Now really confused is it threadworm or two different things

Okay so a couple of weeks ago, despite whatever went past me that I didn't notice. Plus no notification from school if others are affected, not heard anything from parents I speak to. So now thinking is it from something else.
Anyway, i took washing out, and i noticed these thin white/clear thread type things all are not the same. It was too obvious that it could not be a mistake plus to my horror a few moved. Although i thought such things would die completely in the wash.

Anyway i then read up on it, and when i needed to use the loo next i checked and I saw what looked like a threadworm.
Anyway we took the medicine, although i was aware that you still have to worry about eggs. And the cleaning and process to get rid. That is without re picking it up out of home again.

Anyway two weeks passed i can't say I saw nothing at all, plus whatever was still on clothing or transferred.
I checked a few days back when my DC went to the toilet and saw more worms 🤦‍♀️ same for mine and I had stomach ache etc.
So as you can take a second dose we did.
Don't expect miracles as I read they can still take time to come through.

Plus it depends on trying to wash hoover things etc.

Now this evening I just went to go in my wardrobe to get my hair dryer out, and now because I am seeing things everywhere, I notice what I obviously didn't before or wouldn't normally look at.
Well these are items not worn recently or in a little while. How the hell are they on there and one in particular moving 🤦‍♀️
I don't know if I can upload video.

Hoping someone will come along who has experience of this to give some insight, or are there other things we don't know about. But googled a few and not those.

I am planning on showing video I took to pharmacist and to book with GP.

Isn't that just a bit of fluff?
I've never seen threadworms on clothes, especially on outer clothes (not underwear).

NightBirdy · 05/07/2024 23:23

And how long are these "worms"?
Threadworms are pretty tiny, 5-10mm

I know I thought and read the same we've got things on a lot of clothing etc.
My DC had them on his school clothes and one like in the pic it moved I watched long enough lol. I'm really confused as to why so many. Unless because it's been picked up late that so many and just finding dead ones.

In the wardrobe though, I was shocked and it's bothered me because I can't understand what is going on.

No in ways because of its dried up body lol it looks like what comes off my goose down jacket etc. But there were similar in my DC's school sweater after the wash and it moved.

This is why I was wondering if anyone knew of other parasites or other that this could be. Blown in or spread from outside with windows open a lot.
My DC got up the other morning there was at least one inside his pyjama bottoms.

Surely it's far more likely that you accidentally washed a tissue and there are fibres from that on your clothes, moving because you're moving the clothing/on the breeze on clothes on the washing line.

Threadworms aren't going to hang out in your wardrobe.

No lol they are not they move. I have a video of one that I was shocked to find yesterday eve. I'm not saying all the things on the clothes or bedding are threadworms , I've only related it to them because of what we had in our poo.

And that's what I'm trying to find out what are these other things if not worms.

I know it's quite small this is the thing that I have a video of moving last night. Top of it is stuck in fibres and the rest of it was wriggling around. Basically like a tail flapping.

Now really confused is it threadworm or two different things

My kids had thread worm last year. It was only in their poo. I never actually saw it at all! My 10yr old saw it in loo and I took him to gp, she saw it in his bottom. I didn’t look!🫣 Are your bottoms intensely itchy? This is no1 symptom! We all took the medication (even me hubby and other son who didn’t have it) and took it again 2 weeks later and again 2weeks after that! I washed all clothes ( each persons separately) I cleaned every surface in house and cleaned hoover too. Everyone showered every day ensuring bottoms cleaned with running water and body washed after bum. Nails all cut v short and anti nail bite on 2 youngests nails ( it’ can be spread by scratching bottom and then touching mouth/biting nails) It was exhausting, but after 6wks it was gone. I’ve never heard of the worms living on clothing though. Perhaps it is something else!🍀

Just read this on NHS inform

‘ threadworm eggs can survive for up to 2 weeks outside the body (on bedding, clothes, etc).

Didn’t know this 😬 ( never saw any in my house)

Yes thankyou read it all since a few weeks ago. That's the eggs not the worms. Usually they might come out and be seen in underwear etc or on clothing you've worn or picked them up on possibly. Like my DC had things on his clothes from school or playing out.
But not all things are leading to that conclusion.

The eggs mentioned is because they can then be re ingested and more worms are born in the gut.
They are what come out down below and lay eggs.

Not itching, but seen things in poo. Yes they say everyone in household etc should be treated. I know i think they are something else coming from outside.

I have seen plenty of times things that are like strands from goose down coat or duvet as I have these items myself.
White thin with jagged edges these things move lol I have seen it.

I have seen things blow in from outside and am wondering is it off of a tree or bush or plants 🤷🏻‍♀️

Did you repeat the treatment 2 weeks later!

gamerchick · 06/07/2024 13:37

Sorry I can see you did. You might have a heavy infestation if you're seeing them on clothes. I think I'd treat every 2 weeks until it exhausts the cycle and deep clean. Ironing gussets kills any eggs left.

greenandgreener · 06/07/2024 13:40

could it be a different type of parasite? doesn't sound like threadworms

Yes I'm not sure about how often you can repeat the medication after the first two doses two weeks apart, I would need to ask

But these things I don't think they are all from that, but something else.
I have seen these strands going through the air.
I am wondering if my DC is bringing them in from anywhere at school or other.

Just an update this is in my underwear after the night/didn't change underwear in the morning because i thought it would be ok, having had a shower last night.
Obviously not.

Now one I can see has jagged edges to it, exactly like what i am seeing on clothing. And I have seen things blowing around in the air caught one or two which are pretty much the same, but with those I'm thinking is it from the trees/bushes other.
My DC is coming out of school with them on his clothes.

Which is when I first discovered something was up, a few weeks ago.
I have told the school but they said no other reports 🤷🏻‍♀️ well they didn't have mine either, until a few weeks ago. And how long had I not noticed for!

So i can't get an appointment for today and have other things on tomorrow and Thursday, that being engineer coming to hopefully fix machine as it's gone in amongst all the crazy washing I've been doing.
It went on Sat night, so now everything is sat waiting to be washed 🤦‍♀️

So I am calling at 4.30pm today as you can speak to the duty doctor then. And see what to do as medication has been used now.
And don't want to keep buying unless necessary or it's something else 🤦‍♀️

Isn’t that a bit of fluff on your pants? Threadworms are absolutely tiny. Have you got a magnifying glass? Or my phone has an app I can zoom in on things.

HedgehogB · 09/07/2024 14:13

Threadworms are shorter and slightly fatter than anything you have shown, nor do they have jagged bits. The absence of any itching would indicate to me that the problem is, and wasn’t , threadworms . You are looking at fluff or something else , hope GP can help

longdistanceclaraclara · 09/07/2024 15:37

I'm pretty sure they're not threadworms.
