in feeling like I needed to urinate urgently and frequently. It was horrible but had no physical pain with it, so could easily
go undetected in a child.
In my experience UTI and similar infections don't always show up on the dip stick even when symptoms are very much present. Maybe a trip back to the docs?

Jotkaur · 06/07/2024 21:24

You can be going several times a day and still be constipated.

Show her this and ask her which one ia most like her poo.

i do think she has some sort of inflammation of the bladder because when I mean she has the urge to pee she does can going too many times be dangerous for the kidneys or out? And most of the time she just dribbles out a little bit of urine im trying really hard not to stop her keep going xx

Please don’t stop her going or sitting on the toilet if she needs to go. I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis aged 14 (I’m now 43) and when it flares up the only comfort I get is sitting on the toilet. It won’t cause any harm at all for her to do this as long as she needs to - get her to take a book!

Im not suggesting it is IC but it does sound like she’s been left with some inflammation or possibly that the original uti hasn’t been treated properly. I was put on long term daily antibiotics from 14 and I’ve had periods when I’ve come off them and gone back on them again. It sounds like she needs at least another course of antibiotics even if her urine has come back clear - the tests aren’t always reliable.

(I am under a urologist and have many other health issues).

Jotkaur · 06/07/2024 21:38

Yes pigeonqueen i think your right there she was prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics prior to this she had it for 3 days which didn't really help but she is still taking antibiotics

OP posts:
Pigeonqueen · 06/07/2024 21:40

Ok I think you need to get a second opinion. After 3 days if symptoms are still bad it needs a change of antibiotics.

Jotkaur · 06/07/2024 21:49

this is confusing cos when this first started she was prescribed the antibiotics trump ( sorry don't know all the name ) this one was resistant to the bacteria she had in her urine then she was put cefalexin sorry think I spelt that wrong too. She was on cefalexin for 3 days which didn't seem to work much but the doc at this point checked her urine and said it didn't show signs of infection but said he will prescribe it again for 7 days just incase
